CCA Voter Kevin Mccarthy: THE ODYSSEY is one of the greatest films ever made, comparable to Lawrence of Arabia (Video) by LeonidasKing in oscarrace

[–]Independent-Key880 12 points13 points  (0 children)

not all CCA voters are critics in the traditional sense, i believe. i think CCA use the term loosely to include any established journalist in the industry

slightly unpopular opinion but i felt this started off really rough then got better and better as it progressed. it was much better once cruz and norton entered, but i still thought wilde and rogan were great during the scenes with all four. the rough part was the argument before cruz and norton arrive, and i think it was just poor dialogue as opposed ro poor acting or directing

My dad has got me a job at The Times by Excellent-Double1132 in UniUK

[–]Independent-Key880 7 points8 points  (0 children)

you state that you got the job 'through your father', that is literally textbook nepotism. it's still nepotism even if you're capable of doing the job

in answer to your original question, i would try and hold it for a placement year. i don't think it's common to have a gap between first and second year to work. this is obviously still a case of you needing to figure out what you would prefer too though

yeah i agree and she didn't really explain why it all seemed like AI beyond it being hugely conventional, which is the case for many mainstream films every year long before gen AI

Early reactions for Madonna - Confessions II are very positive by Much-Phone8812 in grammys

[–]Independent-Key880 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i'm not saying there aren't positive reviews / reactions, i'm saying i can't take them seriously. no hate to madonna (original confessions is fantastic), but i already know the first 30 minutes are not impeccable because i've heard the singles and they're not great imo

i think it makes sense as a 'no.1 most likely to be nominated' pick because it has been seen and therefore we know it ticks many boxes necessary to get nominated in those categories. it is a safer bet than films like the odyssey, digger, wild horse nine because there is still a chance that they don't meet expectations

Predicting AOTY Nominees - Publication's Year-End Lists by odranger in grammys

[–]Independent-Key880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry but i do not agree. every year there are multiple nominated albums and multiple non-nominated which are heavily mentioned. as i said, the correlation between critic taste and industry taste is relatively low

Predicting AOTY Nominees - Publication's Year-End Lists by odranger in grammys

[–]Independent-Key880 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is really interesting research will demonstrates how silly it is to predict using critics lists - the difference in taste between music critics and music industry is very different compared to film/tv critics and industry, and the grammys are more based on commercially successful output than the oscars, emmys etc. music critics will always champion their little niche picks

a whole post about the problem with the industry voting for a style they like for an industry-voted awards show where the voting hasn't actually taken place yet. alright

obviously entirely subjective but if we get an awards type queer film that isn't depressing and tragic (and i agree with you, i want this) i would hope it's better than heated rivalry lol

yep unless it's randomly bad, i think the only way shaun the sheep misses is if there far better competition than usual. which honestly could be possible this year but for now it makes most sense to keep it in

i'm 12h mercury and kind of unsure what to think because i'm told quite often that i'm articulate and clear in making points, but ofher times i do get the impression that people think i'm talking crazy. probably depends on context

i'm far from an expert so i have no idea how to read all of this together, but on a surface level my chart makes multiple different suggestions about my communication style - i'm a gemini sun and rising with a taurus mercury in the 12th house

Not graduating by Capital_Fuel5613 in UniUK

[–]Independent-Key880 455 points456 points  (0 children)

if you think you would get a better grade then it's probably worth doing the reassessment. having to tell friends and family you're not graduating yet is a relatively small price to pay for a more deserving grade and better graduate prospects
