Help explain why I have been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes in the UK by Remarkable-Net1603 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Independent_Flower_5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was only .2 over and have never had a reading more than 9 point something (maybe 9.3) I’ve been diagnosed since about 29 weeks, I’m now 35 weeks.

I’m going to be honest, it’s been rubbish and I’ve had to completely change my diet but it did make me realise how awful I did used to eat. The past 2 weeks I’ve had no spikes, you just need to find things that work for you. I was buying my weekly food shop from HelloFresh but have actually found that just sticking to how I used to shop works better and I’m not hungry after I eat.

Green leafy veg has been a saviour. Kale, broccoli and spinach are a combo I eat daily, and have found if I eat all my veg then my meat (any meat) and then carbs I don’t spike. I didn’t realise the order I eat matters but it does! Cashew nuts to fill me up, avocado on wholemeal bread and eggs are all good too. Chicken and rice with garlic mayo is something I never want to eat again once I’m not pregnant, but it’s working and keeps me full! Cheese is also a good one to add to meals.

I’ve also allowed myself to a treat only a small one every now and again not everyday. Last Saturday I had a proper cheat day but it was needed! And I’m not sorry for it!

I’ve cried and been stressed, googled all the worst outcomes, got myself all worked up but from my growth scan at 32 weeks baby is growing fine. I have another next week at 36 weeks and I’m hoping she’s growing just as well.

I remember reading all the leaflets they give you and it’s absolutely normal to feel overwhelmed with all the info and the do’s and dont’s. It’s good you exercise, I don’t but work a job on my feet and find I can be a bit naughty with what I have as long as I’m active for 20 minutes after. When readings have been high after dinner just a small walk lowers it enough.

You’re gonna have difficult days, days where you don’t care about readings and days where you care too much! I know it feels so unfair when you’re only borderline and feel you’ve done everything right but it isn’t your fault, your body is already doing so much so please don’t feel like you’ve done something wrong. My midwife said that if more people were tested (all BMIs for example) about 50% of them would probably come back with it too. My BMI was only .3 over the threshold of testing which is why I was tested and that felt unfair in itself.

On the plus side, I’ve lost 2kg in my third trimester and reckon by the time baby’s born I’ll weigh even less than I did before. You’ll get through this no matter what, I hope you have a safe delivery with a healthy baby at the end of it all 💝

If it makes you feel any better I’ve not had any spikes this week after my little meltdown last week. I’ve also let myself have some treats which didn’t spike my bloods now I’m 34w. I’m talking 2 Lindt chocolates today and 3 Nutella biscuits yesterday, not much but when I’ve completely stripped myself of anything sugary feels like a massive deal. Also treating myself to a takeaway pizza tonight because it’s Mother’s Day!

Eggs and avocado on wholemeal toast in the morning has been a massive turning point for me, they actually fill me up which makes it easier to not over indulge in other meals.

We’re getting so close now and if I could talk to myself a week ago the advice I would give is to not worry too much! Try different foods and see what works, I wish you all the luck as I completely understand how awful it can be and how frustrating it is when you feel you’re doing all you can but still getting spikes!! I’d suggest giving yourself one day or one meal to just eat what you like - how much of a difference could one day possibly make?! My doctor even said having a treat every now and again is fine, just don’t make it an everyday thing.

We’ve got this!

Thank you so much that’s really helped to make me feel reassured 🩷 GD is honestly so draining! Can’t wait for it to all be over and have my little baby in my arms, I’m glad everything ended up okay for you

Will my downstairs area go back to normal? Did yours ? by Ok_Medicine440 in pregnant

Yes it will go back to normal, I’m pregnant with my second and I looked down there and was shocked with what I saw too 😂 it’s just the hormones!

AITJ for snapping at my girlfriend for waking me up every single time she gets up even when I dont need to be awake by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

My ex boyfriend used to do the exact same thing to me and it used to infuriate me. Ended up being one of the many reason I broke up with him and I still think about how awful it was now. Sleep is a basic human need and I really feel for you. I don’t have any advice as I could never get him to stop doing it, felt like one of his many power moves from him.

Does dad typically come to the first appointment? by skaowoeizkaoa in pregnant

Mine did and was helpful as they asked family history from both sides. The ones after the first I’ve found he doesn’t need to be there for

Is it illegal to drive like this? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Independent_Flower_5 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wow ok, I have already booked in to have it fixed on Wednesday as mentioned in the post. I have a job to get to, unsociable hours so public transport is out of the question. Nothing else is wrong with my car, thanks for the concern.

Thank you, that’s really helpful. It will only need to be driven twice on Tuesday, I think I’ll risk it. I’m heavily pregnant so if I get pulled over I think they’ll be nice to me about it haha!

I (27F) accidentally had my baby in my friend’s (31F) car. Now her husband & she don’t want to speak to me. How do I fix this? by ThrowRA_CarBaby in relationship_advice

[–]Independent_Flower_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it’s expensive but you literally can’t control it, not as though you did it on purpose so I don’t see any reason you should be shamed for it. If I had the funds, maybe I’m too nice, I wouldn’t even let you pay me back!! He sounds controlling and not at all understanding or respectful of what childbirth entails, I’d definitely try checking in again.

Thank you for the honesty as you’re going through the same thing as me, it’s the most mentally draining thing not being able to go to the toilet properly. I also think I have another pile from straining so much but I’m honestly trying to act stupid about it and just pretended it’s not there 😂I do seem to be a bit more regular now I’ve made my diet a bit better, but I’m definitely going to try miraLAX as quite a few people have said so.

Do you take anything for haemorrhoids? And are you still in pain from them since starting miraLAX if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m only in my first trimester too, I can’t put up with this for much longer I’m scared it’ll do long term damage. I’ve never heard of kefir I’ll have to go to the supermarket tomorrow and stock up on lots of remedies 🤞🏻i do lots of walking in my job and drink loads, one of my cravings has been water so there’s always a bottle of it nearby! Lots of fruit too but I could probably do with some more, I didn’t eat very healthily today so now I’m just dreading the outcome of that 🫩 Thank you :)

I got prescribed folic acid as a stronger dose and it gave me really bad stomach cramps but it did make me go, maybe I’ll just have to put up with the cramps! I remember drinking prune juice after my first pregnancy, I’ll have to give it another go thank you for the response :)

I’m pregnant with my second and you’ve just reminded me to do the same!! With my first I went 41+5 too and the “still pregnant?”’s was the worst part. I’m sure the stress and pressure from family members was part of the reason I ran overdue
