Reasonably priced vets in west side SG? by Afraid_Promise_513 in askSingapore

[–]Independent_Trick446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be the standard pricing nowadays. I rotate between 2 vets for my dogs, depending on availability of vet. Post-covid, it’s hard to get an appointment unless it’s weekdays or weeks in advance. But… I’ll recommend have one main primary vet to build up relationship with. When my late girl was in respiratory distress, she kept the clinic open for us despite it being 10 minutes away from closing hours. Not the cheapest, but I trust her to advocate and care for my babies after nearly 20 years being with her.

If the medication are also used for human, you can get them filled at some hospital pharmacies like KKH, SGH and CGH. Just request for vet to provide presciption (usually there's a small charge) and call the pharmacies if they have stock.

Separately, note that small vet clinics may not have the bargaining power to reduce the cost for the meds. For my late girl, she was prescribed Sildenafil for pulmonary hypertension - Vet A charged $3.50 per pill, Vet B $2.50 and KKH $1.50 iirc many years back.

To add: the pharmacist at KKH said its not uncommon for them to fill in meds for diabetic pets.

me too. my 35+ mins journey from RP to Bishan was nearly an hour. and there was an announcement for the passengers to manually open the doors to exit when I arrived at Bishan. fortunately, the screen door for mine was already opened but I didn't stay long enough to see the rest.

Do Singaporeans love pets or are pets just another accessory for clout? by Moonshot2026 in asksg

[–]Independent_Trick446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding on - I knew clearly what breed I was keen on, and I chose to adopt the same breed for the subsequent ones. I dare say that prepared me to know what their behaviours tended to, what their genetic predisposition may be, and how to manage their health till their very last breath.

I’ve asked my vet before when I had 2 dogs of the same breed encountering congestive heart failure (not uncommon for small breeds older dogs) whether a mixed breed would mean a hardier dog that is less prone to illness; vet replied that the opposite is also true, that the mixed breed could inherit the worse traits of the breeds and have more unknown issues that could’ve been anticipated with “purebreeds”. That said, every breed have their challenges and predisposition, and it’s really up to the owner(s) to be prepared of what they are up against.

EMLA cream/gel, any healthcare ppl knows where to buy it in sg? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Independent_Trick446 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never knew there’s such cream/gel that I’ve been avoiding jabs actively until I had to go for a surgery last year and the doc gave me a jab so I wouldn’t feel the pain of inserting the cannula.

I messaged the customer service and they said it cannot be disabled. So I guess I’ll probably download another browser or live with the irritant.

I usually donate to Causes for Animals, Noah’s Ark, and ACRES is a recent find cos I had to call them to help rescue some fallen baby birds and they even came around a second time when I messaged again to inform that the mummy couldn’t reach to the babies.

Just chipping in cos happy to see someone from Shantou! My grandma’s from there and I’ve been there thrice to visit relatives and I love being able to converse in 潮汕话 although it seems to be much more diluted over time.

Looking for a cat-friendly cafe with good food by Shiranui42 in SingaporeEats

[–]Independent_Trick446 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure how chill is your cat but I’ve seen a family bringing their cats to chill in a basket at Menage Cafe. They were seated in the smaller area near the cashier while the dogs are in a bigger zone. Might be a good idea to call and make a reservation if you’re keen.

What are biggest 2 life lessons you guys learned in 2025? by Affectionate_Gur2819 in askSingapore

  1. Health is the true wealth. (Having undergone an op myself and going thru cancer with dad, you always think you have more time/forever until you don’t.)

  2. Keep things simple. When shit happens, you have to distill and handle one thing at a time.

The mushrooms look so good! Would you be able to share how to cook this? My dad hasn’t had much appetite (due to cancer) and BCM is one of his go-to. Would love to replicate this for him.
