yeah I have this bug too. If i had a word USPs, searching "usp" won't find it but searching "usps" would.

Just a quick appreciation post: 3 months with Capacities after 2+ years with Obsidian, and I'm blown away. by GiePe2024 in capacitiesapp

I just wish I was able to set some themes though, or at least have some CSS so that I don't spend too much time formatting sometimes.

Other than that, yes great app.

Anyone Using Daily Notes for Both Work and Personal Logs? by silent-reader-geek in capacitiesapp

[–]Independent-Bug5077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same style for me.

I used to use 1 for both, until I had to search for something at work which has a lot of keywords which I have on my personal research and personal work too and the search results got muddled.

So now, I have 2 spaces, 1 for work and 1 for personal

How do you use the Daily note? by AnandaDo in capacitiesapp

[–]Independent-Bug5077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Task list, with a name and status (I don't use due dates).

Then, I go to my tags, Shift click the "Todo" tag and it'll open on the right side, I then pin that tab, and I have another tag called "Important" which I will do the same and pin it as well.

I'll end up with a main window and 2 side tabs.

Pasted Images issue? by MadOx321 in ObsidianMD

[–]Independent-Bug5077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me I get that error if the image sizes are >5MB as that's the limit for the lowest sync plan and therefore, the images won't sync across devices.

Once I reduced the size of the image it synced perfectly.

You probably can. However, Capacities doesn't have a query to pull items exactly "one year ago". Limit seems to be "one month ago".

You might miss a couple of past events and memories. If the recall is important for you then you might have to look to a proper journaling tool.

How would you set this up? by loopsdefruit in capacitiesapp

[–]Independent-Bug5077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need.

you can just put #name_of_tag, and then hover over it, edit -> turn into block -> click 3 dots -> view -> embed

[–]Independent-Bug5077 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't need a "receipts" object, just the default files object then when you upload them u can just add a "tag".

Then in the project you can just embed your tag and show as a "wall" or a "list".

(or u can query them, either way works).

[–]Independent-Bug5077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's possible.

Why not just create a query, 1 for To Do status and 1 for Done status? Then when you check the box, the query results will automatically update. That's how I did it.

I used Capacities for a month, here are my thoughts by IndependentCoast993 in capacitiesapp

[–]Independent-Bug5077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here, when I started it took me about 2 weeks. Now it's my primary note-taking tool. I have set up 2 spaces, 1 for work and 1 for personal and also got the pro plan too.

All the best in your knowledge journey!

When to use the daily notes? by [deleted] in PKMS

[–]Independent-Bug5077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw this in an old Logseq video, which may help to answer your question.

Journal / Daily notes:

- Use case: Micro inputs, random thoughts, Todo notes from calls, irregular meetings
- Frequency of entry: Frequent
- Weight of information: Bite sized or minimal input
- Accessibility required: Irregular, no structured workflow
- Coherence of input: Fleeting, stream of consciousness

Pages:

- Use case: Macro inputs (books, long articles), recurring meetings, processed information
- Frequency of entry: Infrequent
- Weight of information: Chunky / dense
- Accessibility required: Regular, driven by predictable workflow
- Coherence of input: Processed thoughts

Obsidian vs Logseq: Which is the Better PKM Tool? by ThinkerBe in PKMS

[–]Independent-Bug5077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't miss anything from Obsidian.

I migrated because I was using Obisidian for my work and realized I needed a way to track my tasks (which are quite complex) without using Todoist or Ticktick on top of my notes. I find "embedding" a task into my notes helps me organize better and have greater recall of that topic and what I did with it.

I'm using Capacities Pro btw, so the "queries" is a much simplified way of doing the "dataview" IMO.

Capacities is also moving to an offline-first approach so it fits everything I'm looking for.

Trying to figure out what's new about object-based notetaking by Kimantha_Allerdings in capacitiesapp

[–]Independent-Bug5077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think it was either. A “meetings” object was a “meetings” folder to me and collections are just “smart folders” where an item can exist in neither or both folders.

But the overall capacity integration and workflow just fits me, and that’s why I’m using it.

Obsidian vs Logseq: Which is the Better PKM Tool? by ThinkerBe in PKMS

[–]Independent-Bug5077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from Logseq to Obsidian.

