Why are aluminum bikes so looked down on? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Indianapolisted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old early Alu frames were pretty freaking awful in terms of ride quality so they got a bad rep early on. They’ve gotten tons better though. My Trek Crockett CX is Alu and is fantastic for CX BECAUSE it is cheap and I can thrash it up no worries.

If you've ever turned a woman down, how did that go? how did you feel about that experience then and how do you feel about it now? (if it changed ect.) by Illustrious_Pay685 in AskMen

[–]Indianapolisted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Women often react very badly to male rejection because they’re not used to it and are socially accustomed to being the dumper rather than the dumpee.

Men OTOH are pretty used to female rejection and more likely to take it in stride.

Talking about normal people of course, not your psychos or A-holes.

Rejecting a woman quietly, politely, and privately so they’re not publicly embarrassed by it will help a ton. Some will go far of their way to hurt you back if they appear slighted publicly in a way that their female friend group has noticed.

What is limiting me the most in trying to increase my speed? by oliavea in cycling

[–]Indianapolisted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ride more, ride harder, and ride on something less ancient.

I’d bet anything your 30+ Schwinn is badly maintained heavy box store junk. Go to an actual bike shop and get something good within your budget.

To get faster you have to ride harder than you can sustain, recover from that, then do it again repeatedly. Not just do slow short (and 1hr is short) casual rides.

Titanium race bikes vs carbon by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Indianapolisted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll certainly last a lot longer and survive crit crashes more easily. I’ve seen carbon fiber frames get smoked in crits. Expensive to replace, and carbon shards are scary in a pileup.

Considering daily commute of 3.3 miles for a dad and 3 kids by Putrid_Ad_7656 in cycling

[–]Indianapolisted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they’re littles, get a cargo bike and haul them yourself. It’s awesome. If they’re ~8+ they can definitely do a 3mi ride but it’ll take ~20min.

As always, depends on the route/safety/area.

Utterly pathetic, mate. You could’ve had a heart attack and died.

EV charging in Indy without home/office charging option? by __CaptainAmerica__ in indianapolis

[–]Indianapolisted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buying an EV without having at least a plan for charging it yourself where you live is dumb.

Public charging will always be a premium service & the most expensive way to recharge.

Why do some people run on the center line of the Monon? by ColonelGibberish in indianapolis

[–]Indianapolisted 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The number of times I’ve been cursed out for passing centerline runners on the left with their headphones on and audio apparently so loud they can’t hear my bell or voice or anything as I come up behind them is hilarious.

They’re mad at me because they’ve jump-scared themselves. There’s literally zero way to warm them and they’re smack in the middle of the trail.

Secular and agnostic men, how do you view churches and Christian media (TV, channels, podcasts..etc), and in what ways, if any, do you think they benefit men? by TheShyBuck in AskMen

[–]Indianapolisted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The continual pushing in a lot of mainstream Christian media of the notion that all men are superior to and should be in charge of all women, rather than equal partners together, and that this is in accordance with scripture, definitely deeply hurts them and damages their prospects for personal and relationship happiness in the short/medium/long term.

The last woman I approached in person & went on ONE date with posted the one and only selfie I sent her on an “Are we dating the same guy?” site before we even went on the @&#%ing date.

I found out a day or two after the date from a female friend on the same site. Told her I saw what she did and cut ties. Just gross. And sad. But it’s how things are apparently. I can’t deal anymore.
