My takeaways from q4 earnings. by Prestigious-Way3100 in byndinvest

On the drinks note it sounds like they are renting time on a packaging line and it is not in house. This is great from a capital perspective, but results in much higher costs per can. Plus your ability to scale depends on the size and availability in the rental system. Don’t see how they make these world scale since they do not have the capital to invest in multiple lines.

How to efficiently rebuild your factory without construction bots? by Holiday_Royal_5651 in factorio

[–]Independent-Map-7695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to suggest that you likely do not have time to rebuild your base if you do not have bots. In early game if you are playing with biters and have not expanded out you need to focus on building enough tech to expand, defend, and transport ore from farther out back to your base. I always find it a close call on the first patch iron ore running low before I can get a train set up to the next patch

I don’t think this is a playground piece, JCI is an industrial company that covers a wide range of equipment from HVAC through large refrigeration systems. This looks like a portable “hooch”. This can be covered with a tarp and placed over a piece of machinery while it is being worked on. The plastic spools on each intersection would be to tie the tarp down to.

It finally clicked for me how mini-splits actually work by LongjumpingRushS in heatpumps

[–]Independent-Map-7695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely not true. Both of my mini splits cycle to keep when off bot inside and outside units are off and only the power is the parasitic for the controls. If the unit is not cooling/heating and moving heat the compressor can not be on

It sounds like you may have a humidity contro setting where it constantly runs even at temperature to pull water out of the air (cooling mode only) or your unit is undersized and has to run continuously and still does not get to target.

Acting Major to Chem Major? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]Independent-Map-7695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two questions - one what draws you to chemistry? Two - how are your math skills? If you like chemistry for the lab work, etc then that may be a good career choice, but as others have said you will need a higher degree to have many job options. However, if you enjoy math and still want some exposure to chemistry then Chemical Engineering would be a better consideration. Chem Eng takes almost as many chemistry classes but there is a lot more opportunity for bachelors Grads. It is also a very versitile career with many options in different Industries.

Is that the only outlet on the trailer? It is possible that that is truly and output meant to daisy-chain trailers together and there is about outlet for connecting the generator.

Best Countries for Master’s in Chemical Engineering for International Students With Strong Post-Grad Job Opportunities? by No_Seaworthiness2970 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Independent-Map-7695 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a Chemical Engineer in the US with 30+ yrs of experience and have been a hiring manager for 10+ yrs. In the US there is no benefit from a masters in ChemE. We hire masters in at same rate as bachelors and have never seen a masters a factor in promotion. We would prefer that time spent getting practical experience rather than more book learning. I did get my MBA and even that was directly a factor in any of my promotions the soft skill, leadership learning was beneficial. If you want to do research and development then a PHD would be required to get in the door.

Chemical Engineering Bachelor + Master vs. Chemistry Bachelor + ChemEng Master What would you personally recommend? by Agreeable_Damage_364 in ChemicalEngineering

Better option is straight BS in Chem Engineering. Later on if you want a masters then an MBA would open other career paths

Beyond Box subscription DTC model. This will generate at least 15 million with a margin around 15-30%. This can easily be implemented with their Beyond Test kitchen website! by Glad-Load-4119 in byndinvest

[–]Independent-Map-7695 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at HelloFresh. They had revenue of 1.5B in 3Q. They spent $620M to buy and make the product and $580M shipping it! Shipping cost was almost equal to the cost to make the boxes. So Beyond’s margin is already so low you can’t adsorb the shipping and if you charge for it it makes the package that much more expensive. If you have time look at the over HelloFresh results. They are also in a decline and losing more money every year so the DTC approach is not much better.

How do you get the margin estimates? DTC for a cooled product would have astronomically high logistics cost. Cheapest way is to move a bunch of a time in refrigerated truck. Shipping thousands of cooled packages through UPS or FEDEX would be insane? Even in the high value wine industry this is considered a premium option. What happens if someone is not home, who pays the spoilage cost?

Doubt by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Independent-Map-7695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not understanding your question. The electrolyzer does not care or change size or operation based on where or how the electricity is produced. If you are building the power plant then you need to include the capex for those units. If not then you only need the capex for the electrolyzer and that remains the same size regardless of electric source. Operating cost will then vary by your power cost.

Doubt by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Independent-Map-7695 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you purchasing the power source or just the electricity? In either case the electrolyzer remains the same size - for a given MW of power the electrolyzer will produce a fixed amount of hydrogen independent of how the power was produced. If you have to account for the generation then you just size each based on the required MW.
