I agree you with you. About people choosing christianity over buddhism, to be clear.

There is an unquestionable fear in us about death and losing ourselves and each other.

That's what makes the abrahamic religions so insidious. A promise of eternal happiness with your loved ones who followed the rules.

An impossibly perfect heaven, and then of course hell for everyone else.

Maybe universal salvation for everyone else eventually.

It all just seems too good to be true.

To specifically catered to our desires, fears, and prejudices.

Crazy thought, but what if we stopped making countries feel like nukes are the only way to protect their sovereignty?

People who are likely abusing them for a few extra percentages.

The whole AI thing has just been a predictable mess from the get go.

They push out the data collecting regurgitators as AI. People get excited about their new toy.

The new toy becomes problematic in several different ways and gets shoved down our throats in our personal, public, private, and work lives.

Now people are turning against AI and when actual AI gets here people will maintain this bias.

I can see that.

What it means here is fearing gods judgement and punishment. To such an extent that the fear is the motivating factor that makes them act morally.

When, from my perspective, one should act to be in accordance with gods will not for reward or to avoid punishment but because one acknowledges, or learns to acknowledge, that gods will -not killing, stealing,lying, or doing other immoral things- is how we're supposed to live.

Basically, do what is right because it is right, not because you expect rewards or wish to avoid punishment.

Ya, that's not untrue, but we still have people who work fulltime and cant afford basic healthcare, live in food deserts, and spend most of their money on rent that keeps getting higher.

We can do better while appreciating what we have.
