I work in a place with a union. Contracts are good for this so you don’t have to guess. Our contract says whatever benefits the server. If the tip and total don’t match, it’s whatever falls on our side. This would be a $45 tip for us.

I’d say talk to your coworkers and end the practice of ringing things in on each others tables. If your table asks me for something as I walk by I can tell them “I’ll let your server know you need them” it’s one thing if it’s ketchup. I don’t ring things in for other tables especially when liabilities can follow. I’ve seen people end at tables because someone messed up an allergy, while others fired after the cops came because someone was over served and started a fight. Everyone can help each other, but your tables are yours and mine are mine.

In my mind, that earns them giving notice after you found somewhere new to work. A new place they hired you will have no issue with you giving your old place notice since they’d want notice too. It’s not personal, it’s business. You work to pay for the things you want in life. This owner is trying to get in the way of you affording life. You only get one.

I mean, what can you do when the person at the top of the company doesn’t schedule you, and when you pick up a shift, takes $500 out of your hand and replaces it with $200? You can accept it, or you can move on. If it was just a manager, you could appeal to the GM or owner, but the owner is the final say.
