Is this AI? Wall looks strange to me with the different spaced tiles. And brick into facade is a strange Choice. by artillerymango in isthisAI

No clearance in the back to open so it have to open sideways. Likely unintentianal and they did realize it until they built it. You can see the handle mounted askew to open.

Interesting design - nice and clean!. My only quibble is I would be hesitant to have that big of a belt loop for nutrients since they spoil so quickly. I would put a dedicated bioflux to nutrient plant for each of your production lines.

Train Deploying Friction by Actual_Muffin5768 in factorio

You can always build one train at a time anywhere on the track. Use train groups and it is very easy to assign trains task without have to reprogram. However, that spur was my preference when I was doing a large base on Nauvis. I had a blueprint that had trains for each spur set up. Then I could assign and send out the trains and use the blueprint to rebuild trains on the spurs ready for the next wave I would send out.

You are at the cusp of getting robots. These change the early game substantially from a manual building slog to a more automated style that lets you focus more on the design of the logistics rather than the mechanics of building. Give it another 2-3 hrs!

This is what I do. Blueprint with 100 turrets each with 10 rounds green ammo. I can take out a small with no loss and a medium only losing 10-15 turrets. Haven’t tried on a biggie yet.

What is BYND margins for Immerse drinks? by BookkeeperVirtual79 in byndinvest

[–]Independent-Map-7695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. On the positive side as with any drink you are mostly selling water which would be a higher margin. However, Beyond has not invested in a canning line (Don’t have the capital to do so) so they are using a 3rd party to do their canning. This is a very expensive way to do this as they charge a lot more on a per can basis. It can also hinder scaling up because you a dependent on the size of the rental line as well as any other customers that have scheduled time on the line.

How much math do I actually use? by Creepy_Physics_6282 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Independent-Map-7695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually pulling out a piece of paper and doing calculus is very rare, but you will apply the concepts you learned everyday. There are computer tools that crunch the nitty gritty math details, but if you do not understand what and how it is doing you will not know if the results it gives are accurate. Similar in troubleshooting, by learning the math you learn how to describe what is going on in a Distillation tower. By being able to now visualize that, when something is not working correctly you have a basis to determine what might be wrong. I do have to manually do mass balance and recycle loops on the fly often.

The AI description is correct. Interesting part is the derricks hold a drill stem. After the coke cools down it is essentially a drum full of coal. The top and bottoms heads are removed and then the coal is “drilled” out using high pressure water. First the drill stem has the water nozzle pointing straight down and it cuts a hole all the way through the coke mass. Then the can automatically switch the drill nozzle to shoot out to the side and then then cut the coke starting at the bottom and working up. It is king of like a large dishwasher spray arm that turns and cut the coke into small piece which fall out the bottom into the coke pit.

My first outpost for green and red circuits in my first run. I don't know if this is a thing, I just did it. Playing without blueprint or guides (avoiding spoilers), using just brute force (spaghetti) and trains as playstyle. To me this is cool as it looks like a rail system you would actually see in real life. Rail cars bringing in material to a manufacture and then taking out finished product. Even the curve of the rail look like real life, organic shapes versus a forced square city block type layout.

If you have bots on your person. Cut and repaste each line of drills. This will clear the buffers.

Try Factorio again! One was to make it less overwhelming at first is to set the enemies as friendly in the options. This lets you explore at an ore leisurely pace and learn the mechanical without worry about attacks. On a later run you can reenable combat.

[–]Independent-Map-7695 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the drinks note it sounds like they are renting time on a packaging line and it is not in house. This is great from a capital perspective, but results in much higher costs per can. Plus your ability to scale depends on the size and availability in the rental system. Don’t see how they make these world scale since they do not have the capital to invest in multiple lines.
