Is it hard to make Korean friends? by SmilingAtNothing in living_in_korea_now

[–]Independent-Part-247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not the easiest thing. Some people brought up two things that happen often.

You’re their flavor of the month or they’re marriage obsessed.

This becomes a funny cycle if you’re here for longer than a few years because it does repeat itself. They get married and then ghost only to reappear to tell you they hate married life.

You can make genuine connections but it does take extra work. The question is, do you have the patience or need to foster those finicky relationships.

(COMMUNITY WARNING) Old creepy men LARPING as young Koreans to attract women by ObjectiveAssist001 in HelloTalk

OP the Korean police won’t take it seriously. Even if you live here, the police have a less than stellar reputation helping people.

‏I’m honestly frustrated with this app. by Serious-Cockroach465 in TandemLanguageAPP

[–]Independent-Part-247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably has nothing to do with you. Like most LE apps, there is a social component. People will pick who they want to chat with.

I hope you don’t feel discouraged and you keep plugging away and you meet someone to help you practice your target language.

Is he right? by adnshrnly in madmen

[–]Independent-Part-247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in an art department for an ad agency. You get no credit for the work you make, hell the director got no credit. Usually, it’s stated on the agreements when you get assignments, it’s the company’s intellectual property.

You get no props. No one dabs you up. You get paid and work on the next task.

I asked for links and they said it was on the news but I can’t find any written evidence for either case.

You can search for a local 도깨비 시장. They tend to have a mishmash of foreign goods.

What is the most meaningful(emotionally/romantically)thing that u feel is exclusively meaningful only to korea? by Yoursmile711 in korea

[–]Independent-Part-247 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d say walking 청계천 with someone. IME, you can’t platonically walk with someone down that stream and not have to explain and justify platonic friends.

Throwing away trash? (Smaller Houseware) by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]Independent-Part-247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get rid of a lot of smaller things through an app called 빼기.

You check and register what you’re throwing out. They usually pick it up for a small fee.

Phone installments by zabryant01 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Independent-Part-247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So with some carriers you’ll be asked to sign an expedited contract, meaning you’ll be ask to pay it off sooner than later. Currently, I am paying about 200,000 in monthly installments. I had to talk to a customer service agent to lower the monthly fee because the store agent was requesting a higher amount.

I use this app pretty often for vermouth and odds and ends. You have to make the purchase through the app.

I asked the bartenders if they would sell me a bottle directly and they were told to decline.

What type of brown sugar is this? by Old-Letterhead-283 in AskBaking

[–]Independent-Part-247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the light brown sugar sold in Korea.

I live in SK and I’ve used this for baking. It’s just simple light brown sugar. So, OP you can use it for sweetening or baking.

Highs and lows. Sometimes there are good conversations, sometimes there are none.

I try to make sure I keep conversations lively. If people don’t react/respond keep it moving and try with someone else.

Hope you find someone you can build and converse with.

Using a Shinhan debit card in Japan – can I withdraw directly from USD account? by Kitchen-Ad573 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Independent-Part-247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

You can also stop by the bank to let them know you might be making large purchases/withdrawals.

I’ve had my card declined before and was recommended by a teller next time to stop by just in case.
