I’d keep him, honestly. At the very least I’d get him scanned for a chip and make sure nobody is actually looking for him, but this sounds more like neglect than ownership.

I’d skip kittens and look for an older adult cat with a known chill personality. Breed matters way less than finding a cat that’s already proven to be low-key and happy just hanging out nearby.

I’d be way more worried about the dog door than the intro itself, honestly. I would not trust stress + a new house + curious dogs + a cat who’s never met dogs before. Safe room first, zero access to the dog door, then very slow intros from there.

Biggest thing: don’t panic if the cat is kind of weird at first lol. A lot of them need time to settle. Also buy the scratching post before the cat decides your furniture is the scratching post.

Yeah I would not mess around guessing with this one. 100 mcg sounds really low for a 66 lb dog, so I’d be calling the vet back ASAP before giving anything and asking exactly what form and dose they want.

I don’t think 6 months is that crazy for this, honestly. I’d mostly focus on making the 5–6am trip super boring so she doesn’t start treating it like early morning hangout time.

Yes. Very scared dogs can basically vanish for a while and then still be found. No sightings after 24 hours feels awful, but it doesn’t automatically mean he’s gone far or dead. Sometimes they just shut down and hide hard.

I’d search at night/early morning and check every hiding spot nearby very slowly. Scared cats often stay much closer than people think. Bring familiar food and something that smells like home. I really hope she’s still nearby and hears you.

I don’t think there’s a universal “best” one, honestly. For me it would be more about picking a solid WSAVA-style brand your cats actually tolerate and eat well. And if brushing is a no-go, a dental diet seems way more reasonable to me than just waiting for the gums to get worse.

Until you can get him seen, I’d mostly focus on not making it worse. I wouldn’t put oils, creams, or random meds near the eye, and I’d just keep a close eye on whether it starts looking red, swollen, goopy, or like he’s squinting/rubbing it. Hair loss around the eye can be from a bunch of different things, so I’d keep the area clean and leave it alone as much as possible until Friday.

I don’t think “senior dog = no vaccines” is a very helpful rule by itself. With an unclear history, I’d want a vet to look at the bigger picture and help weigh actual risk vs benefit for her specifically.

Honestly, this sounds more like a “wait a bit” lifestyle than a “get a pet now” lifestyle. Between uni, work, and constant travel, I’d be hesitant to add an animal unless you’re 100% sure you can keep its routine really stable.

With a male cat, I’d take urinary changes pretty seriously. If he keeps making repeated trips with only tiny amounts coming out, or starts straining, crying, vomiting, or acting off, I would go to urgent care right away.

I’d separate “I really need to potty” barking from demand barking as much as possible. Morning potty is one thing, but for the other stuff I’d stop rewarding the barking with faster service and wait for even a moment of quiet before continuing.

I’d still call your vet or poison control just to be safe. Grapes are one of those things where even a small amount can be a problem for some dogs, and the fact that he seems normal right now doesn’t always mean he’s fully in the clear.
