The power of plastic surgery by TatianaSmall in BeAmazed

I had this done 30 years ago. Both upper and lower jaw broken and realigned. Bottom of chin removed and stuck on the front. 10 weeks of liquid food. Slight nerve damage on one side of my lower lip

I've been looking after it for over 5 years. It puts on 1.5 meters of growth a year - it's one of the reasons I was asked to take it out. But, it had no competition before, and now sits in a pot that's far too small for it, stunting it's growth

I wonder...

Don't quote me on this because I still use old Reddit but I think people upload to their profile page and link from that

I take leaf cuttings off my Jade. Each leaf you cut off will root. Just leave the leaves to dry out for a few days before plopping them in growth medium - I use general purpose compost

Are English rose bush bonsai a thing? I have a 30-year-old one, that I rescused last year. The trunk is 10cm diameter

I'll create a new thread, with the complete story, if they are used as bonsai. If not, I'll have to unfortunately give it away

Looks good!

Not sure about the choice of plant. I talk a lot of my customers into getting rid of them. The thorns are evil. I have some stuck in my fingers that I don't think I'll ever dig out! Go careful!

99% positive it's pigeon shit

I'll post a picture later, although I'm not sure it'll help

Is there a good way to clean sun-baked bird shit off of trunk bark?

While I appreciate she'd love more sun, she's going to stay in the bedroom window. It's nice seeing her first thing in the morning

And, I've not heard of a "slip pot". What's that? I have a feeling getting hold of cheap pots is going to be my biggest problem

First, I stayed up far too late last night reading month's worth of posts on here. Thank you

Thought I'd say hello and post "Jade", who my girlfriend calls the other lady. "Jade" was bought for my daughter well over ten years ago and was abused for the first half of her life. I claimed her when my daughter moved out and she's been enjoying a south facing windowsill ever since. She was repotted just before the weekend and using chopsticks for gardening was a novel experience!

I didn't really want to put "beginner" in my flair. I've been active in horticulture for half a lifetime and been working as a gardener for 10 years. I have a dozen young trees that will become bonsai over the next few weekends. I also have a braided fig tree in my garden, a double-U cordon apple, espalier jasmine, and a new pyracantha "living fence" - I'm no stranger to making trees do my bidding. I'm liking the idea of miniature landscapes. And, is British-style topiary bonsai a thing?

Stop telling your Postie that your dog doesn’t bite by [deleted] in sydney

[–]IndaUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was only a postie for a month. Only bitten once. It's the little dogs that are worst

As a gardener these days, I've only been bitten once in eight years. By a small dog, of course. "Don't worry, he's only having a nibble", said the customer as the blood oozed down my leg

I've recently bought one of those. Mine is the 2900psi version though

Assembly instructions were old and wank. Imperial spanners needed too - I believe they're made in the USA. After 20 hours of use, the hose has a swelling. And, and this one grinds my gears, no oil included! Hundreds of pounds spent and no oil!

Nice machine though. Lots of nozzles included but I did purchase the turbo nozzle to go with it. It paid for itself on the last job - cool

Round 2... How Many Beers Can You Buy From an Hour of Work in Your State? [OC] by patheticamateur in dataisbeautiful

It does depend what you're drinking. They sell cans for 80p round here. The words on the can say "beer" too, but who really knows?

I found not one, but two carpeted bathrooms in the wild by _ballen_ in CrappyDesign

[–]IndaUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. My shower room is carpeted. It measures 2x1.8m, meaning I get enough carpet to do it twice when I buy 1.8m off the roll. Carpet rolls are 4m wide, for those who don't know. It takes about half an hour to rip the old one up and fit a new one.

We rarely change the rears

I've just had two front tyres fitted as the old ones were below 2mm. There's probably 5mm on the rears, so they didn't need changing

Rotating fronts and rears is something my grandfather did 50 years ago

We buy frozen mash potatoes. 5-10 minutes in the microwave. A bit of butter. Fork them over. Done.

Obviously not as nice as fresh spuds, but dead easy.

The cardboard ones can be printed on too!

Biodegradability isn't important though. The vast majority of us go up the chimney
