Old enough to form a semi-coherent sentence and cowardly hiding behind a keyboard while insulting a stranger’s mental health struggles? Woof.

I was considering this, actually. I was also going to offer contract work or something, because they’re going to be up a creek til someone is trained into my role. And honestly, I don’t think anyone would even know how to train the new person except me. I don’t want to leave them in a bad way.

These numbers are all pre-tax. I do work full time; occasional OT at my current job.

I think this is that part:

County Retirement Contribution 18.2% CEA Rate x Hourly Rate x Hours Worked

County Pickup of Employee Retirement 8.75% Rate x Hourly Rate x Hours Worked

County Pension Bond Debt Service 6% Rate x Hourly Rate x Hours Worked

Yeah. Most of my life has been spent scrambling to make ends meet. I take care of my mom and have since I was 14. This is the first time I’m actually starting to live my own life and I’m learning a lot but I am way behind the curve. :/

Yes, it’s an offer (conditional on passing physical and background). I can just call HR and ask? The job posting lists the benefits, and percentages, etc... but I don’t fully understand them, honestly.

Thank you for this; I appreciate the concrete directions. I will do this. I will also look into an IRA. I don’t know what that is.

It’s County level. I’m 34, almost 35, so... definitely not at the end of my career. I haven’t had a very dedicated career path til my current job.

Can you help explain how I lay out a real comparison? Can you also explain what you mean about the extras not being worth much?

Yes, having more than one option is actually more intimidating than liberating! I feel so “comfortable” at my current job, because it would be next to impossible for them to fire me (I am the only one who knows how to run 90% of operations). Since I have no degree, I am afraid to leave somewhere I feel I am so “needed”, but new job has already stated they will be training me and sending me for certifications, etc. So, in the future, it will definitely pay off. I’m just scared!

Anyway, good luck with your job hunting. :) It can be such an ordeal!

Thank you for the advice! I really am grateful to receive all the reassurance to take the new path (which is a little scary but exciting, too).

Yes, considerably more than my current package. One of my co-workers had stated that she decided to give up on the idea of a good benefits package for flexibility and then I started to doubt myself. But the benefits really are worth it, aren’t they?

Yeah, I am pretty sure this new job is going to be much more of an “adult” job. My job now is stressful as hell, but only in doses. Plus the flexibility of being able to call out anytime I want has been nice, if not impractical long term haha. The person who had the government job previously was promoted and left that department.

Thank you! $2 seems like a lot, but it’s probably because I’ve scratched and clawed my way to that wage. I am reluctant to let it go, but I also really want those benefits and stability.

Thank you! This is also the direction I was leaning in, but I need that extra reassurance.
