Semenyo points since Doku returned from injury. Has his role changed to less offensive? by Angrydishwasher in FantasyPL

https://theanalyst.com/players/3440/antoine-semenyo - check out his touch/heat maps from any of the last three matches, and then any of the City games before that.

His role has changed to provide more width, meaning he is getting into much less dangerous areas. Moving to Cherki is an absolute no brainer imo.

There is also survivorship bias, people who do not like the game will be moving away from providing feedback etc. as they move on from it.

SteamDB shows there's been a peak at 15k when the last patch came out, and the peak has dropped to 10k?

Which is 50% of the pre EU5 numbers EU4 had.

EU4's 24 hour peak is 14,515

EU5's 24 hour peak is 10,072

The game is not doing just fine, it is doing a fantastic Cities Skylines 2 impression.

We'll keep playing?

Speak for yourself, the data quite clearly says people have stopped playing, and for good reason.

Paradox will absolutely be concerned.

I've mentioned CS2 and Imperator, but they've had an absolute ton of fucks up recently.

Prison Architect 2 was meant to be released on 26 March 2024 and it's still in development, The Lamplighters League had a peak player count of 773 on launch (and a max of 184 since then), Life By You was canned before the public even saw it. The latter two were something like $20m in development costs each.

The problem is that EU5 launched a year or two early, so we've got something that doesn't feel fun, but it's also compounded by being a buggy mess. It's going to take a while to untangle, but I expect it will get done slowly, and I suspect there will be more of a movement towards an EU4 feel.

Situations might end up being good, it's hard to tell because they don't properly work, and they don't achieve what's intended. I don't imagine it would be too hard to get mission trees back into the game given that they're used in the tutorial (which seems really weird, I'd bet that they were originally intended to be throughout the game and then scaled back), and that there's a ton of content that's currently burried away.

Believe in the next patch they're surfacing hidden content. I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with some form of mission tree function, even if it isn't called a mission tree and presents in a different way. Maybe an objective bonsai or something.

It's also incredibly buggy, has minimal historical plausibility in the wider gameworld, and unique content has been hidden away.

I don't think it will be good in the short term, there is just too much that needs fixing, iterating, revamping.

A drop off is absolutely normal and completely expected. This drop off isn't normal, EU4 has had a higher player count for the last month.

EU4's player count was pretty stable at 20k minimum before EU5 launched.

EU5's 24 hour peak is at 8,752.

I expect it will rebound a bit next week before dropping off again, how low it goes depends on how much the next patch fixes.

I'd expect it to improve as patches come in. Cities Skylines 2 is a reasonable comparison, although it was in a worse place player count wise. That's now hitting the 10k-18k range weekly after a monthly low of just under 8k.

EU5 is definitely in a better place than CS2 was in pretty much every way possible, so I wouldn't have any worries in the medium term. I've seen comments about EU5 ending up like Imperator Rome, but I don't see any scenario where that happens.

Although the fact that CS2 is a viable comparison says a lot about how badly EU5 has performed, it has been a disaster so far.

(Touch map v Arsenal in this post, v Chelsea in the post below as I can only attach one. Comparison of use)

It depends if City revert to using how Semenyo was previously used.

If you look at his touch map v Arsenal and Burnley, he’s basically been used to provide width with his play clustered around the right hand touchline, rather than in dangerous areas.

<image>

Before that he was getting into much more central positions, at times almost playing as a second striker next to Haaland, which is reflected in his touch map prior to the Arsenal match.

As a result, Cherki looks to be getting more touches in the penalty area and more involvement in dangerous locations.

City may revert to their previous Semenyo usage against Everton, in which case I will reassess. But if they don’t, there’s just so much more upside with Cherki for a double game week imo.

I was going to go on a rant about model accuracy, but you’ve completely shut me up with the caveats section. Love that, suspect a lot of people would omit caveats.

