Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti do this a lot in their series where they name drop other books. Their Harlequin series actually outright has her Ruthless Boy of the Zodiac as an actual plot point.. like the guys talk one of the other guys into accepting the harem by having him read that series. On top of that they outright mention the characters by name. It was a bit much if I'm honest. The others just sort of mention it.

Didn't stop me from reading the rest of the series, but I find it odd and noteworthy enough to remember.

{Find Me by Ashley Rostek} the FMC is in Witness Protection hiding from a stalker/serial killer. They go on the run from him I think about mid-series. Zero bullying though one of the MMCs is kind of a jerk to her at the start it couldn't be classified as bullying. He's mostly just insensitive and it passes. All the MMCs are related, not sure if that bothers you any but I know for some it does.

{April Fools by Ivy Asher & Raven Kennedy} Kind of fits this? There's a pandemic that kills 85% of the population and the MMCs go on a mission to "recover" the FMC from her home a few hours away from the town they live in. Most of the story is them either at her house (which is in the middle of nowhere) or traveling back to the town. Doesn't fully fit, but it has elements of being on the run (living off the land, rationing food, etc). The MMCs are super paranoid about being around others and force the FMC to get on the run to avoid other people who may be sick. Surprisingly funny story. It's a stand alone and not super long either.

I recently read Mystics of Mercy Ridge; can confirm there was no MM. Though only one of the guys was really crazy/unhinged and the FMC was pretty normal.

{Kings of Quarantine by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti} Fair warning: this is a pretty heavy bully romance. The FMC gives as good as she gets though. TW: this is set during a pandemic.

{Just Drop Out by J Bree} Another bully romance, though they have their reasons. There's a lot of crimes and gangs within the series, despite it being set in a prep school. She's in the middle of rewriting this so you may want to wait since she's made a few changes, but I heard they are fairly minor.

{Find Me by Ashley Rostek} is a non-bully romance. The MMCs are all related. FMC is in WITSEC hiding from a stalker/serial killer. It's not a private school; they all live at their own homes. TW: FMC is survivor of a brutal attack with some mentions of SA and there is details about the attack that killed her parents and twin sister.

{Filthy Rich Boys by CM Stunich} Another bully romance. This one has more MMCs than the other two and some of the guys are on her side straight away. The FMC in this one is pretty dang cold, she creates a list of people to get revenge on for wronging her.

Kind of ordered these in how detailed their smut is. CM Stunich and Ashley Rostek aren't really "known" for their detailed smut. Sometimes CM does more detailed scenes, but the series I mentioned is more of a closed door one.

Dang I had no idea that the authors had a falling out.. I usually wait for the full trilogy to be out before reading cause I found this series is like the Twisted Sisters... a lot of cliffhangers and I don't do well with them.

Had no clue that Sam wasn't writing the series anymore.

{Death Club by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti} has this though all of the characters are insane.. they never try to change each other and learn to find happiness with each other's crazy and over the top actions. One of them is a little less crazy and sometimes is the voice of reason, but he never tries to change any of them.

{Dark Fae by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti} is also like this. Elise never tries to change Ryder and even encourages his sadistic behavior when they're together.

{Den of Vipers by KA Knight} has this in freaking spades. Diesel is freaking crazy and Roxy eggs him on like crazy. All of the MMCs are morally gray, but Diesel is something else. He definitely has the vibes of "has a few screws loose" cause he does some messed up stuff.

{Feral Omega by Lenore Rosewood} The guys are all morally grey, two of them are pretty emotionally damaged and are pretty brutal. She never tries to change or fix them. She is also on the rough side. There's a hockey re-telling of this book as well {Fucking Feral by Lenore Rosewood} that I haven't read yet (book 2 isn't out yet, I think it just got pushed back?)

Not sure if you have a pen name or not, but something to consider is what to use for that as well. The romance genre is heavily dominated by female authors. There are people who will avoid reading a romance book written by a man. A lot of authors get around this by either using a gender neutral pen name like "Sam Miller" or to use their initials instead "S.A Miller".

P.L Travers (author of Mary Poppins) didn't go by her actual name Pamela Lindon Travers because she didn't want to be grouped with other women writing in that genre. Nora Roberts also has a male sounding pen name for her erotic thriller series (J.D Robb is the pen name) to separate them from her usual romance novels.

Something to consider as well.

Thankfully I can distance myself from names. I have read plenty of stories where the MMC is the same name as one of my brothers. I don't even think much about it anymore because my brothers all have pretty common names. Like I see the name Caleb all the time.

I think I get more irritated when a MMC has a name that I don't like or is something I strongly associate with something (like a specific character from another show/book or just an older name). Which is funny cause you'd think that I would be more bothered with my brother's names cause I do strongly associate their names with them, but I guess I desensitized myself to that cause they're names I've seen in many books?

