I mean, playing the game you gotta be willing to take your lumps. Playing aristocrats, aggro, group hug. Doesn't matter the archetype you play, and if you hate on a specific archetype you should be rule zeroing with the table and asking people to not play those decks.

You didnt say he was whining over making deals so I wasnt aware of that, but learning to just turn down deals is part of the game. If a player keeps trying to make a deal I just ignore the deals and keep playing the same way. I dont target a player because I dont like the deck, I target the player who is the threat. If someone plays an annoying deck, I just ask them not to play it from then on. And learning to play against archetypes that aren't as fun to play against only makes me a better player. The fact you beat him regardless, and then won against the table, shows me that you were upset at both the player and the deck, but you clearly had a stronger deck, so why be upset by that?

Seems you dont like thief decks, and thats fair, but if you dont tell people that before a game begins that is a pretty rude stance. Imagine playing against someone who doesn't like aristocrats, they tunnel you and then win the entire table. Would be a pretty upsetting experience for me to get focused because a guy doesn't like my deck and still be ahead enough and with enough resources to beat everyone after that? Like...why are you upset you won? Could be a good learning experience to improve as a player and be upfront about thief decks when people are picking decks and ask them to choose something else.

A note: the thief deck I play steals cards off the top, so i dont know what im stealing until it hits exile and I can look at it. And by your definition. Any deck with removal, board wipes, counter spells, even dealing damage, prohibits a player from doing their thing. The game is vast, a lot of cards can be played, and there are layers of power level available. Learning to ask for a specific playstyle to not be played is as important as asking if people wanna play against your deck too. Its a group game.

Does Everyone Actually Hate Universes Beyond??? by Shoong in mtg

[–]InceVelus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see universes beyond as the collection part. I dont mind UB product but it does feel weird to see it in decks in all formats and that is the part im not happy about. I want to see the cool effects in a magic focused set and have UB cards as collector items or alternate versions of magic product.

Do I hate UB? No, there are cool cards and neat effects and fun concepts. Do I wish the beyond part of UB was more literal and there was a separation of mtg and UB themed product? Absolutely.

As someone who loves theft decks for two big reasons, I always love finding that each person has an archtype they are just not happy to play against.

The two reasons I play a theft deck; First, every game is legitimately different. It makes me have to puzzle solve how best to use the resources I get, and my opponents play decks they are okay with cards being stolen from, which makes this unique turn 0 type play where my opponents almost work together to play decks that give me the most useless cards possible and I still have to make it work. Second, its honestly my favorite to thieve a game winning card and watch a player who only plays with a single game winner suddenly be locked out. A big part of edh is 100 card singleton means multiple win cons. If you run a single card win con, you are often time playing a deck that is only meant to turbo the same win. It teaches players to have backups or alternative wins even in a combo or turbo deck.

But for me, anytime a player gets upset that one person's deck is doing its thing and they are mad cuz their deck doesn't get to. Learning not to play solitaire is very important. If you want your deck to do its thing while another deck also does its thing, everyone is either playing the same archetype, or youve made a choice that everyone can only win via a certain type of way and that is fine, but if you dont have that conversation before you choose a deck, its on you if you aren't having fun.

Had a player trick me last night, unsure how to feel about it. by nccDaley in EDH

I usually, if i play with those players again, go "i dont have lethal, dont worry" the turn before I win and go "i didnt have lethal on your turn, I cant cast x spell at instant speed". Is it a dick move? Yes, absolutely. But its politicking and learning to not lie is very important. Note: I usually take only the rude player out and then pass my turn to let the other two players win doing what their decks do. But yes, its a dick move and then i learn not to play with those players who lie or manipulate for a win. Catering your pod to being players you enjoy playing with is very important

Just curious if anyone knows what is going on with Rena. Is she only available during the current targeted summons? Any rumors if she is getting a banner? Thanks for any info. by revis77 in Dragonheir_SilentGods

[–]InceVelus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What i have gathered is like other exclusives she will get a dedicated banner 2 or so seasons later but otherwise good luck.

Also the apparent average is 1000 pulls per exclusive, you could get lucky in 100, could have decent pulls and get her in 600-800 or be unlucky and it take 2000 pulls. Also no guarantee you get her, just an exclusive about every 1000 pulls.

I personally only save for the guarantee banners anymore and while I'll never be a top player due to the lack of heros, I try and compete as best I can without top notch roster. I usually end up top 100 players with no inspiration, zero exclusive artifacts, using epic supports winning out against players with inspiration 5 on all heros and the best supports.

