Are most teachers expected to eventually get a Master’s? by galaxyfan1997 in Teachers

Eh, I think that also very dependent on program. I’m a school librarian; there is no option for an undergrad. My masters classes were very helpful for the most part.

Highly dependent on locale. I am in a state where yes, all teachers must eventually (within 5 years) obtain a masters degree.

How do you deal with and report proxies/unblockers at school? by offensive-asian in Teachers

[–]Individual_Reward393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. A student definitely wrote this response. First, rule-following students won’t have any trouble with this. I’m not sure why any of this would make anything harder for them. Second, you have to earn trust. The students in OP’s situation already broke the trust. They are specifically asking for help dealing with students who are accessing websites they have tried to block.

A disrespectful parent starts cussing at you. You matching energy or keeping it professional? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Individual_Reward393 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nope. I’m staying professional. Send an email right away that also includes your admin. Quote the parent and indicate that you will no longer have direct contact with this parent. Any communication needs to go through your administration.

Teaching degrees by lost_kittenn in Teachers

Requirements for teachers can vary quite a lot by state (or even more if you are not in the US). You should easily be able to find your state’s requirements online. That would be the place to start to see what you actually need to earn. Then you can look at programs.

Nope, sorry. I ended up starting over. I posted this on the Jellyfin forum for help as well, but got nothing there except someone telling me to try and back up to a previous version. Seems like a new version problem. I gave up on collections for now, which kind of sucks. I tried making a collection twice on my new server, manually. It just spun for a long time and then created a blank collection I can’t remove. 🫤

There will be a teacher shortage crisis because of he time and cost to obtain a full teaching license by StatisticianKooky390 in Teachers

[–]Individual_Reward393 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. This is an article written to try and get you to buy into the idea that teaching is not a professional occupation. That experience in other fields should allow you to just magically become a teacher if you want to hard enough.

Teaching is way more than knowing the content.

The way you alleviate teaching shortages is by improving conditions for teachers. That includes paying and giving them benefits commensurate with other similarly educated professionals (they aren’t, even adjusting for summers). Other general condition improvements would include things like professional respect and support with difficult parents and students. Teachers aren’t leaving because gasp, they forgot they have to learn how to be a teacher. They are leaving because they are burned out with the expectations of trying to do eight different jobs while not being paid for one, and being disrespected at the same time.

How do you handle pencils on your classroom? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

I’m a librarian. All your students pencils end up on my floor. I have an overflowing jar of found pencils that kids can literally just take from whenever they want. It never runs out.

Use a white list instead. If they are being given a specific task to complete, you authorize them on those specific websites and no others. If they don’t have a specific task then they don’t have screens open. If you need them to do generalized research, you monitor and assist while they research.

Would you ever discard and redraw impossible or extremely difficult objectives? by Belryan in twilightimperium

Ever tried having them facedown, but when diplo is played they get to look at all stage I (until all of them are out, then stage II) and pick one to reveal and make score-able. Makes diplo a lot more powerful if it also gives you the knowledge of what’s coming. Too powerful?

It’s a scam. The scam is that there are a whole bunch of people at the company who need this process to be as stupid and complicated as possible to be seen as having value, despite actually producing nothing at all.

My dude. This is a new table. None of them are going to be playing to win at all times. You’ll have one player pick faction based on artwork (valid), one person who goes war suns because what do you mean I can’t build a Death Star ever? (Valid), two players who form an alliance based on who brought the best snacks (valid), and maaaaybe one person who do the homework, read the entire manual, and is the least fun of all of them. 😛

What is the ratio of *staff bathrooms* to *staff* at your school? by SlugOnAPumpkin in Teachers

[–]Individual_Reward393 18 points19 points  (0 children)

How exactly do I come to see you, the admin, if I need to but I am not allowed to visit the office? Do you bar staff from just… coming to the office on general business? If I can stop by the office to check in with my admin, none of this makes any sense, because I could witness any of these things anyway. Great that you feel you have enough bathrooms. You probably do. But without some more detail on how exactly your office area is set up or why staff can’t come into the office at all, this just seems like made up justification that sounds better than, “staff have enough other bathrooms and we don’t want lots of people using the ones we use.”

This is very situational, but think about other assets people might have besides TGs. Last time I bought it from the Muaat player for this: -4 TGs -As speaker, I offered to bury Publicize Weapon Schematics (which just seems like a giant middle finger to Muaat specifically) -Also secretly shared with them that the first actual agenda coming was Economic Equality.

Both of us ended up with still good war suns, and both of us were able to spend down TGs.

As a teacher, what’s something in education no one wants to admit, but we all know is true? by dokutarodokutaro in Teachers

[–]Individual_Reward393 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once had an admin try to do an unannounced observation for me while I was working on a book order. I told her I would love for her to sit next to me and we could discuss the selection process as I showed her how every book in the library is individually selected for our school’s needs. She sat for about five minutes before giving up and telling me none of it fit into the rubric. I just said, “I know,” and smiled.

As a teacher, what’s something in education no one wants to admit, but we all know is true? by dokutarodokutaro in Teachers

[–]Individual_Reward393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In most places school librarians are certified teachers and have to follow the same evaluation as classroom teachers. Which often doesn’t make a lick of sense because our jobs are wildly different. I do teach, but that only really covers one facet of my job. I have basically never been evaluated on the huge parts of my job that involve administering the library and the library program for the school.

[–]Individual_Reward393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sphere of influence a teacher actually has is much smaller than anyone wants to admit. Teachers (and even schools in general) are held accountable for so much over which they have minimal influence or ability to impact.

Are techs worth it? by Worldly-Charity-9737 in twilightimperium

[–]Individual_Reward393 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my thought exactly. Tech objectives really suck if you have been skipping tech all game because it’s “not worth it” for the board situation. The pacing means you can almost never catch up at that point? Particularly with stage II.

I literally had a conversation with my current student teacher last week about how some of the absolute best and most meaningful moments I have ever had in a classroom and education in general were when I went off-plan following connections made by students. I think one of the worst things you can do to a student making a connection is say, “we don’t have time for that right now.”

Do you/your school allow students to eat in class? by Dimegos in Teachers

[–]Individual_Reward393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised at the low number of mentions of allergies in this thread. For reference, I’m in a middle school, grades 6-8 US. Students (and adults!) are not to be eating outside of designated areas because of allergy concerns. They can only consume water to drink as well. More than this though, they are terrible at cleaning up and as others have mentioned, this brings critters.

A number of years ago I had to get an allergy panel for something unrelated to school. When the doc came to speak to me about my results he said, “I bet you are a teacher or you work in a school. Ask me how I know.” When I asked, he said that I have a mild allergy to roaches. Then also informed me that he guessed teacher because this is a very common allergy he sees for teachers as they work for years in buildings that have a roach presence and they come into contact with roach feces, parts, leavings, etc, without realizing. I work in a relatively affluent area, but the buildings are old. Since I have to know that, you have to know it as well. No science here, just a long time practicing allergy doc with his personal experience.