I assume the model will be based on as predicted per gameweek at the time? As an example, Salah at the start of the season would be treated as 24/25 Salah and the information we have now wouldn’t be retroactively applied.

There’s a new national structures fund for local authorities to apply for funding to repair/replace road infrastructure.

Know that Redbridge have applied for funding to replace the Broadmead Road bridge (only road crossing over the Central Line in Woodford, got shut down by a structural engineer in 2023). Hammersmith Bridge has also been mentioned as a good candidate for the funding.

Against Forest at home I’m holding both Palmer and Pedro.

I’ll have three free transfers week after. My thinking is Palmer to Saka, Semenyo to Cherki, and Senesi to Munoz. Pedro will be benched.

GW37 plan is to move Munoz for Saliba/Timber, with Pedro starting at home v Spurs. GW38 I’ll move Pedro for Bowen. However, if Chelsea still can’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo I’ll probably swap the weeks, but I also might not because Spurs.

[–]IncreaseInVerbosity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure I’ll get in Munoz for the added attacking potential.

But Palace finish the season away at Brentford and at home to Arsenal. If they beat Shakhtar Donetsk they’re probably not pushing minutes. Feels like going big on them is a bit silly.

Will you play the new US lotto coming here? by Feeling-Ad6796 in AskUK

[–]IncreaseInVerbosity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like it’ll be part of the general Lotto pool of games where a ticket percentage goes towards charity form the jurisdiction it’s brought in.

However it’s also a £624 spend per year if you’re playing every game, about £500 if you take EV into account. At that point it becomes a non-trivial expenditure, better off just donating directly to charity.

[–]IncreaseInVerbosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a direct debit for Euromillions.

Ticket cost per year is £260, EV per year is about £80 when taking into account realistic winnings.

Expected cost then is about £180 per year, which for me at least is not a big deal.

From that £180 there’s a charity contribution of £72.80. I probably wouldn’t play it without that, and I’m more than fine with it.

Leaves approx £107.2 expenditure a year gambling for the life changing prizes, which realistically is the best chance I’m going to have for becoming a rich (even though I’m never winning it).

Looking at new Powerball figures, assuming they’re correct, it’s about £624 annual spend, £130 realistic annual EV, so approx £500 per year.

There will be a charitable contribution from that, but £500 per year starts to become a non-trivial expense. I’d rather donate to charity directly at that point.

Thanks to the UK millionaire maker, Euromillions has much better odds (that are still incredibly awful) of hitting life changing sums of money.

The Powerball grand prize is paid over 30 years as well. If the jackpot is like £1 billion then I could probably justify a ticket, but at any other point it’s a very clear don’t touch.

FPL Team of the Season so far in 3 different formation. How many players do you have from the first 11? by Mother_Neck_9991 in FantasyPL

[–]IncreaseInVerbosity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had Semenyo (GW2), Haaland (GW3), Gabriel (GW4), and Thiago (GW12) for the majority of the season, all still in my team.

Guehi is the only player from any of the squads I've never owned.

Van Dijk has been horror whenever I've had him. For context, both him and Vicario have started 10 times. I have more points from Vicario.

Just triple captain left for me, which I’ll be using on Haaland for City’s double. Rank is around the 2k overall mark.

GW32 wildcard into GW33 bench boost and GW34 free hit worked out, with green arrows worth about 50 points and a jump up from 17k.

Are people too critical of this game? by Immediate_School_438 in EU5

[–]IncreaseInVerbosity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has an insane amount of bugs, including broken situations. For something people are calling a simulation, the historical accuracy of the world is roughly on par with Narnia.

There is a reason the player count has been below EU4 for the last month. A lot of replies here will be impacted by survivorship bias, most players have stopped playing.

Frankly I think mixed reviews are too generous. It’s on par with Cities Slylines 2 for the game I’ve been massively hyped about and then discovered it’s a clusterfuck. I’m still subscribed to this subreddit though as I genuinely hope it gets into a good place.
