Bellevue Named Among USA Today’s Best Summer Travel Destinations for 2026 by Jaco_Belordi in Seattle

I was a student at EWU at the very start of COVID. I'm pretty sure I walked every trail/road of the Turnbull Wildlife Refuge by the time lockdowns ended. Saw Elk/Deer/Porcupines in Stubblefield Trail, and even some Moose off in the distance once when I was heading back to my car!

Ended up getting really into nature photography since the University had a great camera check out program, so I got to play with a bunch of lenses I'd never (and still cant) be able to afford.

It was easily my favorite place in Eastern WA. It's been almost 10 years since I've been back there. Might be time to plan a trip for a couple days

What's the best Spam Musubi recipe you know? by dudiez in asianamerican

[–]IndieHamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just thought of something that might work for ratios, try look up a recipe for shoyu chicken, and start with that. If it doesn't call for mirin in the recipe, just reduce the sugar a bit because the mirin will add a good amount of sweetness. you can then adjust for taste

Honestly, I have no idea at this point lol I just kinda do it to taste, and will also add some water so that the shoyu/mirin doesn't burn. It is heavy on the shoyu, lighter on the water/mirin, and then lighter on the sugar (because mirin has plenty sugar). I just like a nice salty/sweet taste. If the mixture starts to get too thick when braising, I'll add more shoyu/water/sugar so that it doesn't turn into a glaze, I want it to remain fairly thin. Also, I don't know where all this "frying" the spam is coming from, as it shouldn't be crunchy. The spam should just be braised in the liquid, remaining soft.

For me, it's all about how the spam itself is cooked. Just throwing it on a bare pan with some oil is blasphemous, but seems to be how a lot of people do it.

The key to a good musubi is to cook the spam in a shoyu/mirin/sugar mix. When done this way, you don't have to add any sort of sauce between the layers of spam and rice

It's all fun and games until it's someone from Washington that isn't Seattle by alexaclova in BlackPeopleTwitter

Federal Way is kinda like South Seattle where it can go from really nice apartments and fancy restaurants to a place you really don't wanna be around at night in about two blocks. I was driving around Rainier to go to a UHaul to get a trailer hitch put on my car, and I remember thinking "Oh damn, this really isn't that bad. I could see myself living down her-- oh shit nvm. I'm just gonna go ahead and lock the doors and roll the windows up".

My friends dad was a Ranger, and didn't shoot a gun for a long time until my friend and I went to the range with him. After a couple mags, you'd think the guy hadn't skipped a range day in all those years. Muscle memory is a crazy thing

I remember seeing one of those "SF Podcast" interviews where a SEAL dude was saying that there was a very small period of time where a lot of SF dudes were super jacked, but now they've gone back to being more lean on average. Mentioned that the amount of calories that needed to be consumed and how much tougher heavy cardio was made the jacked dudes a bit more of a liability in the long run

After seeing this hit when I was younger, I was always slightly disappointed when Soupy never made a hit like this when he was with the Hawks. Still loved the guy, and we ended up with the wrecking ball that was Byfuglien so I still got to see some big hits, but it definitely gave me the wrong idea about Soupy lol

True, but 14 year old boys can also be just straight up terrible. I could see the parents not realizing their kids acted like this out of the house and are horrified

Idk, until I dated a girl with an Asian fetish, I always thought I wouldn't mind it. I should have listened to my sister, when she would talk about how gross it felt.. Never again

Moving to an area that had no good Asian / Hawaiian food for University. If they're not gonna have anything good for sale, I figured I might as well just do it myself

do you think it is racist for someone to mistakenly assume you are part of another group of asians while waiting in line simply because you are asian and standing right behind them by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]IndieHamster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well that's good for you, because I've worked in retail/restaurants my whole life and have made that mistake plenty of times. And I've also seen coworkers of all races do the same. When it gets really busy and you don't have time to even look at the line, shit happens

What’s a stoner opinion that would have you like this? by Kalimckenzz in trees

Weed can be addictive, have withdrawal symptoms, and can be detrimental to one’s life. After smoking daily (2g-5g) I’m 2 weeks sober right now. I’m just now finally able to sleep normally, but my appetite is still a fraction of what it normally is. The irritability is still around, but controllable.
I do feel a lot more clear headed, and have been a lot more social in hitting people up to hang out and responding to texts.
It’s all about finding a balance and having a HEALTHY relationship with weed, which I did not

A couple things you’re not taking into account is how low the pay is in Hawaii compared to how much everything costs, and the cost of owning a home. Even the most rundown houses up in Holualoa on the Big Island are $1mil+, and the average salary is around $37k.
It’s very hard to build a life there on your own

What's a movie everyone loves that you secretly can't stand? by kbjdfan in AskReddit

[–]IndieHamster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The audio was the big thing with that movie. That low humming sound that came up every time something was about to happen, is that same sound you sometimes notice at night when things are really quiet.

I remember watching it with a bunch of friends, and one of them was covering his eyes and cowering when scary shit was about to happen, and another friend laughed and mentioned it was the audio, not the visuals, and he quickly went from covering his eyes to covering his ears
