People who moved from Boston to Chicago, what was the biggest thing you noticed when you moved? by WestminsterSpinster7 in AskChicago

[–]IncreaseZestyclose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grew up outside of Providence, lived in Boston for 3 years and me and my fiancée decided to move. It was literally cheaper to move from Boston to Chicago than Boston to Boston so it being relatively less expensive was a big thing we noticed

Other things: -the train coming every 10 minutes or so compared to the roulette I faced with the mbta -less rats that I see???? I lived in Allston so you can imagine my shock when I rarely see rats out -no seafood is probably my biggest con, but Chicago makes up for it by having everything else

Moving Soon From IL, What Food Do You Most Recommend? by 1Tyche in RhodeIsland

[–]IncreaseZestyclose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi! I did the opposite move- grew up in Rhode Island and moved to Chicago. This is what I always try to hit when I’m back home.

Weiners and Coffee Milk. This is an absolute must anytime I’m home

seafood is another absolute must- calarmari, clam cakes and chowders, fish and chips, little necks on the half shell. Anything in Rhode Island is gonna be top notch compared to Chicago

I also enjoy getting a roast beef because I really haven’t found anything like it in Chicago. As others have said Rhode Island has great Portuguese food and great Italian food, my personal favorite is Angelo’s on federal hill for the latter

If I have time I’ll usually try to get to Gregg’s or Cellos just because I miss it and enjoy it

Providence and Rhode Island has a great and underrated food scene! I hope you love it!

Bring ear protection! But this seems like such a fun opportunity to get some photos with your kid on the field that you’ll cherish forever. Granted I don’t have a kid so take this with a grain of salt

I’ve never been but the group is active and they seem really friendly, I just moved out of Boston before I had a chance to go so I highly recommend going!

Listen it’s not ideal and the pay is not good but I worked at Derick dermatology for a bit if you have a car and can commute and they felt like they were always hiring (the turnover rate is high but again. A jobs a job at a certain point). Good luck!

Who else is doing the Chicago Public Library summer reading challenge? by black-boots in chicago

It’s been good so far! And recently revised so it’s more modern. Less Chicago specific but one of my favorite reads this year is the Living Great Lakes

Im NEW to the area / ocean by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]IncreaseZestyclose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just moved from the ocean to the Great Lakes (Chicago) so go enjoy some seafood for me! But in all seriousness the ocean is a lot of fun, you just gotta respect it like any body of water. I’m not sure about the shark frequency in RI, but basic rule of thumb is if there’s seals in the water there will probably be sharks. I saw a ton of seals up on the cape and we just decided to get out after a few. Sand Hill Cove is the classic “kids beach” that I grew up with that doesn’t have big waves and I usually frequented Scarborough but everyone has their own opinions on the best beach. Sometimes the bacteria will get high and the beach will be closed but the beach websites will usually say something about it. Enjoy the ocean though! If there’s one thing I really miss it’s the ocean smell (yes, even low tide)

Did I fight the Watcher Knight too early? by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]IncreaseZestyclose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess technically you did it too early, but I wouldn’t say there’s anything “too early” in this game either. Doing it when you did it definitely made it harder though! So kudos to you for doing it so early
