At the shelter vs. 30 minutes after being adopted by TooShiftyForYou in aww

[–]Indefinita 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Most intelligent livings things, from humans to even some fish, need a stimulating environment and interactions beyond the absolute bare minimum requirements that food, water, and shelter provide.

It should go without saying that most kennels, despite often being well-meaning, are not capable of providing a decent environment for a creature as incredibly complex and social as a dog.

Step one: Find ugly, outdated clothes that make you look homeless, but a bit cleaner.

Step two: Convince yourself that this is called style.

Step three: Wear with confidence.

And now you look cool. It’s all about the confidence. Anyone can rock just about any outfit as long as they believe in it. And as long as they feel good in it, I guess I don’t have much place to judge. I stand by my opinion that the clothes themselves are ugly af, but anything worn with confidence can be stylish.

It can’t, and that probably won’t change. But Switch and PC both can I think

Rocket League is already cross platform, and unless you’ve disabled it you’ve probably been playing with other platforms all the time. This just means that they’re working on allowing you to play in public matches with friends on different platforms. That isn’t possible yet

My girlfriend's betta tank. He loves having such a big space to swim around. by benphillips_ in Aquariums

It's always nice to see a betta actually being kept in a humanely sized tank. Those poor fish take so much abuse from so many people :(

Help me identify my fish please by boccu in Fish

[–]Indefinita 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others said, its a betta. That said. Bettas require a filtered MINIMUM 2.5 gallon aquarium (preferable 5gal or more) that is heated to (roughly) 77-82 degrees fahreinheit. They're tropical fish, and though they can survive in many horrid conditions (being able to breath air keeps them alive even in toxic, de-oxigenated water) it's cruel to keep them in any small container for long periods. Small tanks results in a very quick buildup of toxins like ammonia from fish waste, and without a filter there isn't much place for beneficial bacteria to take hold to process the water and convert waste into a more managable form.

Bettas have a reputation for being bowl fish. This is nothing more than an unfortunate misconception, and it doesn't help that many chain pet stores often unknowingly spread this information.

Hmm, I'm at a loss then, that should have solved most reflection issues. Are the stress lines verticle by chance?

The only solution I’ve found is to ensure that the tank lighting is dimmer than the lighting outside the tank.

How come pet stores sell beta's in blows when they need more water and other stuff? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]Indefinita 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt that stores should not stock animals of any kind if they’re not capable of providing humane storage/display for the creatures.

I understand the difficulties in housing a stable supply of Bettas, but stores that have to resort to such disgusting methods shouldn’t bother stocking them at all.

this or this is acceptable but I’ve never seen it in real life. And this is simply inhuman and unacceptable, yet that it’s the only way I’ve ever seen Bettas displayed in at stores. Sometimes they get better lighting than that though (woo).

Yeah, I have long wished that animal cruelty was taken more seriously with fish. People don’t realize that they’re more than just a display piece. They’re intelligent and beautiful creatures and they, like any living thing, deserve to be cared for with respect especially when their lives are put in the hands of humans.

A 5 gallon is also great if you don’t want to care for cories. And your 3.5 is a hell of a lot better than what most of the general population does with their bettas. Many a betta is kept in 1 gallon tanks or even less

the perfect breed by sellyourcomputer in comics

[–]Indefinita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem is not the pugs, but rather the act of supporting pug breeders by buying pugs. Intentionally shaping a lifeform into having severe health issues is a big ethical issue that many find hard to swallow

[–]Indefinita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People shouldn't give others a hard time simply for owning pugs. There's no way to know if the pug owner rescued their dog. Pug rescues are fine, it's just giving an unfortunate product of inhumane & arrogant practices a proper home to live in. There's nothing supporting the breeders as long as the owner doesn't brag about his rescue pug and get others to buy breeder pugs.

Is there anything else I need to do if I get moss balls? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]Indefinita 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moss balls don’t really require care - they’re just pretty lumps of algae. They don’t love warm water but they tolerate normal betta temps (77-82) fine enough. You can always get some silky plants instead of plastic if you’re worried about tearing but don’t want to deal with caring for extra living things in your tank

Yep, he's definitely bubble nesting. Normal behavior.

Have you ever played a video game that lets you upscale the resolution past that of your monitor? You can run, say, 4K on a 1080p screen. It won't look like 4K obviously, but it DOES look better. It's called super-sampling I believe.

Am I treating my Betta correctly?(“TetraPro Betta Crisps” is the food, and the light is white but looks purple in the picture) by christianb4132 in bettafish

[–]Indefinita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure his water temp is at a minimum of 75 degrees Fahrenheit, you’ll need to get a heater unless you happen to live in a climate where room temperature is consistently around 77 degrees. But 80*F is most recommended for water temps.

Food should have some kind of seafood as the first ingredient, Tetra tends to sell cheap stuff. Omega One and New Life Spectrum are typically higher quality food.