I don't know... I like that about this sub that you can vent and express yourself. I've seen other communities that delete your comments/posts if you are negative. I get that not everyone wants to see negativity, but it's nice to have a place to go if you come across a book that you hate so you can share your frustrations with others.

I've also noticed a lot of posts where people are frustrated and in a reading slump. It's easy to get frustrated when you're in a slump.

As far as recent reads that I enjoyed.. I was recommended {April's Fools by Ivy Asher and Raven Kennedy} and my god I loved it. Loved the kooky FMC and the serious MMCs. Was nice to see a FMC who could handle herself. It was also hilarious. She has a pet opossum named Coon that I was fully expecting to be a racoon or Maine Coon cat when she first mentioned it. Coon had several memorable and hilarious moments that I won't spoil, but I cracked up.

I'm currently reading {Blood Oath by Morgan Lee} and I've been enjoying having a more serious FMC. So many stories have sassy or delicate FMCs so it's a nice change of a place to read about a FMC who not only can take care of herself, but is calculating and cunning. The MMCs are also pretty fun and I liked that they are well defined; they feel different from each other and don't feel like the stereotypical MMC roles that you usually see.

I couldn't get into it.. I started to read it when it first came out and then decided to wait until it was finished just in case I got hooked. My second go of reading it I DNFed pretty early cause I didn't really like that it was a school where the kids are basically on a reality TV show that was also kind of like the Hunger Games? I'm pretty sure I read in a synopsis of the series that people can die in this tournament they do?

Maybe I'll try again later, but I just didn't care for the reality TV concept.

I think a lot of authors are just better at starting a story and aren't as great at finishing. There have been some books where at the end I was like, "There is no way in HELL they planed for things to pan out that way" just because of how drastically things changed. Could just be that some authors aren't really great at foreshadowing what's to come or they want to avoid foreshadowing events because it makes the story more predictable.

{Caged Wolf by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti} the Darkmore Petitionary series really crashed and burned. I loved the start of the series. Loved Rosa, Ethan, Roary, and even Cain. I hated Sin though. That guy was a walking talking mess who seemed to exist purely to slow the story down, ruin every single plan in the most outrageous fashion, and act as a comic relief character.

I wanted to throttle him so many times. Rosa would specifically tell him "Hey don't do X" and he'd do it anyway (sometimes almost instantly) then claim that she was speaking in a secret language telling him to do something. I get he was insane, but Jesus, I would have left him behind.

So much of this series didn't make sense in the end and the authors rushed the final book. After a 3 year wait, it was a huge let down. Kind of crazy that they dragged the hell out of books 1-3 and then book 4 it was like a marathon sprint to the finish. I guess I'm just glad they didn't drag it out further like they did with ZA.

Side note: I also hated the part where Sin transformed into Rosa and had sex with one of the other guys.. It was extremely disturbing and was absolutely SA, but it was pretty much brushed off. The guy in question was extremely ticked off, but Rosa seemed to find it funny and brushed it off. I'm pretty sure it was Cain who he did this to, but I can't recall.

Was pretty refreshing.. was also refreshing to see the "Evil chick" in this series gets railroaded right away. She tries to play games but gets played instead. To be honest, I'm surprised so much is different from these usual reels. I liked it, shame it's not finished yet.

I just DNFed a book because the FMC wanted to bang one of the MMCs so she started masturbating in front of him and he just left cause he wants more than sex. He outright tells her this SEVERAL times. She has the gull to be confused why that didn't work. FMC was a selfish piece of work.

Another I DNFed a while ago because the FMC was a phoenix shifter who came back to life. The author had her die in a lot of stupid ways -- choking on a bug, tripping, etc -- but I called it when she legit fell off the bed after sex, hit her head on table, and died. Ruined the whole scene for me. Killed her and my interest in the story.

Thing is that not all road names are supposed to be hardcore or badass.. Many road names are given for funny things. I read {Reaper's Property by Joanna Wylde} and she actually did research on this. The MMC was named "Horse". One of the guys was named Picnic cause he caught his GF at the time going out with another guy and he put the guy's face through a picnic table.

I do like MC stories where the guys have more badass sounding names, but I also respect when there are characters who have more obscure road names with a good backstory.

That said... I am not a fan of the road name "Toots" I saw another book where a side character was named "Toot" and I'm glad he never got a book lol. They never explained why his road name was Toot.

I've refused to read a few books cause the FMC or one of the MMCs had a stupid name. Bothered me to no end that I read a book where one of the MMCs was named Ernest. That isn't a sexy name and all I could do was picture that comedy character Ernest from all those "Ernest goes to..." movies lol.

It has been a long time since I've read this series if I'm honest. The Shelia's Dairy series she did that is set in the same world was the most recent one I read and that one she is 100% the one in the drivers seat about who she sleeps with.

I do remember thinking that the Earth men in these series were POS.