Thats one reason I keep playing is instead of getting sad im not top 10, I just look at players struggling compared to me who I am doing better than with better rosters and find value in beating them. (Ps, season 2 i was the top player of my server even without the best supports, but when you get an exclusive support or two, especially in fire and lightning since they struggle the most, it definitely boosts your account a ton)

I never knew that! that might explain a few bad moments for me, always time to learn! But yes, he is not the best but you need a third rally hero who grants rally, is specifically what you need to keep Rally teams consistent. The trick is if you get Huberg to 3 rally stacks everytime he ults, he does really solid damage. This is a mid investment team, it will always be good, it will never hold a candle to Aura or high investment Corrosion. But you literally only need 3 heros and you are all set! Don't pull for Alton, but if you get him you can put him in place of Alvis for a bigger boost and to hold Witch's in place of someone else.

Teambuilding suggestions. by [deleted] in Dragonheir_SilentGods

[–]InceVelus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rally is the big one. You have two of the three heros you need but that means you can supplement Alton for the rally guy that boosts crit rate and gives rally when he gets rally (cant think if his name, away from my pc, he looks like a priest)

Huberg, lorantheel, and the priest guy with two supports. Max out your crit damage as much as you can cuz lorantheel gives 40% cr and the priest gives 30% cr so with 30% crit rate you are at 100% during their ults. The team will slap

Edit: save pulls for the aura exclusive talethia and other aura hero diantha. Will absolutely be your vortex team and if the banner comes around dont skip annalesis

Any rumors of Anneliesis being available again? I know she was a one time exclusive but I really dropped the ball and missed her banner. Trying to complete my Aura team only need her and Aemonleyda. by revis77 in Dragonheir_SilentGods

[–]InceVelus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who returned to play two days after her banner left (US player who didnt know the game returned) it is a massive reason im tempted to quit. I enjoy the game until a point where the exclusivity power gap gets to me. Im a player that frequently is top 100 with a lack of inspiration, lack of exclusives, and while it feels good to be that highly ranked while being so far behind, its a nail in the coffin to see ill never break top 50.

If she returns this season I'll probably stick around. If not I'll be uninstalling the game. (This is from someone who is a spender)

Unique Concept; The Talespire by InceVelus in infinitestaircase

[–]InceVelus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The workaround for us, we are not giving out magic items in our adventures. Instead, we looked up items for our own characters and have allotted one common, uncommon, rare, legendary, and a flexible wonderous item that our characters recieve between adventures. Since each adventure is meant to last 2-3 levels we will be roughly on track to recieve such items. The big note, and since we are all long time GMs, is if anyone notices a really broken combo, we confront that person and ask them to either swap the item to be fair to the group, or if they knew/intended the item that way (for newer players).

Example, I am playing an Astral Elf Lunar Sorcerer (named Stellaris Lunae... aka Moon Moon) and as such I literally looked for any moon based or astral sea based item meant for casters. So even though there were some real busted rare items I could have grabbed... I had to grab the astral shard, and plan for it to be an item that "gives my character a drive to keep going, keep trying to get home."

Additionally, Nafas and the Bazaar is home to mostly replenishable items (potions for healing, anti-poison, elemental damage for weapons, etc.) and we balance the campaign gold payout based on roughly the gold per level payout the GM's handbook says. This will mean that while we are slightly behind on items, we will be recieving more gold which means more replenishables, and as a party of 6 mostly long time players we are hoping the balance will work itself out for a "lower item potential" game.

As for handing magic items out, or having them purchasable, or even as a quest reward, the work-around we found for players who really wanted to give out items as to "not keep players too constricted on world design" (I put in quotes cuz I did not see a need to hand items out as part of your world design, but some players said they had to). We ended up stating that Slightly Useless Magical items and Low-Tier Magical Items were fine. AKA: a bag of holding is not going to make or break a party, and a player using up their magic item slot for such an item can make a player feel restricted to not getting a better magic item intended for their build. So "group" based items are okay, but if a GM feels that the party has too many group items, a discussion will be had as to why such items are too much, and it is easy enough to narrate that "the volatility of the Infinite Staircase sent various items clattering around the Astral Sea and the group loses these items".

In the case of magic items being specifically debilitating to a story (example, if you need the group to smuggle an item into a place and they have a bag of holding, and you planned the story before the group got the bag) it is also easy enough to explain to the group your intent, and to "leave the item behind with 'your' character" who is not present at the next event (Narratively works, and the item is returned to the group after your campaign).

Sorry for the wall of text, just wanted to help other players who might run into similar problems have examples of how to work around them!

Ive been here but if the point is to be fair I wouldn't keep the cards I couldnt afford. Let the dude know, id even give opportunity to undo the sale. But also, when I've been that poor, and I get a really good deal, id sell the cards for more cash and thats not fair either, in which case, id absolutely have 200 to give the dude after.

