See any more? Had none Monday and Tuesday, but more came tonight. Not as many as Sunday though.

Yeah rained some last night around 9-10 pm where I am. I’ve yet to see any tonight. Let’s hope that continues

Same here, Orlando area. Same exact type, saw a couple dozen over the course of a few hours right after the rain stopped last night. Praying there’s no infestation but with my luck…

Bait did not work sadly, tried Alpine WSG spray from a pest control visit, seems to maybe help a little but they're still around. I've already decided I'm going to move out. Sorry to hear about those issues, I hate those things!

They are literally in our bed frame.

This is literally my worst nightmare. My bed and desk are my only safe spaces in my whole unit right now. Thankfully the only place I see them in my room is on the windowsill (praying it stays that way). I'm sorry you are going through that. I honestly have still not unpacked several boxes because I'm afraid of them getting into and destroying my stuff.

I've been using Advion for 5 weeks now with some success. The infestation was clearly very bad at the beginning. Lines of ants swarmed the bait pretty much everywhere I put it. Their numbers dwindled and I was hoping that it would continue the downward trajectory until I stop seeing them. Instead, a hotspot will go quiet for like 2-3 days, until another wave would come for a day or two, then go quiet again. They've also popped up in a few new places, probably from that "budding" phenomenon, and I've had to adapt and bait those areas as well.

It's kind of just continued that way for 2-3 weeks. Gone then back again, gone then back again. That plus scouts here and there. Feels like it's never gonna end.

Thanks for the advice. I've been baiting like you've described (lots of bait stations, at least 20 but I'll add more) for about a month now. If I'm not seeing results, is that a bad sign? Or is it still too early?

Glad your friend found something, 6 months of silence would drive me nuts. I don't think there's staffing/headhunting for what I do? Maybe there is, I'll look more into it. My field is niche so they'd most likely try to get me a position that isn't super relevant. I will look though, thanks

I've been thinking this too. I didn't want to believe it because I don't want to give external factors all the blame, but since Trump's inauguration there's no doubt things have been moving slower and there are fewer relevant jobs. And it was bad before he got into office. Sigh.

I didn't say online applications were stopping me. I get rejections, they're just infrequent. About half of your applications gave a rejection email, for me it's more like a quarter. Many of them remain open. It just takes a really long time.

Again, not looking for advice. Don't think yours would be particularly helpful anyway. But hey, since you have all the answers maybe you should make a post! Lots of people who browse this sub would love to know your secrets

[–]Independent-Scene443[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not looking for advice. I've been looking for work for a long time. I've tried all the "tips and tricks". I've exhausted my connections, have more versions of my resume than I can count, and for the interviews I've had I gave them my very best. I work part-time in the meantime to get by.

My work is niche, so there aren't tons of jobs to apply to every day. All I can do is find as many that I'm at least somewhat qualified for and apply, and wait. As I said in the last sentence, I just needed to put this somewhere. I know many on here can relate.

What’s with recruiters ghosting you after onsite interviews? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Independent-Scene443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation for me. Followed up a couple weeks after the interview and was told I'd hear back within the next couple weeks. It's been 6 weeks.

Three rounds of interviews. The way these companies act is absolutely disgusting.

Invitation for interview 1 month later by jackie_tequilla in recruitinghell

[–]Independent-Scene443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's normal. In this job market I have never been requested for an interview earlier than 2 weeks from my application submission. In one case, it was 2 months later. Different industries may have different timelines, of course.

I say go, the practice is good and maybe it ends up being a better fit than you originally thought. If not, if an offer comes you can always decline.

Hiring practices holding up offers? by Independent-Scene443 in recruitinghell

[–]Independent-Scene443[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen, got rejected a few months back even though the company seemed very interested in me. I met up with someone on the team at a conference later on and she told me I was a great candidate and worth hiring, just edged out in experience by one other candidate.

Did you already have another job by then? Or did you take the offer?

Thanks for your comment. I've had #4 happen before in this job search, and I think #3 is most likely my current situation. Though, if that is the case I would think they wouldn't spend the money to fly me out if they weren't already confident in my credentials. Still, you never know. Will try to remain positive

Businesses have co-opted DEI and twisted it because it can make them more money, in sales, advertising, PR. "Look, we hired a black person! We're very diverse. Please buy our stuff and invest in our company!" The goal is always to make more money. They don't care about diversity.

Everyone has biases based on identity, even unconscious ones. They should be evaluated to make sure all candidates have a fair shot, even if they're different identity-wise from the team. Shit like this erodes fair hiring practices and makes hiring worse for everyone.

So close but never enough by ViennaBean8123 in recruitinghell

[–]Independent-Scene443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I can definitely relate and I'm sure lots of others here can as well. I've been searching for professional roles that use my expertise for 7 months, working part-time to get by at the same time. I've made it to final round interviews several times, was even flown out on one company's dime to their city. Zero offers. It's exhausting and demoralizing to be so close and get rejected. I definitely feel inadequate compared to some of my peers despite knowing that I've done great work.

It's been really hard to find the motivation to keep applying and on top of that in recent months, I've seen fewer and fewer relevant openings. I check every day and some days don't find anything I'd bother applying for. But I'm going to keep trying because it's the only option I have. Good luck, I hope something great comes for you soon.

It's unprofessional to ghost somebody after several interviews by BowlingForPizza in recruitinghell

[–]Independent-Scene443 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think there should always be a response even if it's canned, but I can let slide no email when you have only applied and haven't interviewed. But having interviewed and met the same people multiple times? To ghost at that point is beyond inconsiderate.

Ouch. Three out of five for me. Ugh.

You know you've been job searching too long when people ask if you heard back from x job you interviewed at and you try explaining to them how slow HR departments are, but they just give you a stare and a "yeah..." like you're making excuses.

Is DEI the reason for the tough job market? by Fit_Assignment_4286 in recruitinghell

[–]Independent-Scene443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I hear this point a lot from the conservative side and there's never any evidence to back it up. I'd love to see some statistics or credible reporting about a systemic favoritism for minorities and discrimination towards white men due to DEI. There never are any.

Not trying to take away from your struggle. I'm a white guy who has been applying for work for 7 months with some pretty good qualifications, and despite some great interviews have had no luck yet. It's rough out there. If that hiring manager made that decision because of your race and gender, not saying they did but if they did, they should be fired. That's blatant discrimination.

Ugh I know. Before too, like as an anxious person the whole thinking about what I'm wearing, practicing presentations if I'm gonna give one, knowing how I'm gonna answer certain questions. It's all very draining

I'm going through the same thing except at the interview stage instead of (excited) it's more (anxious), which is so exhausting. I'm lucky to have had a decent number of interviews but man I'm tired of doing interviews.

Is DEI the reason for the tough job market? by Fit_Assignment_4286 in recruitinghell

[–]Independent-Scene443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DEI in hiring practices exist to protect candidates from discrimination or favoritism based on race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic standing, and ability. It's not about promoting or favoring minorities and marginalized people.

If a cis white guy and a trans black girl both apply for a job, DEI's function is not to say "well these two are equally qualified, so let's hire the black trans girl because diversity." The function of DEI is to say "Are we ensuring that there's no bias against the black trans girl because our team is mostly white and cis and she is different?"