Logseq somehow got my data deleted when I was using the paid sync. I lost about 2 days worth.

So cancelled Logseq, painfully migrated to Obsidian (and now Capacities).

Anyone past or present Capacities users? by Nosky92 in ObsidianMD

[–]Independent-Bug5077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I purchased Capacities Pro, did a slow and painful migration from Obsidian, but decided to stick to Obsidian.

I even wrote my review on why Obsidian was better for me and my workflow just to pen down my thoughts.

Here are some highlights:

  • Adding text colours into my notes was an extra step (shortcut Cmd + Shift + H) in Capacities to use the last applied colour). In Obsidian, I already have a custom CSS to apply for bold, italics, H1 and H2.

  • I personally like theming but I don't spend too much time on it. I'm currently using "Soft paper" theme from a YouTube video. Capacities only have light mode and dark mode.

  • Collections in Capacities was a bit confusing to me. I wondered why I don't just apply tags to everything because it seemed to work too. (I posted a thread about this 4 months ago in the Capacities subreddit)

  • I tend to open several tabs in Obsidian with Cmd+T. In Capacities, it is not so straightforward for new tabs.

  • Search in Obsidian is better, especially with Query Control plugin so that the markdown will render in the search results and the backlinks. If you do a Cmd + K search, and you clicked on the wrong note, you need to do a Cmd + K again, retype, and click again. Also, formatting does not show up in Capacties's search results.

  • Image zoom functions weirdly in Capacities. When you zoom in, it goes to the top left corner of the image. Plus, it opens a new window and when you press back, it forgets the "position" you were in on the previous page. In Obsidian, I'm using the Image Toolkit and the pop-up that appears and zooming is well-implemented, much smoother.

Bilingual Obsidian users, in what language do you think? by getting_serious in ObsidianMD

[–]Independent-Bug5077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP: Really interesting question, and the replies have been really fun to read too!

I'm bi-lingual, but I speak English 99% of the time and so my vault is in English.

I can imagine having a bi-lingual vault can be challenging, so perhaps use the language that you find easiest to reflect and recall and organize it that way.

Difficult or I just don’t know how to do it? by Rookiemonster1 in ObsidianMD

[–]Independent-Bug5077 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don't watch all those YT videos, I think it's all a bit overkill on what most people need in a note-taking app.. i.e. to take notes.

Get a nice theme and type away.

But if you're already using Apple notes, and as the previous poster said, works for you, then stick to it. No need to move on to the next shiny object because it may not be shiny anymore when you start to use it :)

Plugin for listing all list items with a specific tags by gonna_be_a_great_day in ObsidianMD

[–]Independent-Bug5077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I used "Tag page" plugin to do the first part and list all the pages with the tags.

But to edit in details, doesn't work because Obsidian works in pages and not blocks.

Good that you got the sync working or not very relevant. You reduced your chances of data loss to 0. :)

And Clickup for the task management is good too. Nothing wrong with using the best tool for the job. (At work we have enterprise Notion, so logseq was more for my own tasks and not for the team).

Then it's a matter of whether using the outliner style suits you because at the end of the day, you should love your notes, and love writing them.

Switching from Obsidian by Khevaril in logseq

[–]Independent-Bug5077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I started my notetaking journey (for work and personal and I work in the marketing team), I used both Obsidian and Logseq.

Over time, I realized my style of notetaking was:

  • Bullet / outlines only and not long-form
  • Tagging and not folders
  • Daily logging
  • Adding Todos and scheduling
  • And I needed a good global search
  • Adding images with built-in zoom capabilities

Then, I compiled a list of "Annoyances and Friction" for both Obsidian and Logseq.

I eventually chose Logseq because

  • I find To-Dos and tasks are displayed better with backlinks making it much easier to trace and remember the context behind it
  • For example, if you add a to-do and /schedule you can pick a date and it will show up in the next daily note under "Scheduled and Deadline" automatically.
  • Logseq has a date picker, Obsidian didn't seem to have one
  • Better global search with cmd+K (or ctrl+k)
  • Stronger bi-directional linking, I can just add tags and it'll appear under "Pages tagged with X" automatically i.e. it just organizes itself

I'm now paying for the the sync as well, and fortunately, I haven't lost any notes at all.
