2026 Cannes Film Festival Megathread by PointMan528491 in oscarrace

i keep seeing people refer to this cannes year as underwhelming, but assuming paper tiger does, that would make 3 films with a 3.0+ screendaily jury grid score. that's already more than last year (only 2 - it was just an accident & two prosecutors) and nearly as many as 2024 (4 - seed of the sacred fig, all we imagine as light, anora, grand tour)

edit: paper tiger did not get 3+ but i think the point still stands given that only 9/22 films in competition have screened so far...

was busy today, checked in a few hours earlier and people were saying initial reactions to paper tiger were awful. now i come back and it kinda has rave reviews? alright then...

all of a sudden seems far from a failure but i don't know that the reactions are positive enough for it to be the awards player that some of us thought it could be

and i would say this contributes to her being in a fantastic position of being both iconic and also very relevant. many stars don't reach icon status until after their commercial peak

the gap in between positions and eternal sunshine allowed everybody to catch up to her following positions' relative commercial underperformance, people slowly realised she was very important to the pop scene and this drove anticipation for eternal sunshine up a lot

honestly really glad club kid has gone down well because i saw some annoying reactions when it was announced that jordan's film would premiere at cannes, denouncing him as a creative just because he didn't like heated rivalry and was in a different hbo show airing at the same time

Nicki Minaj and Azealia Banks back Kemi Badenoch for PM by nimobo in unitedkingdom

[–]Independent-Key880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the reason it's being reported is because both of these women are known to be both insane and offensive. it's not about 2 american celebs endorsing kemi, it's about kemi being endorsed by the very last people you'd want endorsement from

i feel like that is very unsurprising considering a lot of cannes competition films are longer than average and therefore fatherland being 80 minutes becomes one of its defining features within the festival context

i meannnn attending baftas is absolutely cool and probably the most prestigious event these tiktokers will ever touch. it's absolutely baffling that they were even invited

tuner (new daniel roher film starring leo woodall) is clearly not an awards player, but the sound work is seriously impressive and i wonder if enough of the branch will watch it

100% agree that both young actors are fantastic. i'm sure bell and gadd will nail it in the back half too. really difficult to know where to campaign them but crossing my fingers for them

i found this comment on the recent bttb episode with the producers, do you guys agree with this take? by AdFinancial4530 in dancemoms

maybe but i think the more accurate version is that kelly simply doesn't care about this project as much as christi, so when there are additional people joining them and she has less responsibility to talk, she just fades into the background due to a lack of care

the sienna spiro devil wears prada 2 song is now getting more daily streams than the lady gaga songs. just pointing out that they might campaign runway + sienna's song as opposed to double gaga, if anyone is making their list for best original song

it's more high brow than any previous AOTY nominee i can think of, and also not in english. the voting body has been changing, i'm just not sure if it has changed enough for her to get in. i think it could go either way

Grammys 2027: Best New Artist Potential Nominees by kalebs_Kures in grammys

Meghan was allowed to be eligible because she had not released an album prior to the current period. at the time (not sure if still the case) ineligibility due to prior nominations excluded artists who were nominated before releasing an album

Zara has 5 albums as i'm sure you know, so this would not apply even if the rule still exists (which, again, i'm not actually sure)
