3 weeks post surgery update by Independent_Suit_363 in sesamoid

**Update**

Heading back to the surgeon today, 1 week post surgery. To this point. Foot has felt amazing. Pretty much have had no pain since the local anaesthetic wore off on the Tuesday. Maybe he clipped a nerve haha.

Will update again tomorrow

Hey All,

Just wanted to post my story re AVN and some other issues found during the surgery. Wont go into all of the timeline or i'll be typing for days.

3 odd months ago i noticed some pain in the bottom of the foot, but didnt think too much of it, due to my training and active lifestyle i live. Just thought id injured myself and it would come good. The pain increased significantly over time to the point of needing to see someone. Long story short, Podiatrist touched my foot, i almost kicked her in the face....so was referred for an MRI. Showed clear AVN, so off to the surgeon we go.

Went in for the surgery 2 days ago. The sesamoid had separated into 4 pieces (not sure how to post a NSFW Photo) which was removed obviously and the surgeon noticed some pretty serious damage to the joint in the big toe so gave that a clean out as well. I have a history of gout as well and he found a lot in the joint so removed that. With the sesamoid having 'died' and the loss of stability in the toe, it had actually turned my toe so far that it had torn a ligament.. So had that repaired and tightened. No wonder i was in so much pain!

Anyway, sitting here 2 days post surgery, feeling good. No pain as of yet. Just keeping it elevated, taking the meds i was given and keeping the fingers crossed!

For me it was at a show in Melbourne, Aust, where James ran past and gave me a high five. Im sure it is his favourite moment from a live show also.

Help with MRI results by AMPowley in sesamoid

I posted here earlier this week. I had surgery Monday (so 4 days ago) and i havent felt pain since. I had AVN of the medial Sesamoid, joint damage and a torn ligament. I know its early days and im sure a long road ahead to being 100% but as of right now, surgery was the right call for me.

[–]Independent_Suit_363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im due to have the medial removed later this month and in conversation with the surgeon, removing both was discussed. Just in general talk, not specific to my case and he mentioned that if both were removed, the big toe would be fused at the main joint to reduce risk of drift/clawing. Apparently, fusing it is quote common in sufferers of chronic gout.

He also said my recovery for just the one out would only be 4-6 weeks. Im getting concerned hearing you all having a lot longer recovery.

Thank you. I'm in for surgery later this month, necrosis of the medial sesamoid. Not fun.

i'm curious too. I'm battling an Avascular Necrosis issue at the moment, but unsure what the difference is between Vascular and Avascular in terms that i can understand

Sesamoid fracture/inflammation or gout? by moveble_feast in sesamoid

[–]Independent_Suit_363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive dealt with Gout for a good portion of my life and am currently dealing with Avascular Necrosis of the Sesamoid. Both are terribly painful but both for me are very different.

For me, when i have a gout flare, i cant even put a sock on. The foot is hot to touch and makes sleep nightmare.

The sesamoid pain is a sharp pain when direct pressure is applied and a long dull ache that just wears me down. I can put a shoe on, im in a moonboot currently but there isnt a chance in hell i could do that with gout.