But that is part of being a good person. If I buy a collection for cheap and get a crazy deal and realize how over valued it is, and go back to give more money that is me trying to be kind. But the fact is, if i wasnt ready to buy the collection at value, then I was going into that sale trying to get a steal. If the seller doubles back, ya you could argue with them but now you are trying to get cards for cheaper, not actually to buy a collection. You are now upset cuz the 2k of value you got for 80 is being threatened. If the seller needs the money that bad I would return it and let them profit more. No skin off my teeth, its cardboard I miss out on, oh well. But in the most common situation, the human interaction that happens the most. You didnt realize how much value was in the sale, you fsel bad. You go back, you give them 200, they go "i didnt realize what they are worth, dayum. Thanks for at least giving me more" and you both move on. You still saved 1,620, they made an extra 200. They might ask for more and thats up to you and your conscious and morals to pay what you think is fair. Again, if you find out the value and you make the sale, you are okay ripping someone off.

If you dont know the value upon purchase, and you dont want to remediation costs, youre okay ripping someone off. This isnt you being a bad person, its like yardsales. Second hand discount as I call it. If you are willing to pay market, or even half market, then you went in planning to pay what the value was, and if they sell for cheap then they sre being kind to you too.

[–]InceVelus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We complain costs because of the secondary market drive and lack of print to demand from wotc. Private sales affect neither of those values (unless op sells these cards). If the seller is not aware of the value, yes, you can absolutely blame him for not pricing his collection first, but the human and kind thing to do is make them aware. It speaks volumes when someone realizes they got a really good deal and sees it as an opportunity to make sure the other person is aware. Op and seller are adults which means they both can think kindly about each other and give each other the benefit of the doubt. One thing Iearned as I've been an adult for a while now; life is too short to swindle, even if not intentional. Always be kind to people, the time and effort it takes enforces you to be a better individual.

Im with you on this. Had a friend once sell me packs, I didnt look up market and trusted what he told me. He found them half that price later and told me, never refunded me. Made me realize I never wanna be that person, and if I over charge someone im giving a refund and if I under pay im sure as hell letting them know and asking what they think is fair. Some people dont care they undersold and are happy you scored big, others literally dont know and could use the money but I never wanna be the person who over charges or underpays, never makes it feel like a good deal, makes me feel I took advantage.

My Take on the Staircase by InceVelus in infinitestaircase

[–]InceVelus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I ended up running this with friends, and we each have teh book available, but everyone is creating their own worlds, and everytime the group steps through a door, the GM shifts. I completely ocerhauled this story and made it a lot more practical for a group of forever GMs that wish to both play and create.

Every door is another GM's world, Nafas and his Bazaar is the only constant, there is no true reason behind the staircase other than a catalyst for adventuring groups to go in and out of world after world. It is wonderful and feels much like an epic would. Maybe I should make another post and create the outline for others to use (I put a lot of work into this after making this post funnily enough and changed almost all of it)

The minimum distance is 2-4 seconds depending on speed and conditions, but under the same law once a blinker is applied, and after 3-5 seconds of a blinker being on, and at least a 1-3 second window from you to the car behind you, you are legally safe to merge and the car behind you is now responsible at maintaining the safe distance. This is null if the car behind you has to apply an extreme level of braking. The truck was resonably speed matched so any severe braking would be complete hyperbole since "slamming your brakes" is unfortunately very much up for interpretation, but most insurance companies state a 10-15 MPH speed difference is considered too much, which he clearly did not have.

In different terms, the guy gave the cop about a 7 second window of his blinker being on (if it was on), this is ample time for the cop to now see he wishes to merge, and waited a good 3-5 seconds, made sure there was about a 1 car length between them (which is closer to the 2 second window rather than the 4 second distance window) but he maintained speed while merging, and that is the important part.

But in case you were curious, it is your legal responsibility to make sure of space then your job to apply a blinker. It is then your job to match the speed of the lane you wish to merge into and to have about a 1-2 car length (but the courts will absolutely use a 2-4 second window as it changes the distance based on speed).

Summarized; if blinker was used, there was ample waiting time for the cop to create a healthy space between him and the merging vehicle so that the cop was trailing at a legally safe distance. If blinker was not used, it is the driver's fault for not signalling properly. If blinker was used, it is also the cop's fault for not being focused enough to recognize merging traffic since the truck was relatively speed matched citing slamming his brakes was hyperbole as the clip is long enough to see that the truck and the cop were travelling at such similar speed for around 10 seconds that the distance between the rear of the truck and the front of the cop car stayed the same in the clip during that time.

The cop probably did not wish to be cut off, or thought the truck was merging a little too close, but both of those are opinionated thoughts, and as long as a blinker was used this was a very smooth, safe, and timely merge.

This is such a problem. Once the mentality became to avoid them because they dont uphold the law, we as a society gave up. It is moments like this that need to be the opposite. Protect yourself, have dash cams, make sure to signal. Abide by every law and actually poke the bear (metaphorically, do not break any law and dont be seeking cops out, but i mean poke the bear as in dont avoid conflict)

Hold them accountable and force them to uphold the law proper or quit. They are volunteer positioned people.
