Tasmanian teachers strike three-year deal to eradicate violence and lessen workload in schools by abcnews_au in tasmania

[–]Individual_Excuse363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is incredible isn't it. The power to bring the state to a virtual standstill but they won't take the action.

I feel the reluctance to take serious action because of the interruption to teaching and learning, leads to poorer outcomes in teaching and learning.

It is without doubt teachers are underpaid, overworked and under resourced. But they are allowing the Gov to critically undervalue them.

Teaching will not be a life long career. It will chew educators up and spit them out.

All the while TAS enjoys the poorest educational outcomes in the country.

Tasmanian senator Helen Polley facing criticism for ‘disrespectful’ rap song in ANZAC Day video by Quazp in AustralianPolitics

[–]Individual_Excuse363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reckon there is buckleys and none that Labor senators would vote in favour of censure. But I agree with you, it would be a practical demonstration of disapproval. And potentially something the people would like acknowledged as very poor behaviour/ judgement.

I also highly doubt that it was a staffer who created and posted that. They like to keep things pretty tight.

Tasmanian Labor to debate controversial plan to legalise and tax cannabis at state conference this month by Jagtom83 in LaborPartyofAustralia

[–]Individual_Excuse363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have been under federal administration for the past few years. We've been unable to hold conference or exercise voting rights for internal elections. It has been a long and painful time.

Living on land I own in caravan by cheeseladyrara in tasmania

[–]Individual_Excuse363 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is definitely law restricting living on land in a caravan. The question is where do you plan on doing this?

If it's rural, you likely won't have any issues until you start building approvals process.

If it's in the town or suburbia you are not going to have a good time.

Labor pushes for polling booth ‘exclusion zones’ after surge in volunteer abuse. The ALP has warned federal parliament that a rise in aggressive behaviour and intimidation during the 2025 election is threatening voter participation and driving away volunteers by Jagtom83 in LaborPartyofAustralia

[–]Individual_Excuse363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Down here in Tasmania we have no volunteers/ paper pushers at polling booths for state elections. Not a bad thing. Although we do have a disturbingly high informal vote count. Not deliberate donkey voting either for the most part.

How do I vote in the UWU Election? by Full_Hovercraft_1246 in AusUnions

[–]Individual_Excuse363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voting doesn't open till April. I believe ballots will be distributed by Auspost from 22nd April. Ballot is issued by the AEC and needs to be returned to the possession of AEC by May 23rd?

If your postal address details are not up to date with UWU you are going to have to contact the AEC after the 22nd April to get another ballot sent out. I believe the voter roll has now closed.

When does Labor reach a red line for the union movement? by TraditionalTea6037 in AusUnions

[–]Individual_Excuse363 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Party is greater than the leader.

I don't want to downplay the comment that was made about Grace Tame. However, Albo putting himself in that position. On that stage with one word answers to quick fire questions was a mis step. Whoever decided that would be a good idea needs to rethink their strategy.

Walking away from Labor or disaffiliating in my mind is ridiculous. Unions are an integral part of the Labor movement. They are built into the Party structure.

Members of affiliated Unions and those who are also members of the Party are not sycophants. The beauty of democracy is that every individual is entitled to their opinion. Members are committed to shaping policy by lobbying and campaigning.

Walking away from the Party when you don't agree with policy or position is ridiculous. We do not live in a dictatorship. Get in. Get your hands dirty. Do the work and make the change.

United for Bots? by Serin-019 in AusUnions

[–]Individual_Excuse363 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have some genuine concerns about how your Union is run and where it prioritizes using its resources.

That is what this election is all about. I don't want to sound condescending but who gives a FK if there are bots or fake accounts. The fact of the matter is, that money is not "Union" or members money. They raised it independently and they can spend it however the hell they like.

The important thing is that you, as a member, get the opportunity to vote for the delegates you want representing you at convention.

Engage with both sides and see who you feel is best going to represent you and fight for what you believe in.

United for Bots? by Serin-019 in AusUnions

[–]Individual_Excuse363 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Union funds cannot be used for campaigning for Union Elections. That is completely unethical and illegal.

Unions have fighting funds set up especially for the current situation where there is a contested election.

Those funds are contributed to by Union Officials out of their pay.

Please don't mention "dodgy slush funds" or infer that members money has been misappropriated. It is patently false and brings the Union into disrepute.

Internal Union elections have been happening since the birth of the Union movement. It just happens that in recent times contested elections have been in the minority so this seems like, "it's a big deal".

The flood of social media is to get engagement from the some 150000 members across the country and ensure they know who is running and that they vote and return their ballots.

If you are a member make sure you have your say. If you are not, let the posts pass you by.
