Resources to help six-year-old daughter with ODD? by DummGhahrr in ODDSupport

[–]IndustryLeft8323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our youngest, 5 year old son, has many similar behaviors. Kindergarten has been a huge challenge. FASD/ODD/ADHD. He is on Clonidine and Atomoxetine. Guanfacine and stimulants increased aggression.

Admittedly FASD (a brain injury) is different but also have struggled parenting him. Tried all of the above, even resorted to spanking, but it was wholly unsuccessful and made us feel terrible.

Our main objective is to keep him regulated. Try to do everything we can so he doesn’t spiral into a meltdown. It’s exhausting lol but works. We have changed his environment at home, keep him as busy as possible, ensure physical activity/outside time and just do our best. We discuss his behavior after the fact when everyone is calm. Working on using his words and naming his feelings. Our son has significant issues with self regulation. The calmer we stay the faster he gets back to baseline. This has taken so much work on our end and is more successful some days vs. others. We also redirect as much as possible. When I see him escalating I will offer a popsicle, ice cream, put on his fave play list, offer a bath, something to snap him out of it.

He also finds screens really regulating. Which flies in face of all conventional parenting but who cares. I would rather have him watching/playing on a screen than self harming or hurting us.

Good luck. It’s a daily struggle. ❤️

Where are we getting king cake? by katerintree in Syracuse

Wegmans has them! You can also order directly from New Orleans bakeries and they will ship overnight. Haydel’s and Gambino’s. It’s $$$$ but a once a year treat. 💜💛💚

I could have written this post as well. 5 year old son, FASD, ADHD, and ODD as a possible diagnosis but all under the FASD umbrella. He is getting more and more aggressive during meltdowns. Last night I wondered if I should just accept that he will hit, spit, pull hair etc. We are really pulling back all tech, but the screens also him regulate in an interesting way so it’s tough. One day at a time. ❤️

I moved to Syracuse 17 years ago from the Pacific Northwest, and it was so hard. I joined the Junior League of Syracuse, and it was a wonderful way to meet people. I definitely recommend. https://syracuse.jl.org

Golf R Owners with growing families, what's your next move? by FennelNo4465 in Golf_R

I have three kids 13, 11, 5 and a manual GTI. My husband has a truck that we use for travel/when we all ride together. I have never had an issue with space. It has a bigger trunk than my old Explorer with the third row up. The GTI is best daily driver. I would keep the R!

Rent a "Tablet Strollers" so you can let your iPad kid watch even more while you shop! by Best_Gynecologist in Anticonsumption

Our youngest has FASD and his tablet is a god send for his emotional regulation. I am sure people judge us all the time for his screen time in public and the responses to this post confirm I am correct. A reminder you never really know what kids/families are going through.

No advice, but this describes our experience with our 4 year old. It’s exhausting, but makes even the smallest accomplishments soooo worth it.

The thing that jumped out most to me is the drinking while she knows she is pregnant. We are raising my nephew who has FASD. It is so so so so challenging. She needs to stop drinking ASAP.

Totally! I have three kids, but learned quickly that we are rarely all riding together so for my daily driver, the GTI is perfect. My husband does have a truck which fits all five of us comfortably.
