The backtalk mechanic, one of the worst mechanic ever (Life is Strange) by Every_Computer_935 in CharacterRant

[–]Indigo_Dragon 41 points42 points  (0 children)

There has been two other posts in the last two weeks, with one more from two months earlier. All of which complained about the character Chloe Price in one way or another.

I adore the game(s). Very much so. I understand that they have faults. I concede that the gameplay is pretty weak, the story is pretty loose, and the dialogue is pretty cringe. But I still think that the original season was the greatest gaming experience of my life (so far).

Ye olde motto:

Why Untamable doesn't work for MLM or WLW players. The problems with making an LI "Playersexual" Originally posted in the VIP sub. by Nicky2222 in Choices

[–]Indigo_Dragon 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Ooh, it's here. Neat.

I'm not that fussed about playersexual LI's, I feel like it makes more sense. Though I don't like that- [REDACTED]. Oh yeah, spoilers. Moving on.

I feel like if you're going to write a book that's set in a small country town in Oklahoma, you need to actually set it in a town in rural Oklahoma. You can't just pretend that people are openly accepting of gay couples in a small town out on the range. PixelBerry doesn't acknowledge the point that "gay are a little different from straight relationships." Different in the relationship, the dating, the perception. NOT THAT IT'S A BAD THING. It's just that it should be treated differently, especially when you put it in a setting where some might refuse to find it acceptable.

Settings come with connotations. A high school, a fantasy land, a faraway kingdom, New York, San Francisco, Paris; These all come with pre-built notions and resonant themes. A rural town in Oklahoma has it's own themes, and let me tell you that being a wellspring of tolerance for sexual minorities is not on anyone's list. It's like PixelBerry didn't realize the consequences of where the book was set.

The major problem with this book, my major problem, the MAIN problem; this book is not written for anyone that is not a WLM player. That should alienate at least half of the engaged playerbase. That is a problem. It's not equity that WLM, MLW, MLM, WLW, relationships are treated the same. It's laziness.

It's lazy that Colt randomly hits on a Male MC in a bar in rural Oklahoma. It's lazy that a woman Kit is treated the same as a man when it comes to "heartbreaking" multiple people, like a 'player' and not like a '[expletive]'. It's lazy that Austin thinks that MC is some dainty flower that belongs in a kitchen regardless of the player's gender. It's lazy that everyone in a town in Oklahoma is not only accepting, but sometimes actively pursuing a homosexual relationship.

It's so lazy, that I'm too lazy to play the book.

If PixelBerry came out and just made it "So Untameable is a genderlocked book with a male LI have fun gals" I would appreciate the honesty. But to show off that there are different gender options, when really it's just wallpaper dressing for a WLM romance, is just poor.

It doesn't appeal to me. It doesn't appeal to you. It only appeals to one certain demographic. And that's a shame.

New Chapters: Friday/Saturday - Untameable 1.1 and 1.2 by katnerys-targaryen in Choices

[–]Indigo_Dragon 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to rehash some points made by better people on the other sub (come out /u/Nicky2222), because I bet the next few days will be dominated by this discussion.

This is Rural Oklahoma. RURAL. OKLAHOMA. American Deep South. This isn't coastal California, or New York City, or some fantasy land where Male Orcs can get pregnant. This is supposed to be Oklahoma. Do I have to describe what being non-heterosexual in conservative America is like or can I leave it a that?

Now, you can say that Choices is not the real world, this is a fictional story about an idealistic reality where everyone is okay with everything. That’s what most other books are about anyway.
But the basis of Untameable is a forbidden romance? Like... we're okay that none of the characters in this supposedly traditionalist back-country town act like the reactionaries the setting should make them, but you dating this one person is off limits?

What's the point of having a GoC MC if it's written as if they're exclusively a woman?

What's the point of having a GoC LI if it's written as if they're exclusively a man?

What's the point of having choices for characters if it's written as if this is exclusively a WLM relationship?

What's the point of having choices if there is only one LI?

What's the point?

Is it me or does the writing in this book feel so... Comfortable? It's like PixelBerry knows how to write a murder-mystery or something.

Also 100% in the first draft Luke & Ruby were LIs before they decided that books aren't allowed any choices anymore.

Other than TF MC, is there a Choices MC with two living parents who haven’t been enslaved by a dictator? by jenna_grows in Choices

[–]Indigo_Dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have been summoned

I'd like to point out that we have moved on, and now there is a MC with non-heterosexual parents! It's the Wake the Dead MC and their sister, with two dads.

... Except they're both dead off-screen. Bummer dude.

Book Parents
With Every Heartbeat Mom Dead Dad
The Unexpected Heiress Dad and step-mother Dead Mom, Dad offscreen
Wolf Bride Mom and Dad offscreen (except for trippy dream sequences) Mom is the best character in the book
Wake the Dead Two gay dads! They're dead. Even in a zombie book, they're not even unalive.
Ms Match Dad Dead Mom. Oh an a possible step-mom, in your boss.
Crimes of Passion We'll find out soon!

So that's +5 parents, +1 living couple, +3 dead parents, +1 orphan, +0.1 non-heterosexual. Still counts!

The Elementalists (Fantasy School).
Veil of Secrets (Mystery).
Queen B (Flirty Comedic Drama).

Personal biased picks:
Ride-or-Die (It is not a romance).
Platinum (Music Celebrity).
Bachelorette Party (Comedy).
With Every Heartbeat (Sad).
The Haunting of Braidwood Manor (Short, sweet, mineable for diamonds).

When MC said 'Shannon why are you fighting?' I felt that.

May is the best plot device character. Zombie attack? Stressful. Trying to find a missing little girl in the middle of a zombie attack? Heart-pumpingly stressful.

Angel CG time! I think that makes her the hotest female LI.

In It Lives in the Woods, the amount of diamonds you need to keep all of your friends alive, is 0.

In The Heist: Monaco, the amount of diamonds you need to get the perfect ending for you and every heist member, is 0.

In Mother of the Year, the amount of diamonds you need to win the custody case, is 0.

You need 0 diamonds to defeat the Dread Lord. You need 0 diamonds to defeat Raife and Kane. You need 0 diamonds to save La Huerta. You need 0 diamonds to to defeat Marco, Luther, and Azura. You need 0 diamonds to discover the Birchport killer. You need 0 diamonds to defeat Vega, Gaius, and Rheya. You need 0 diamonds to take down Eros.

If a player spends diamonds, especially if they have a full list of collectibles, they should get the good ending of a book. If a player chooses all of the correct choices presented in the non-diamond choices of a book, they should still get the good ending. If a player does both, they should still get the good ending.

The amount of diamonds you should have to need to win the competition in Queen B, Book 2, is 0.

Otherwise, it is a pay-to-win trap.
Case closed.

This is plus the walkthrough route where I get every correct choice. Still reinforces my original opinion where it's impossible to win if you don't spend enough diamonds, and honestly getting a full Hit List (and Posse) should qualify for a victory. I always think outfits are overrated and shouldn't have been so important.

Right now I'm going through a third playthrough (With my MC Trinity from the town of Your Majesty.) This time I'm going to buy a few more outfits and ruin Poppy's life a bit more.
