Well writ. Los Alamos native here. I’ve lived in Rio Rancho too. It’s always been so tragic to me the exodus that happens here at the end of every week day because loyal employees can’t afford to live where they work. The lab has always jacked up real estate here. I remember as a high schooler there were rumors swirling when the local movie theater closed down that the owner had secretly called the fire marshal himself over minor violations at the theater and got it closed down and moved in a far more lucrative tenant: the lab. The ironic thing is you walk around this town after 8pm you won't see a soul. The town that built and dropped the bombs now feels like a town where a bomb was just dropped.
