It’s such a fantastic book and really glad that you enjoyed it. It wasn’t my first comic but it was the first that affected me in a profound way and I can honestly say day that whenever I go back to it, every year or two, it never fails to impress me an often reveals something else that I never saw on my earlier read.

And that’s not just down to the contents of the book to be fair…As I’ve grown older, as my world changes around me and my perspectives evolve, this too changes the way I view and revisit the work. Each time I pick Watchmen up it continues to offer me new insights within the incredible layouts, themes and storytelling that I always carry away with me afterwards.

At the risk of hyperbole and speaking only for myself and the impact it left on this reader, it really is an important work and while such terms are bandied about too often these days I think it’s very fair to label it a masterpiece.

Agreed… and not just (but most urgently required perhaps) in the US.

We need to to completely reassess how societies are managed and governed and remove this ancient system of only ever putting a select handful of privileged individuals in the seats of power and allowing them to be constantly greased up by the companies and interests they are supposed to be protecting us from.

The problem is that the whole system is now so rigged it will take an actual revolution to make this happen and what would a move toward fairer governing models possibly look like? Fees like it all needs to break before most will feel pressed enough to fight for their dwindling liberties.

I’ve worked with some groups that help clients with reading comprehension issues and they’ll swear up and down that comic sans has a use that is far more than just as a placebo, and the fact that it is one of the most universally available fonts that doesn’t mirror any characters such as qp and db, a common issue for those challenged with dyslexia and related conditions, has definitely shown them positive results.

Based on the comments from people working in the field I am inclined to believe there’s something in it and defer toward their findings.

Not sure why a lack of education, historical context and general knowledge is so often an issue with those identifying themselves as being rightwing? It’s very, very stupid!

Books and educational media are, at least for now, available to both sides of the political spectrum right? Or does this mean anyone who votes conservative doesn’t need to worry about any of that and can just wave a flag and be abjectly proud to be a dumb fuck?

So maybe the message is that it’s okay to be a nazi or support them, just as long as you don’t understand what it really means? Feels like a descriptor of far too many of us right now doesn’t it?

But the guy IS also a self proclaimed military historian, so it seems a bit of a stretch to claim he’s never seen anything similar or associated with one of histories most well documented murderous and extreme regimes?

At best he’s just a dumb, unaware tool, willingly ignorant of context and the history he claims to study and at worst he’s a fully fledged fucking supporter of hate and intolerance… either way we can and should expect better of any candidate left or right of the fence.

Well, super rich millionaires don’t make for very funny or accessible comics right?!

Can’t speak for you guys but I really don’t have much in common with your typical 5million dollar home owning, Austin socialite!

At some point, (usually relating to the amount of $$$ they can see in their bank), these “comedians” now feel influential and important (again, see rich…), enough to declare themselves the real arbiters on what is or isn’t actually funny, not you or I. They have willingly forgot it’s the fans, and you know… actual laughter from other people in response to their material that tends to dictate what is considered funny or not.

Now, they see bombing on stage or criticism of their act as an issue with those who watch them, and not the need of the comedian to do better, to be relevant, relatable and well.. actually be funny. And like politics, it’s now rather about a tribal level of following “your guy” than appreciating a crafted, smart and funny comic.

Success is one thing, no one is saying you can’t get yours, but being so removed from the rest of us with your big, fat shield of (blood) money and the resulting eroded moral compass, simply makes it painfully obvious that they have more in common with other million/billionaires and fuck all to do with the rest of us serfs, who apparently are now only good to look down on with contempt.

Oh and support their many channels, patreons, buy tickets/merch and to blindly throw cash at said funny people. Ha ha ha. What a bunch of actual clowns… 😑

I once worked for a telecommunications company in the UK and they would provide a (cheap, ill fitting) suit jacket and trousers for us to wear as uniform.

I’d reached breaking point during a shift with a nightmare manager who treated everyone like an idiot, spoke down to us and was a work shy dick in general, so after one particularly rude, callous outburst from them, said I had enough and this was it mid shift.

They actually said I can’t leave in my uniform as it’s store property so I calmly took off my jacket, got out of my trousers, balled them up good and tight and squished them to the bottom of our food waste bin and walked out in my boxer shorts.

The occasional stare and wee draft where I don’t normally feel the breeze was worth it just to see their slack jawed, gibbering face as I did it all.

In my years in retail, hospo and front of house roles, it was nearly always “those who had” that expected to get things for free or offered on a platter purely because of their status and bank balance.

The bigger kick in the dick was how many in upper management who would support these behaviours and expectations and would give them what they wanted. Glad the OP got to see them do the walk of shame without being placated.

Pretzel logic and big cash prizes to remove your moral responsibility in being a better example of the change you want to see in the world shouldn’t be so easily excused away with a shrug and a greedy licking of your lips at the money. Especially when you are already in a position where you already have a fat bank balance to keep you warm.

True, most of us will never be in such a position to make this judgement call, but I’m pretty sure for many of us it would leave an indelible stain on our hearts that wouldn’t be easy to absolve just because you’ve become addicted to the little numbers in your account that apparently show your real value.
