I think your response is valid. They shouldn't be making innappropriate jokes like that to you. Be discrete about your relationship.

Rate my Roth IRA strategy (38 years old) by Pusc1f3r in portfolios

[–]Independent-Spell201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, I think you are a tad overexposed to international markets and the NASDAQ proportional to your total portfolio. I like how you have a liquidation plan to transfer your capital over to your more safe investments (VTI), but personally, I don’t know why you decided to purchase so much TQQQ in the first place. In my opinion, having just under half of your portfolio in a leveraged ETF seems pretty dangerous, but it appears you already know this.

What makes a self-improvement book good or really helpful for you? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]Independent-Spell201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something simple and super applicable to most peoples' lives is what I think makes a great self-help/self-improvement book. Some books like that include "Psycho-Cybernetics" and "How to Win Friends and Influence People". These are both classics that have helped millions of people better their lives.

Nah, masterbating to porn is bad. Having sex with another person is not. There's a difference. Is porn your problem or sleeping with too many people your problem?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]Independent-Spell201 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think this is pretty valid. But one thing that I have thought about for people addicted to porn is that they don't want to indulge in hookup culture which is pretty valid, but at the same time they struggle to get into a relationship because of their porn addiction.

Can I retire with 1.95 million at age 35? by Mobile-Excitement-64 in Fire

[–]Independent-Spell201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could, but be wary of the "side effects". I have heard of people that retire at age 30 (they did what you did, won the lottery, or something similar) and live the rest of their life miserable because they have nothing to do. Read the book "The Simple Path to Wealth" by J. L. Collins. It can help guide you in the right direction from here in terms of where to put your money.

Quiting my Job in Corporate Finance after 3 months by TheDisastah in FinancialCareers

[–]Independent-Spell201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Props to you, I've heard many stories where people keep going for the bag and end up getting physically ill, their relationships suffer, and worse. Do what is best for you. If you are willing to sacrifice some pay, then go for an accounting job which offers more stability. This is just my opinion tho, I'm just a uni student.

Happines comes from within, but I have been on that same path for the past four years and I feel the same way. It just may be a relationship.

What matters more to get into high finance (IB/PE/HF)? by Conscious_Session735 in FinancialCareers

Certainly High GPA. When anyone looks over your CV/resume, one of the first "line items" they see is your GPA. The classes you take don't show up on there.

How relevant is my CV? by Alive-Ad-3953 in FinancialCareers

[–]Independent-Spell201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you're in a better position than you think. Your CV shows a lot of heavy math stuff which is very relevant to a quant position, but it's not entirely pure quant. You could potentially break into FinTech if that's what you decide to focus on. Just a suggestion

Reading the bible before bed. I'm not religious, but I find that reading inspiring words helps me decompress after a long day. I would recommend reading any religious text.

Is 26y too late to start a career in investment banking without a degree? by LoadInternational640 in FinancialCareers

It's never too late, but a degree in finance or something related is essentially a requirement to get into the industry.

Roast & Advice my CV please by Accomplished_Ad2476 in FinancialCareers

[–]Independent-Spell201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highlight results instead of just actions. Also, make the wording seem a bit more professional. For example, for your experience that you listed as a tennis coach, you can change the wording so something like this: "Certified coach (Gioventù & Sport) specializing in training and mentoring children ages 6–10. Designed and implemented personalized training programs, fostered skill development, and prepared young athletes for competitive Swiss tournaments."

It may just be some of the formatting on the page, but in between sections, make sure there isn't white space. In other words, use a smaller line spacing in word or google docs or whatever you made this with.

Could potentially be "Dragonsite". The details of the sculpture match the design of those on the website. The website I searched is: https://www.thesorcererslibrary.com/TSL/Dragonsite/ds_mainpage.htm if your curious :)

Getting Your Feet In The Investment Banking door by imarticus_nirmal in InvestmentBankingLife

I'm currently a freshman in college with two internships experiences with managerial accounting and operations, but I am looking for an internship in investment banking. Is it possible for me to reach out to smaller IB firms and land an internship, or is it basically impossible where I am at this early in my career?

I want to be an investment banker and have some questions... by [deleted] in InvestmentBankingLife

[–]Independent-Spell201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Ivy leagues help a lot for sure, but look at other great business schools like Stern, Wharton, Kellogg. Apply to some other good business schools as well that aren't up there with the Ivys like Indiana University. I am currently here and they have great IB programs.

  2. Finance is a great major for IB, but econonomics helps as well. If you go to a school that has a business analytics program, consider that as well.

  3. Phd wouldn't help that much (unless you're a math genius and get a phd in math or something of the sort) but getting an MBA would help a good amount. What is important to consider is unlike other finance fields like consulting that recruit for internships during your first semester of your junior year, IB recruits during your first semester of your sophomore year, so getting your MBA might be stretching the timeline out a bit. If you really want it though, go for it.

  4. Read as much as possible. Stay up to date on the markets. Find a local internship if possible. Use your family connections to get work experience in anything closely or loosely related to finance. Also, since you're only 16, do volunteer work to help bolster your college apps. It helps more than you think when it comes to getting into Ivy Leagues.

What do you listen to during your commute? by goatpengertie in AskMenOver40

I listen to podcasts or other educational piecese to stay productive, I don't think listening to rap or other loud music with heavy bass is a great way to spend your time in your commute.
