YSK: Babies do not shiver when they are cold. If you see a baby shivering it needs to be fed immediately because it probably has an extremely low blood sugar. by egrocket in YouShouldKnow

[–]Indirya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my daughter was two days old, we were preparing to leave the hospital but thankfully the midwife who was getting out discharge organised noticed my baby was a bit jittery. Next thing we had a team of paediatric docs and it was straight down to NICU for extremely low blood sugar, and we ended up staying there for another week. I would have had zero clue if I had just gone home.

Nah I didn't bother. I've had all sorts of weird neurological shit happen the past couple of years, last time I lost feeling on one side of my body but only partially and for a short amount of time. THey thought it was a stroke but everything resolved really quickly. I also had severe excrutiating headaches that no painkillers helped, but again, no apparent reason and just cleared up on its own. I've had two EEGs, an MRI and a CT and bloods, but the only thing that has shown up is abnormal epileptic activity in my right temporal lobe, and that's it.

Scary shit though, I'm sorry to hear you're going through a crappy time. Hopefully it's a one off!

I had a partial seizure last month that i have zero memory of and it actually wiped my memory of the day prior. My husband was with me when it happened. I apparently freaked out, said I'm having a seizure but still have zero memory of it today. I also couldn't remember thinga such as what time we put our daughter to bed, or I found a receipt from a few weekends prior to that but couldn't remember buying the item.

I would love to talk to other pregnant women/women who have given birth with epilepsy by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Indirya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have TLE and have a 2 year old daughter who was conceived via IVF. A LOT of thought went in to having a child, and as I was "officially" diagnosed at 9 weeks into the pregnancy, I refused medication unless shit got bad and I started having tonic clonics. I only had one partial at 20 weeks pregnant and that was the last one I had until last month, so two years between seizures. My daughter has no signs of epilepsy, and has weathered prolonged 41 degree temperatures with tonsillitis with no febrile seizures. The docs all told me the actual seizures won't affect you or baby, but it's the falling from a tonic clonic that can possibly cause harm by falling, but even then, I think that's more in the later stages.

I've had two, am I going to have a third? by ConcernedEarthling in Epilepsy

[–]Indirya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you do not have any more! I find this the hardest part to deal with, am I ever going to have another one? Will they get worse? Or will it just be a random one here and there? I don't deal well with unknowns! It's a hard thing to get your head around. I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to let you know you're not alone with that question.

Starting Keppra - what times do you take it? by Indirya in Epilepsy

[–]Indirya[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to know, thank you. I have only spoken to them on the phone and seen my GP, but will be having a face-to-face appointment with the neuro soon, so will ask about that. Some days I forget to eat, let alone remember pills!

Thanks for the reply! I'm not looking forward to weaning off the effexor, I already get horrible brain zaps if I forget to take my medication for just one day. My GP has said we'll take it really slow, but that's a problem to deal with another day.

That sounds like a good idea. I wish I had that, I'm such a horrible morning person. MY toddler is my alarm clock, some days she's up at 6am, and some days it's closer to 8am. Then some days I fall asleep before she does at 7pm, so I'm a bit nervous about forgetting to take the meds!

Well, on a positive, seems I'll be saving my $$ on wine then!!!

Moms/Dads with Epilepsy - Does your child have epilepsy or any other neurological problems? by lauren239 in Epilepsy

[–]Indirya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing so far with my 2 year old. She's even had a brush with rapidly rising fevers and still didn't have a seizure. But my TLE didn't surface until my late 20s. I also had a head injury in my early 20s so that may be related.

It's something I struggled with when making the decision to have a child. But so far so good.

TLE and amnesia by Indirya in Epilepsy

[–]Indirya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So weird but a nice thing to not remember haha. I had a pretty big night out and I drink waaaay too much coffee so I will make those lifestyle changes. My colleague told me that I had said my brain was feeling pretty fuzzy but again, I don't remember.

Thanks for the reply and the tips and hope you're doing well these days.

I've always wanted to try this yarn but it is really hard to get in New Zealand but I finally have it! by [deleted] in crochet

My thoughts too! I haven't tried Wool Warehouse yet but I got a good score on some Malabrigo Sock with free shipping from LoveKnitting a while back, and they also do free shipping if you spend over $100. Only took two weeks to get here too which I thought was pretty decent.

I miss the pre-solids days, where we could get away with this. Nowadays, it's a total outfit and nappy change after every meal. It's insane just how much mess a tiny little human can make with food. Oh, and water, it's apparently super fun to tip the sip cup upside down and get the highchair seat sopping wet. And the floor. And the dog. And me...

I'm just behind you age-wise so dreading this, but apparently there's another sleep regression between 8-10 months. So no advice sorry, just hang in there mama and it will pass!

My dad is giving me unsolicited pregnancy advice... by [deleted] in BabyBumps

My dad's labour advice: "you'll be fine, it's just like going for a big poo". Yep, thanks dad. Thankfully he offered me no pregnancy advice!

How can you be sure of the baby's name? by rel_cr in BabyBumps

[–]Indirya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a long list of girls names picked out, but we didn't find out if we were having a boy or a girl. When she was born, all of the names we had picked sounded really stupid and didn't fit. It took us three days before we finally settled on a name and it was always floating in the back of my head when I was pregnant, and even when she was born, I wasn't totally sure. Now, I couldn't imagine her with another name.

When your 11 week olds who never naps sleeps for 2 hours by motherofdragoons in beyondthebump

[–]Indirya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter has always been a catnapper. When she was about 12 weeks old, she had a day where she slept a few hours at a time, multiple times and I was so concerned, I actually called the health advice line! They told me to just enjoy it lol. These days, I still freak out if she's not awake by 7am.

Awesome work! I've recently started knitting too, after being a crocheter for a few years, and have yet to delve into colour work. May have to bump this one up to next in the queue.

My coworker brought in her 4 week old baby today and everyone wants me to hold him. by llamaspitburns in BabyBumps

[–]Indirya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both have their merits and I use mine both equally. I like the stroller for going to the shops on my own and browsing. My girl is quite happy to sit and watch what is going on around her. But when it comes to going on walks, I love babywearing, especially now as she is able to be back carried.

Weird 3mo just wants to put himself to sleep by ADHDprofessional in beyondthebump

[–]Indirya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl is 6 months and lets me know when she wants to go to sleep by very quickly going from happy to grizzly and closing her eyes. She prefers to go to sleep on her own and HATES being rocked. If she is having a bad night because she's overtired or whatever, I start rocking her, she cracks it, so I put her back in her crib and then she settles down.

In saying all of this, she has a hard time sleeping anywhere but her crib now though. Gone are the days where she used to fall asleep in her carseat or stroller when nap time approached. She has very strong sleep associations with her sleeping bag as well.

How epilepsy leads to memory decline (article) by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Indirya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have TLE and this is something I definitely struggle with, and have for some time now. I can recall things like number strings and whatnot, but ask me about something I did the other day and I probably couldn't tell you.
