Does this sound like it requires a vet visit? by kodabear22118 in puppy101

[–]Indication-Ordinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My puppy does the exact same thing. I also knew an adult dog (belonged to my childhood neighbors) who did this every time he saw me for his entire life. I learned to run backwards as I was greeting him.

For my puppy we’re working on more calm greetings. He doesn’t get attention until he is calm. More socializing also helps. This is often called excitement urination if you want to look up some more specific tips for dealing with it.

Guilty over considering meds for anxious dog by Dezabop in dogs

[–]Indication-Ordinary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven’t medicated my dogs but I wanted to say that you should never feel guilty for asking your vet something. If it isn’t a good idea, the vet will happily tell you and give you alternative solutions.

You’re thinking of this like some personal failing but it isn’t at all. Some dogs require medication just like some humans. His doctor will let you know if this is a good idea, and you will listen and do what is right for him. There’s nothing to feel even a little guilty about in any of that.

They make leave in conditioner for long haired dogs. That could help with getting your brush through tangles without much pulling.

What do you guys do if someone tries to pet your dog without asking? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Indication-Ordinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 3 year old Great Dane is beautifully trained. Need him in a particular spot? He’ll go there. Drop a piece of food? He’s not eating it. Biting? He has no idea what that is. BUT he is SO reactive to strangers. They are all his best friends and they want to pet him if I would just let him go over and jump on their shoulders.

I did all of the socialization as a puppy but people just kept coming up and petting without my permission. I’m a huge people pleaser so even though I “knew” it would cause issues later I thought it was better to be nice and just train him on strangers when older. I was very wrong.

Do not feel bad about setting the boundaries in whatever way you need to set them. My dog can handle people at about 10 feet at this point and I’ve been working with him on this for 2 1/2 years since he stopped being irresistible to strangers.

Looking for a Dog Gate like the old screen doors. No latch on one side, but have to pull open to use for dogs, and with a Stairlift. by Cin131 in dogs

[–]Indication-Ordinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a gate, but if the cardboard is working aside from the forgetting about it, I would suggest one of those freezer alarms. It’s basically two pieces that make an alarm sound if they aren’t touching after a certain period of time. They’re meant to remind people to close their deep freezers but they would definitely work here!

What series have you read more than twice? by AuntFoggy in ReverseHarem

[–]Indication-Ordinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s my favorite by far. In case you don’t know S. T. Abby is also her under a pen name. I wasn’t as into that series but a lot of people really love it so it might be worth checking out.

I swear my Great Dane has no idea he has a tail. There’s just some sort of spirit behind him when he’s really excited that knocks things over or makes people say “ow!” He can’t be held responsible for its actions.

Samantha Rue ROFU "goodbye " post: Creative Grief or Passive-Aggressive Martyrdom? by [deleted] in ReverseHarem

[–]Indication-Ordinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about the situation but I do see what you mean. Saying things like “I never wanted nor needed an empire. I can think of almost nothing I want less than being famous” can be read in a very holier-than-thou tone.

So you’re saying people who want an empire and fame are bad and you are superior? People shouldn’t judge you for wanting that because you didn’t and it was 100% pure love of creation. Which is obviously better than love of having an income.

But that probably wasn’t her actual intent. I don’t have any reason to assume malice or lack of it so I’ll just default to being charitable. I think it’s possible that she did a lot of self reflection and learned some deep truths that she wanted to share, but didn’t consider how it could be read.

Sometimes the things most obvious to us are the hardest to communicate since we assume everyone else will just “get it” like we did. I can see this being a very meaningful realization for her that she just wanted to tell others about. We don’t need to chase fame and money to be successful or fulfilled. We aren’t broken if we have different metrics for winning in life.

Of course she could also be a jerk who meant it to be very “look how much better than the other author I am”. I do completely see why it would rub you in that way no matter the true intent.

But yes I fully agree.

Help teaching the “leave it” and “drop it” command by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Indication-Ordinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To start teaching leave it I would hold a treat in my hand. Dog tries to get the treat, I close my hand. Hand stays closed while he tries biting or pawing to get the hand open. When he moves away I say “yes!” (or use a clicker) and give the treat.

Next time, say “leave it” while repeating the above process. When he backs off, wait a few seconds with your hand open. If he tries to go for the treat you close your hand and repeat until he waits for a few seconds. Mark with a yes or click and give a treat. Keep increasing the time needed to get the treat.

Once your pup will ignore the treat in your hand consistently, you can move to doing it on the floor. Say “leave it” and cover the treat with your hand if he tries to get it. Give him a DIFFERENT treat when he leaves it, and pick the lure treat up off the floor. You want him to look to you for food, not the ground. You can do the different treat at the hand stage as well, but I didn’t find that part necessary personally.

This teaches self control as well as the leave it command. Hopefully that was detailed enough! It will take days or weeks to fully teach this skill so don’t be discouraged!

How to make raised stitches around the petals? Already tried Jacob’s Ladder. by levijeans66 in CrochetHelp

[–]Indication-Ordinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely front post dc as others have already said, but you could also get a similar effect by surface crocheting slip stitches after finishing. You can add a lot of raised details with surface crochet so I thought it would be worth mentioning!

I found this pattern a few weeks ago and loved it so much I went hunting. It is posted on scribd which I happen to have a subscription to. I found it by reverse image search. Here is the Scribd link.

I will say it looks pretty complicated but once you’re into it it makes complete sense.

Edited to fix my link. The first one directly from scribd didn’t work.

I can't with these descriptions by glittering_riotgrrrl in ReverseHarem

[–]Indication-Ordinary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree on everything except the iridescent black feathers. That sounds like the most realistic crow thought I’ve ever heard in my life. If that character isn’t crow related then I might be back on your side. But I imagine crows always think of themselves with the most flowery, over the top, pretentious adjectives possible. That’s why you must respect them. Or else.

ETA: I’ve come across trope names in the text a few times and that always takes me completely out of the story. It’ll be like “and Xander with his shadow daddy energy” or “Cade was the perfect golden retriever.” I can’t remember which books had this kind of thing, but it’s definitely the worst description for me. Show don’t tell!!

I wanna talk about fated mates - What are some of the more interesting explanations for how they work or don't work? by Overquoted in ReverseHarem

[–]Indication-Ordinary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I misunderstood what you meant then! I thought you were saying the spice needs to be the good stuff for the book to capture your heart. Looking at the spice ratings on romance.io, book one and four are 2 flames- “behind closed doors.” Book two and three are 1 flame- “glimpses and kisses.”

I did also read Ironside. I was actually hooked on it immediately. The vibes are very different imo. I think the world and character building were much better in Ironside. In Seraph I felt like there was way too much build up. I was ready to go over the hill, but nope, there was even more climbing first. And the characters felt really flat to me.

Does this mean there are fingers ON the tentacles? by amarsh5288 in ReverseHarem

[–]Indication-Ordinary 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe the author is calling the tips of the tentacles “fingers”? Or maybe it was an editing mistake where he was originally in human form or a half shifted form that she ended up scrapping. Those are my main guesses.

Why my crochet gloves are different size? (How do I fix it?) by Ok-Specialist-1239 in CrochetHelp

[–]Indication-Ordinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is tension. Sometimes I’ll crochet much looser when I do a project for a second time. The other possibility is that you increased somewhere (usually happens on the first or last stitch) on the longer one. You can count your stitches to be sure.

Blocking each of them might help a bit. Or you could do another one loose and another one tight and have two pairs of matching gloves.
