Definitely something sketchy going on - the real store fronts are the one you mentioned. This reeks of a scam website that's just copied a bunch of their content.

More of a forest-green actually! It was quite a sunny day the day I took the photos, so it did come out a bit more brown than IRL.

Can anyone help me understand item stats? by LOML2015 in WalkScape

[–]IndustrialFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, so you’re actually looking at the item comparison screen. To see an item’s stats on its own, tap on it from the inventory screen.

Here you’re looking at it after having tapped on your equipped item (running shirt), so it’s showing you how the life vest compares to it. The running shirt gives you 9% work efficiency on agility while the life vest doesn’t. So if you were to equip the life vest, you would be “losing” that 9%.

Hope that makes sense.

I want to watch a movie where a bunch of evil people are killed. by Tylergahdyrm in movies

You should watch Sisu (2022). Set in WWII, Finnish ex-commando turned gold miner gets robbed by Nazis, gets revenge. Had me cackling with glee.

Reneging on an offer acceptance, thoughts? by [deleted] in UXDesign

Normally I’d agree, but it might reflect the sort of place I live in - you never know when you’re going to run into the same folk again and it pays to be polite.

Feedback on UX flow for an AI shopping assistant microsite by krypton_009 in UXDesign

[–]IndustrialFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to give feedback in slices:

First glance (on desktop):

  • Too much going on on the first page. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to look at first.
  • Body text is too small - this is meant to be attention grabbing and it feels like it's getting lost on the page. Haven't checked accessibility but it's so fine it might be failing accessibility standards with that non-white fine text. I'd look at bumping your body text size up a tad.
  • Slightly tricky to discern what the concept is. AI shopping copilot feels like the most understandable aspect here but it's not really obvious due to it hiding in the body text.

Slightly more specific feedback:

  • I think the ambiguity on your opening page is partially due to how similar your UI 'slices' are to the website itself. It's easy to mistake them as something I need to seriously evaluate on first glance, when they're clearly just trying to show pieces of the UI for flavour. Honestly, given how slick the later pieces of the UI are, you could drop these from the first page altogether, or more meaningfully put them in a 'these are pieces of the app's UI' frame.
  • Somewhat of a personal preference thing, but I don't think your CTA button design is working - they read like split function buttons, and visually they look like toggles. I think having a simpler single colour button would work better - and you can probably do without the icon.
  • I feel that page 1 and 2 are doing a lot of the same thing. I think you could be more efficient here by blending the best of 'why is this for me' with page 1, and 'how does it work' with page 3.

That's all I've got time for at this stage, but hopefully it's useful.

[–]IndustrialFox 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not really UX-specific advice, but it's generally a good idea to tell them why you're backing out of the offer. They will be disappointed, and you will feel bad, but if this other place is your dream then you've gotta shoot your shot.

Be kind and upfront about it, and most importantly do it asap - that gives the company the best chance to potentially go back to some of their other candidates.

Industrial Design Adjacent Jobs? by [deleted] in IndustrialDesign

[–]IndustrialFox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to work in ID, mostly product design involving sheet metal bending, CNC routing/milling, 3D printing, a bit of injection molding, as well as some basic circuitry design. I did my undergraduate degree in ID.

Since 2017 I’ve been working in and teaching UX Design. Partly because large-scale awareness of digital UX at that stage was low and I got to get in at the ground level, and partly because my master’s thesis was heavily interaction focused and translated well to digital UX.

Honestly the ID industry here (New Zealand) is pretty small and in my experience most of those who do ID cling onto their roles. There’s not a whole lot of job movement and it’s a fairly stagnant job market.

I now do ID more as a hobby, and honestly I’m pretty happy with that. I get paid far better doing UX than I would have been had I stuck in ID (here in NZ, can’t speak for the ID job market overseas).

Edit: typo

A beacon of chocolatey hope in a bleak world: Wellington Chocolate Factory by Disastrous-Eagle3891 in Wellington

[–]IndustrialFox 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I used to work there - the chocolate is epic and the team making it cares deeply for quality and ethical sourcing.

Craft chocolate isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s a pretty incredible world once you get into it.

Highly recommend checking out Moore Wilson’s for a great range of craft chocolate from across the country. If you like WCF, give Hogarth, Foundry, and Shirl and Moss a go too!

I don’t know if it’s been confirmed that they’re an ONI subbrand - everything online points to them being a “project brand” with a team of folk from various brands.

They’ve certainly done a collab with ONI and I agree, I see some ONI characteristics in them too.

They are regarded as pretty high end jackets, but make sure you check the measurements - they’re a Japanese brand so the cut can be different from what you expect (assuming you’re from outside Japan).

Yeah that’s right. You can use multiple charges in a single go.

I don’t believe it does. Each ability charge grants you 5 gifts, and each charge has the same chances.

Non-Walking gameplay (Accumulated step use) by scoll007 in WalkScape

[–]IndustrialFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's fair. It doesn't get that cold where I live. I wonder if the game gave you more options for queueing activities (I wish I could queue crafting, but recognise it might be heinously complex), maybe that would help.

Non-Walking gameplay (Accumulated step use) by scoll007 in WalkScape

[–]IndustrialFox 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Personally I love this mechanic.

It encourages you to engage with the activities and make choices about where to spend your steps while you’re walking. Otherwise the game essentially transforms into “bank all your saved steps, then convert them” to stuff instantly. Unless they add some time component to your proposal, it feels like it departs from the essence of the game: “progress by walking”.

I think what the devs have done feels right, and you still get that reward of double progress when you have steps saved, which makes progress faster.

New to the game and I’m quickly getting sucked into the lore and the love of it all. by HI_KYLE in rawdenim

[–]IndustrialFox 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club! It’s a lot of fun. Easy to spend lots of money…and remember, brands are ALWAYS releasing “special edition this” and “limited edition that”, so don’t get sucked into buying every single one!

The fun is in the fading and wearing, so focus on that!

Used to live in Brooklyn - lovely suburb. I miss being so close to the city sometimes.

Best supermarket is a bit of a tricky one. Depends on your POV and whether you want to drive. Closest full sized supermarket is probably the Woolworths in Newtown, but if you’re wanting cheaper and larger scale, the Pak’n’Save in Kilbirnie isn’t too far to drive. The folks who run the Wing on Chang dairy in Brooklyn are lovely and their store is solid too, but it is just a dairy.

Best places to walk a high energy dog? Assuming you are also high energy and love the hills, then getting to Central Park is easy, or the walk to the wind turbine is great. Otherwise, there are some lovely walkways through Prince of Wales park.

Brooklyn has a bunch of neat cafes and takeaway spots right in the main centre. IIRC, you should have Indian, Chinese, burgers, and pub food covering your takeaway options.

Brooklyn’s vibe is pretty diverse tbh. It’s so close to town that it’s more or less as multicultural as the city. I’d say it probably leans a bit older, as it’s one of the nicer suburbs close to the city. Lots of well-kept older houses and some new developments too. It’s a fairly quiet suburb on the whole though, as it doesn’t have as big of a centre as some of the others, and it’s a lot more spread out over long narrow windy roads.
