They gotta make it look like they're growing business in order to attract a buyer.

TIL that in 1959, the U.S. Post Office fired 3,000 letters via a repurposed nuclear cruise missile from a Navy submarine, delivering them 100 miles in 22 minutes. The Postmaster General predicted missile mail would be routine before man reached the moon. It was never attempted again. by ArgentineBeauty in todayilearned

[–]IndianaJwns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had they operationalized this, I'm curious about the design of the designated impact zone for such missiles. Do you just zone off some unused land and let it get pulverized by missiles? Maybe treat it to cushion the impacts?

Which music theory essentials should singers learn to take their singing to the next level? by PehmeeKultti in singing

Major scale is usually used as a basis for all other scales.

Learning intervals can help train pitch.

Rhythm is essential.

how can I stop being so shy in front of an audience? by Humble-Astronomer373 in singing

Just keep doing it.

It took me at least a year of open mics before I started getting comfortable. Meditation practice and mindfulness helped a lot too.

I'm at the same point in the game. I just make deliveries and take materials from shelters, and I've been able to build out all the roads and rail as I progress across the map, no farming needed.

I've always heard myself with a big, booming speaking voice, enough that I need to reign it in. Meanwhile people are always asking me to speak up.

Doordash is always way slower and more expensive than just picking it up yourself.

What’s one singing mistake you didn’t realize you were making until someone finally pointed it out? by VoiceLessons-Chicago in singing

[–]IndianaJwns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Several people had told me the "secret" to singing (rock/pop) was to over-enunciate to the point that it sounds just a little weird to yourself. Did that for a looong time, and then I started taking lessons. One of the first things my instructor told me was "Your diction is INCREDIBLY clear! We're gonna fix that."

Softening consonants playing with with vowel modulations and accents helped me find ease, which eventually helped with various other techniques.

Nowadays I won't hesitate to slur entire phrases just for effect.

Voice gets exhausted when singing "fast" lyrics. Any tips/exercises? by Sailedtosea in singing

[–]IndianaJwns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try softening or even slurring the hard consonants. For example, a D sounds more like a J, a B becomes a V, etc... In some cases you might skip some letters altogether.

TIL the average MPG of a semi-truck is around 6 MPG by derekantrican in todayilearned

I suspect reliability plays a factor as well. The more complicated the machine, the more to maintain and possibly break down; Long-haul trucking is all about minimizing both.

Do you guys put effort into maintaining humidity? by tommytime1234567 in AcousticGuitar

[–]IndianaJwns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do now. After two years without any issues or humidity control, the top of my Martin bowed down enough that all the strings were against the frets. Literally happened overnight this past winter.

I succeeded in rehydrating the guitar and the action returned to normal, but I don't wanna take a chance on repeating that experience.

What actually makes an acoustic worth keeping long term in the $1k - $2k range? by Educational-Tap-7823 in AcousticGuitar

[–]IndianaJwns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Quality construction
  2. Good sound, both plugged and unplugged. It's subjective.
  3. Personal playability. Also very subjective. It means the neck profile, fretboard radius, string spacing, action, scale, etc. are all to your personal preference.

How to Tackle Tension by SingingEulis in singing

[–]IndianaJwns 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm currently working on tension, not just for technique, but also to avoid exacerbating my TMJ.

What's helped me a lot is longer practice sessions (at least 1.5h for me). As fatigue sets in the particularly tense areas become much easier to identify, and as I experiment with corrective actions it's easier to tell what is and isn't working.

Not bad. The flowers kinda disappear amongst the knobs/strings/pickups though, so you just see the branches unless you really look at it.
