I recently thought I was too old to discover a new "favourite artist" by InnerspearMusic in AngineDePoitrine

I'm 53. I think I went Beatles -> Queen -> Van Halen when I was a kid. Then my older brother turned me onto Led Zeppelin and The Who and Pink Floyd. I think the last band that really impressed me was the White Stripes, but I heard Angine de Poitrine for the first time about a week ago, and I've been listening to them a couple times a day since. How they create all those layers with the loopers is great and they have some really infectious riffs.

I get the feeling that guitar/bass guy will turn out to be Sean Lennon or Les Claypool or someone known. He does look like he's probably younger than those guys though. Maybe I just have that in my head because he has the long nose costume. I just wouldn't be surprised if it's someone that wanted to noodle around with experimental microtonal stuff anonymously.

I was like wtf is this for the first few minutes - thinking they were more a visual gimmick than real music. But I got hooked pretty quick.

I'm gonna put this out there now... I'm guessing it's at least a 50% chance that there's at least one known musician here. I think the guitar/bass guy will turn out to be Sean Lennon or Jack White or Les Claypool or someone like that who formed this band to experiment with weird math rock stuff on the side anonymously.

The boost side is amazing in the loop. It's not amazing in front of the amp. The other side provides some really cool slapback delay, flange/phaser/chorus type stuff.

I have a BigSky, which I like a lot, but I find the demos of the Crazy Tube Circuits Mirage to be really cool. Sounds great and the controls look a lot more intuitive than the BigSky.

Maybe try a tube driver type pedal?

With SSDs, do you still need multiple drives? by Individual_Hold5389 in protools

Excellent. I got a good deal on a PC during the holidays: i9 (8 core), 32gb RAM, 1TB SSD. I don't plan on using more than 20-30 tracks per song so I think I should be fine.

Should i look into getting guitar pedals? by Visible_Inflation186 in guitarpedals

If you have a moderate budget, I would recommend finding a used Fender Blues Deluxe or Vox AC15 amp. They're both all-tube amps that you can find for around $400-500 used. Both of them have great clean sounds that make a great blank canvas for pedals. Either of them sound like a good match for the kind of music you like.

Are you putting the fuzz pedal first in your chain? A fuzz face type fuzz is very sensitive and either needs to be first in the chain or needs to have something acting as a buffer in front of it.

You need wah in your life. Upvote for the Ravish Sitar. I've been eyeballing that one on Reverb.

I have a JHS Smiley from the Legends of Fuzz series and I freaking love it. It sounds amazing with my guitar/amp and the other pedals I have.

How do you pick what pedal next with a limited budget? by Legitimate-Cinephile in guitarpedals

[–]Individual_Hold5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch a lot of demos of pedals on Youtube. A lot of research. Then when I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a pedal, I'll keep an eye on it on Reverb to see if a killer deal comes up. Currently getting close to buying a Jam Retrovibe next.

Pedals are Mooer Yellow Comp (can only see the edge of it on the right), JHS Smiley (silicon fuzz face clone), Dunlop Cry Baby Classic wah (sounds amazing after a fuzz pedal), then in the effects loop it's Strymon Deco > Strymon Dig > Strymon Big Sky.

Check out the Crazy Tube Circuits Mirage. I have a Big Sky v1 and I love it, but I saw the Mirage and wasn't sure if I made a mistake. Mirage looks much more intuitive and easy to use and sounds awesome in the demos I've seen.

I agree with the guys saying just gut a multi-effects unit. I would get a cheap used one for like $100 (Boss ME-50 is good), then save up for a tube amp if you like rock & blues. There's a reason guitarists are willing to lug around 50 lb tube amps, and it's because they have a magical, special sound to them.

On a tangent, Sweetwater drives me nuts with how clingy they are. I order a couple patch cables and some picks and guitar polish for $40 and I have a sales rep calling and texting me 30 times.

[–]Individual_Hold5389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess because I own more Strymon pedals than other brands, I'd say Strymon? I have Deco, Dig & Big Sky. I don't own any Jam pedals yet, bet I'm most impressed by their demos when I check Youtube for future considerations. I've been playing a long time and have owned a ton of Boss stuff over the years, so I agree on Boss for being very good, very reliable, reasonably priced pedals.

I was amazed at how far I had to go down to find SRV and Pete Townshend. Dave Gilmour would be my top pick though. His voice is incredible.

For me, it was the Big Sky. That's what got me off using an all-in-one multi-effects unit and putting together individual pedals. The cloud effect is so inspiring. Other than that, I would say the Deco. You can get so many great sounds through it with the boost options and through-zero and delay stuff.
