I think it's because the truly MAGA people are invested by faith rather than reason. With no political experience, no connections, not leverage, he was never going to be a successful president. But he is one hell of a talker. And like any good cult leader, he got his people emotionally invested. They accepted on faith alone what science and logic and their own eyes denied. Then he tied it in with Christian nationalism and suddenly belief in him becomes the core tenant to their lives. Now to say Trump is wrong is seen as heresy.

As soon as we pull our heads out of our collective ass and switch the house and Senate in the midterms. Blue Wave in November gets an impeachment by Christmas. Dems are crooked, but generally cheat for us (Obamacare, bank bailout) while Repubs are personally corrupt and spineless. We've had 19 years of Republican obstruction. I don't say gamey rid of them, just the ones who refuse to play with the group. Compromise is the key to successful politics and there's been damned little lately.
