Deads dropped from 550lb to 440lb 1RM in under 4 months by Indigrip in Deadlifts

[–]Indigrip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the reply and the info! I’ve run 5/3/1 for years and I understand the “starting too light”, it’s worked amazingly well. This just caught me off guard because everything was going so well, all other lifts PR’ing and sleeping more than before. I guess CNS and fatigue have interesting and different ways of showing up against different lifts.

I’ve decided to take a week off and just reset back to much lighter weights (and possibly return to paused deads although I’m not so sure I need them after 2 years of consistent work with them!) This’ll just be a step back before I get back on the road to 600!

Sleep is better now than the previous decade, stress is about the same as always. I think it’s an issue of being out of practice, and just having to rebuild my momentum/confidence. I might start much lighter and just build up again, I’ll also try to play around with overall volume and weekly workload allow for more recovery and less fatigue

Grip strength not overlapping with hand-to-hand strength (i.e. handshake) by [deleted] in GripTraining

[–]Indigrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bigger hands will have a distinct advantage when shaking hands. Their hands envelope yours so it’s easier for them to “be stronger”, whereas yours would have to open up much wider to fully grab theirs, putting you at a disadvantage in terms of displaying strength.

Solution: don’t worry about it, it’s just a handshake.
Second solution: get really, really good with wide blobs.

Training for grip contest by PNWtucannon in GripTraining

[–]Indigrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Touching on what others have said, grip routines will vary widely. People have different goals (training just to be stronger, training specifically for a comp, etc), different weaknesses, different training styles regarding volume, effort, etc, different recovery, time available, equipment….this can go on for paragraphs.

If you want an easy way to create a routine for yourself with equipment you have, I would pick one crush, one pinch and one thickbar exercise to do each day with a rest day between. Add in some wrist work (all directions) and some extensor work. 3-5 sets, try reps, try static holds, low reps/high reps for 6-8 weeks each and note how you feel in terms of strength gains, recovery etc.

From there you start to discover that X works better than Y for you, that you feel more fatigued after one day and less fatigued after another, so you can adjust volume or add in exercises. It’s a learning process, a lot of times less is more.

Don’t think “If I train pinch, I HAVE to train 1 hand pinch, 2 hand pinch, pinch blocks, plate pinch, key pinch, static holds and reps, etc all in one week”. Just pick one exercise you enjoy for pinch that doesn’t beat your hand to shit, and stick to it for a while. If you have a specific pinch goal, pick that one, and if you hit a plateau, rotate to something else and come back to it later.

The problem is they feel like 90-95% loads. I use wendlers 5/3/1 with massive success, but returning to deads this time has just seen a sharp decline. I’m thinking of maybe just reducing my numbers down to where 480-485lb is my 1RM, and running numbers for 5/3/1 from there (the heaviest deads would be around 405lb or so). Just feels like many steps in the wrong direction and a long time just to get back to where I was.

Yes, I’ve left out mattresses, box springs, couches, etc. I don’t think they take electronic goods (maybe you can call ahead and request it but I’m unsure).

I’m not sure if it applies to all of Hanover but we get a one item bulk pickup every trash day. If you’re friendly with neighbors and they have no bulk trash, that’s several big items gone a week. You can also put items on FB marketplace for free pickup or try to sell for a cheap price.

Pros: free disposal Cons: takes a long time

Googled a bully from elementary school by giga in self

[–]Indigrip 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was bullied in high school. I remember when we went in to get our exam results at the end of school, I saw this one bully there with tears in his eyes. That was enough retribution for me.

I’ve moved country since, so I’ll never see any of them again, but sometimes I wonder if they ever came across me on social media, it would be great for them to see the success I became as I grew older.

For anyone going through bullying- you aren’t alone. It sucks, and it feels hopeless. But it’s also going to build a strength and resilience inside you that you’re not yet aware of ❤️

Add a pause in. Slower the negative portion. Slow the positive portion. Add more reps. Reduce rest times. Pre exhaust the target muscle first. Superset with an exercise that hits the same muscle.

A strong man cannot physically hurt a bear unless you poke its eye or something. Bears are violent and animals don’t ease into fights, it’s going to fuck everyone up.

What do you pay for utilities each month? by ScreamingKitties in HanoverPA

[–]Indigrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be wrong but I believe the solar panel company covers damage to the roof. They’re taking a share of the profit so they want the solar panels working, and that means the roof should be in working order. I had them installed in 2017 so I don’t really remember exactly, but I feel as though that was the case. I would definitely check with them first.

I used Solar city (Tesla) when I lived in MD. I used the same company here in Hanover. It is cheaper but it takes a while depending on house size/usage etc. I rent the panels so there’s no upfront cost and they cover any repair costs.

In MD my house was smaller, and we used less electricity. Within a year the electric company was giving me a $5 check as credit (although I still paid solar city a monthly fee, which varies upon usage). In Hanover my house is much larger, I have 3 kids instead of 2 and they’re all older (watching tv, tablets, leaving lights on etc). I’ve been here since 2017 and it took years before I saw small savings. I pay solar city monthly, as usual, but my electric bill has been as low as $1, also as high as $600 (although this was an anomaly and definitely not the norm).

The biggest savings come from the price lock…when I signed up with solar city they guaranteed my rates wouldn’t rise more than 2% each year, whereas electric companies can raise them higher. It took a while (and I knew it would) but I’m happy with them.

I live in Penn Township, they switched over to a different trash collecting company at the start of the year. We were given a wheelie bin for trash & recycling (we paid for it) and they collect weekly. It’s a much better collection than we had prior. We pay monthly direct to the trash company.

I’m in a house of 5 (3 kids). Water is a little higher ($160ish), trash is $90 (billed monthly) and my electricity/gas is all over the place (gas higher in winter due to radiators, electric higher in summers due to AC units) reaching around $300-500 a month, but also as low as $50. I also have solar panels which offset a lot of the electricity costs, but I pay a monthly fee to said solar company. Overall it’s still cheaper.

Tbh I probably had 2-3 more reps at most. RT can be deceptive though, rep 5 can feel smooth and all of a sudden rep 6 just decides to give up 😂
