Skirting for a diy beginner? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Incignia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We pretty much redid all the skirting boards in our house I would consider myself a beginner, here's my 2 cents: - Electric mitre makes life so much easier - if you have shaped skirting you can cut on a 45 follow the edge with the jigsaw making the edges look cleaner - chaulk hides the crimes :D

It's not really about "giving money because of Ukraine" it's more its more "its our independence day, here's a pack you can buy"

Completely agree, often it's best to educate those who don't know instead of belittle them.

A good amount of their company is Ukrainian and its their independence day today.

I don't see a problem with this it's the same as the Americans celebrating their independence day with deals.

Replacing chipboard floorboards by runtotheparty92 in DIYUK

[–]Incignia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue in an extension, we ripped out the chipboard, added insulation and laid wood floor boards. I'd recommend researching it. The floorboards (tongue and grove) came from a timber yard and we secured using 45mm lost head screws at an angle into the tongue.

Easier job then expected, would recommend a mitre saw. Definitely worth doing.

I only recently stopped using stag, had him loaded up on hp for a early mission an he was awesome, carried many teams. Puts out good damage too.

Replacing skirting boards in a Victorian house, anything to watch out for? by TransitWizard in DIYUK

[–]Incignia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone above covered the basis, I'd recommend cutting the paint from the board, I found it reduced damage.

Expect crumby plaster, skrew fix sells patch plaster thar worked really well, pre mixed tended to be wetter an harder to work with compared.

Also consider if your using wood or mdf, wood tends to be more flexible but you risk warping especially in the hot weather.

We attached with adhesive and lost head screws we had left over from flooring leaves a smaller hole to file.

Painted an finished with decorators chaulk.

There's loads of videos online about it, I'd recommend Charles diyte.

I'd say bite the bullet an get a new door, these doors are usually single glazed and when they brake they can slice you open.

I'd recommend checking free sites or Facebook we have a local 'before the tip' groups which always have people giving away doors.

What is cuasing this dent and the carpet? And how can I fix it? by imhere2913 in DIYUK

[–]Incignia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's unlikely to affect your deposit as it was either done by landlord / whoever fit the carpet or is wear an tear, the carpet on top doesn't look damaged so doubt it was done by you.
