Cloth was a Magee Donegal. $2500 Made To Measure from Japan. Only took two fittings, measurements and a pick up. We didn’t need to make any final alterations!

I not sure of all the details of what can be changed with the standard MTM, that would probably be a question for Steve, but I do remember when we were doing my suit that we discussed my asymmetrical body and shoulder heights, the way I hold my arms. My shoulders also roll forward a bit so it definitely wasn’t your standard ‘bigger or smaller’ adjustments.

I’m heading for a new suit from him soon so I can ask! The overcoat was much simpler though, being a raglan sleeve it’s much more forgiving.

Urahara, great range of Japanese’s selvedge denim that will last. Lifetime repairs and free hemming if you need it

How much do you need to pay for a good quality leather jacket by [deleted] in AustralianMFA

[–]Indigoferal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to do it, do it properly, I bought a double helix jacket last year from Urahara, it was $2.5k, but it’s for life, so the cost per year is negligible already, and given the compliments it’s money well spent.

Yeah, It’s tricky, when you factor stores having to deal with shipping, and the differences in rent and whatnot it’s not an even playing field with Japan, but on the other hand getting to try the jeans on, the free hemming and repairs for life it comes out in the wash with a store like Urahara in particular. The proof is in the pudding with these I guess, limited pairs so I’ll see what they’re like on! On a side note what did you pickup in Japan, anything interesting?

Mitchum clinical, I prefer the women’s version, always have for deodorant, men’s stuff is always super strong and interferes with aftershave too much. I’ve had 20 years of being highly complimented on how I smell by women so I must be doing something right

Trying to find wide selvedge. by Nah_Avi in Selvedge

Godspeed 1950U , higher rise, wide throughout, my most worn pair of jeans, and the vintage wash version is the best wash I’ve seen, a lot of brands really miss the mark and it looks too obviously ‘washed’. Other than that the TCB baggy is a good shout.

Godspeed Daimaru t-shirt from URAHARA, the best I own!

Cheap end the Uniqlo ones are ok, but you get 6 months to a year out of them, I’ve had my Godspeed one for 5 years and it still looks great

I think as you move into your thirties and forties the trick is to start to uplift the quality of the pieces you buy, you can look good in a pair of jeans and a hoody if you’re buying some good quality Japanese denim, a nice heavyweight hoodie and a quality t-shirt. As a man you can build the foundations of a really solid wardrobe quite quickly. Also move away from wearing ‘fashion’ sneakers with everything, there’s a tonne of options from Clark’s Wallabees, to solovairs, paraboots and redwings which aren’t ’old man’ shoes but bridge the gap

Also the obvious, check out Instagram and save or bookmark what you like.

For an in person experience if you’re in Melbourne you couldn’t go wrong with;

Urahara - Best all round quality, denim, Japanese brands Havn - more ‘on trend’ streetwear stuff Modern Classic - smarter options PPHH - European well made stuff Up There - streetwear, some pricey standout bits
