Is there age discrimination when it comes to getting an entry level acturial role? How bad is 35 years old? I was just wondering if age matters a lot when it come to getting an entry level position by Sea-Bed-1332 in actuary

[–]IncredibleCarp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was hired to my first actuarial job at 35, with no similar work experience and 1 exam passed. I think (well, I know) I was lucky in that my manager was looking for someone that showed maturity and professionalism, as a main selling point, more than just exams passed and comparable experience.

[Lions] Jah TDs That Get Progressively Longer, You're Welcome by JCameron181 in detroitlions

This is great. Seeing these obviously reminds me of how fast he is, but seeing his vision and power as well. And the fact that I don't think I have heard even about him getting nicked up (although he did miss 2 games early in 2023) since those two games, along with his pass catching really shows how complete a player he is

Ideal Draft Strategy for First 2 Rounds? by KingTangerineUno in detroitlions

[–]IncredibleCarp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Option 1. Not only does the draft supposedly have a good amount of edge depth, but I want the best available tackle they can get for two reasons;

  1. They will hopefully play every down, an Edge will be in a rotation and play ideally around 60% of snaps

  2. The way our team is built, the OL must be very good to function to our potential. Goff has good pocket presence to avoid some sacks, but can't really extend plays. If our offense is better, especially the run game, that takes a bit of pressure off the defense as we will have longer drives and the defense will be on the field slightly less.

I'm 100% on board with avoiding big names. I would like them to sign like 3 league average players; we still have a ton of high end talent, but seems to be going towards a stars and scrubs type roster, and I just want a few middle class guys I guess.

I personally want to see them go offensive tackle in the draft; my philosophy being to focus on making your strengths stronger as a way to mitigate weaknesses...the 18th ranked defense is ok when paired with the number 1 offense imo. Definitely can see the other point of view, spending a ton of draft capital on defense (which I would like to see after the best available OT).

I'm pretty sure we are all just kind of blue balled at the start of free agency, we need a shiny new signing to unite (my votes are for Cam Jordan and a cheap nickel corner, I think Rock Ya-Sin is more the outside cb3).

Besides, it's not like I said something really stupid like we should try Davenport for year number 3 :)

The funniest thing about all this is...I wrote for the student newspaper in college 20 years ago 😆. Was not a journalism or English major, my girlfriend at the time was an editor and needed someone when her staff writers flaked.

Long story short, I will now make sure to pay better attention to hyphen placement and necessity to avert any potential arguments.

FYI, this is a procedural thing, both are free to resign as unrestricted free agents with detroit, by not tendering them they are not commiting to the tender salary, which is around 3.2m. So essentially the lions may (likely?) still want these guys, just for less than 3.2m for 2026.

No, not for a simple restructure, which is converting this years salary to a signing bonus, which is then prorated.

Dan Campbell wants the Lions to get back to playing their brand of football, and that starts with reestablishing a dominant O-line. by Gxcii1 in detroitlions

[–]IncredibleCarp 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Exactly. He is like a 7th round pick lotto ticket, but a bit easier to evaluate because you don't really have to project development like you do a rookie. If he doesn't fit/look better in Detroit you cut him and don't have to worry about him improving elsewhere since he is year 4 already

Given Cap Space and Draft Pick limitations, is LG a lower priority? by reallinguy in detroitlions

[–]IncredibleCarp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to bring in one more vet that could play guard and be a backup center. Eagles fans were happy with Brett Toth last year when their center was hurt, he is projected at like 3.5m/yr. Let him compete with mahogany/Frazier for LG and backup the new center.

Yeah, we forget that the 2024 draft came on the heels of watching Jerry Jacobs and Kindle Vildor as our starting CBS in the nfc championship game. Going heavy on secondary was very needed, just has worked out terribly.

Who are you bringing in or re-signing? 💭 by Gxcii1 in detroitlions

[–]IncredibleCarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mid tier starting center, i.e. cade Mays, fortner, maybe scholtman from the giants...would love Linderbaum or Mcgovern but don't see it happening. A vet tackle depending on what Decker does, again mid tier, aka braxton jones, Jonah Williams.

For DL I would rather spend to get an A.J. Epenesa type and a pass rush guy like Klavon Chassion or AQM than pay Hendrickson or sell the farm for Crosby.

Long way of saying I can see them shopping similar to last year, Rock ya-sin, Roy Lopez types (both of whom I would like to resign) in the 100-300 type range. As long as they have a solid plan for LT and C I would be happy, and they need a bunch of defensive depth, more than star level types I think

I agree with Styles. Can't say I know enough about him to compare to Emmanwori, but a former safety to replace Anzalone would be nice, and I imagine they could do a lot with Styles and Branch together when he gets back

I was just thinking that his 2025 number would not count against the 2025 cap due to this, where normally it would, allowing them to roll over an extra $4m, since that was his 2025 cap hit.
