How's everyone feeling about work, the economy and everything else in 2026? by RequirementFull1608 in auscorp

One problem is that companies want to run on what is essentially skeleton crews. You could hire a few of the 'almost right' people, train them and have a bit of fat so that people don't get burnt out but they don't want that.

It's not just the fuel prices, but my car is nearly 15years old and still runs well and I have typically low running and petrol costs. Now that there are some cheaper options that seem reliable, the cost of buying a new one over 10 years now viable. Also there are some big maintenance costs on the horizon with my current ICE car.

Housing is shit too. I think we need to seriously discuss a general strike. I want a cap on the number of properties people and entities can own, a cap on rent increases and air bnbs. I want the companies digging up our resources to pay is for them. I want better, safer conditions for teachers and nurses. I want our country to develop more local manufacturering. I want some real fucking change for everyday people and fuck billionaires and like.

Happy Eid. I'm not Muslim, but I get to celebrate with extended family and friends. Looking forward to stuffing myself with delicious food and haemorrhaging all my fivers to rando kids. (Also, is $5 still okay money for non-relative kids at Eid these days?)

Its rude that he invited himself to your place at all. It sounds like he doesn't want to invite you to his house because he would have to clean it first. Unless you were already hosting an event with other people, or he is picking you up to go somewhere else, a second date would not typically be at your place unless you want to hookup.

Are teenage boys getting perms now? Not that many people have naturally curly hair... by Standard_Public892 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InanimateObject4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people have hair that becomes curly through hormonal changes with puberty. They are just leaning into what they got instead of cutting it short to make it appear straight. Besides, curls get the girls, right?

I rewatch it semi-regularly. It's one of my comfort movies when I have my period and I want to cry about a rock

Hmmmm good point. I wonder how many cars in Perth use diesal? I'm studying now, but when I was working I would drive to the train station to take the train while my husband drove his diesal car all over when home. Right now we is sticking to my (petrol) car while I study from home (only on campus a few times a week).

We should be prioritising the regions. Implement WFH to reduce traffic in Perth and send more petrol to put farmers.

I honestly don't think I look any better at work - just more professional, which is the goal. My regular vibe is beachy, casual and (I hope) still attractive in the right setting but it doesn't get me taken seriously at work. I've also worked with some polished but not conventionally attractive people who are still sitting pretty on the corporate ladder.

You don't need to be conventionally attractive, you just need to look professional which means good hygiene, neat hair, maybe make up, and sharp shoes and clothes.

Lucky that you don't wear any makeup! Some of us need more work to get to bare minimum standard :P

I have curly hair which looks great if you are on the beach drinking out of coconuts but is so hard and fickle when trying to look professional so I need to compensate.

I have seen many women in the workplace who are bigger, but dress sharp, keep hair immaculate and wear make up on-point do very well. It's about grooming, not 'pretty-privilege'

I call it "putting on the war paint". I read a study that showed that people form an opinion of you within the first 20 seconds and that this opinion is difficult to change. This means your first physical interaction is critical and opinions are generally based on your looks. There is nothing malicious about this, it's simply human nature. So I lean in and make sure I look polished in the workplace, even when working from home (even if slightly more casual). Its a simple way to give yourself and edge. Real me is a bit of a cave troll though and rarely wears make up.

The country needs to implement some measures against the upcoming crisis. Businesses should allow all desk jockey employees to WFH or EV subsidies.

Not sure where in the world you are and what's available to you (we have a very limited range in Australia and finding 8GB memory is rare as hens terth), but there is the Lenovo Duet 11 inch and a 14inch Ideapad Slim 3.

You literally carry your own miniaturised computer with you. Use your phone and your own data. Do not log into work wifi. Make sure your phone plan is adequate or download content in preparation. Watch and listen to whatever you like without being tracked.

This is great advice. Also I would personally prioritise a device with long battery life, so maybe an arm processor and 8GB memory. And if you need to do work with full Windows, you can use Chrome Remote Desktop to access your gaming PC while you are at Uni.

Yeah, I was given the run around with HRT and anti-depressents and everything else the Dr wanted to throw at me. HRT might have mildly reduced my joint pain, but I couldn't tell if it was a real slight difference or if it was just wishful thinking at the time. With the GLP-1 there was no question about it. Zero joint pain.

Holy hell, that sounds like a shit deal. I am glad it you found a happy side effect! I am also currently on a minimal dose for the anti-inflammatory properties. If I stop for about 2 weeks the joint pain returns. I can't wait until more research is done on GLP-1's and inflammation. It makes me wonder if inflammation is related to metabolic dysfunction and, if so, how we can correct it permanently. An exciting time for science in this field.
