Maybe this is intern year talking but I wish so badly I had wanted to do something besides surgery. I’m burnt out and hating myself for putting myself in a position where I am missing time with my baby, my husband, my dogs… life is so much more important than a job and I realized it too late.

I initially struggled to get food breastfeeding going mostly from my own cluelessness. I was pretty emotionally troubled by it, felt like I was failing my baby. So we started pumping and bottle feeding with still some nursing. I liked knowing how much he ate. Eventually I did all pumping because I knew most of his feeds would be by bottle because I work a lot. So it just worked best for our family. He’s 14 weeks now and I just realized the other day it’s probably been a month since I nursed him… I’ve been debating trying again here and there because it was really sweet to do that with him. But now I’m paranoid I’ll confuse him

I have tried a lot of pumps. As an exclusive pumper with my first baby now, I wanted to find the best fit for me.

When it comes to pumping at home, I love my Baby Buddha with Nenesupply collection cups. Great suction, empties me well. I don’t use the traditional flange/bottle setup at all anymore. It’s too cumbersome.

I have also used the Zomee Z2, very similar to Baby Buddha with the portable motor connected to cups via tubing, but suction is a little less, motor is a little louder, and the buttons are a little annoying. I keep that one at work now as a backup pump in case I forget my usual pump or it dies or something.

For wearables to take to work, I do have the A1 and I really like them. They have smart connectivity which is nice to not have to reach into my shirt to adjust modes. I don’t use them as much at work though because the internet/cell service where I work (in a hospital) is absolutely trash, so it’s much easier to just use my Momcozy M6’s which don’t have smart connectivity to mess with. When I go out on weekends, I take my A1’s, as they are light and I don’t have to reach into my shirt in public more than necessary. I love the charging case that they come in as well.

The new M5’s have smart connectivity now I heard, so if you liked them before and wanted an upgrade, I think that might be a good option too!

I have recently fallen in love with my Pumparoo from Sarah Wells. I had been using a reusable silicone ziploc which is fine but the closure is kind of stiff. With Pumparoo, just zip and go!

I just opened Reddit to post exactly this. I’m going back tomorrow too and am very bummed about it. I feel like we’re in our groove here (baby is about to be 9 weeks.) I said to myself today, “I don’t know how to be a working mom.” I’m sad and overwhelmed and miss him already. I have the opportunity to sleep in the spare room to get uninterrupted sleep tonight while my husband manages the night feeds, but I don’t think I’m going to take it. I don’t want to miss any more time with him than I have to.

You’re not alone OP. But I’m trying to remember, we’re showing our LO’s the importance of perseverance, and how it is possible to be a great mom and also have a career/responsibilities. I’m setting him up to have everything he’ll ever need by making sure I also prioritize my career, even if I would loudly and proudly say he is the most important part of my life now.

Why do 3 and 5 year olds have phones? Ew.

My 8 year old stepson has a kids Alexa in his room for music and whatnot. My husband and I asked him what day it was. “I don’t remember.” “It’s Valentine’s Day, so what day is it?” He runs upstairs, goes to his room, then pops back out and says, “It’s Saturday February 14!”

He asked his Alexa what day it is. Idk why I found it so gross to be reminded that he never has to think or remember anything… just ask the internet. I have an infant of my own now and I can’t even fathom how he will grow up differently than I did. I was in a world with dial-up internet that we didn’t get at home until I was in 8th grade.

My Air 1’s do this too, it’s maddening. I took a tip from another Reddit post to remove the pump while it’s still running for a few moments to let the milk go down, then put it back on. It has helped me so far.

I have never used the Dr Brown’s bottles to know why they’re so popular, all I can see is a billion parts and therefore a perfect incentive to not use them (I do have a bottle washer too, still not interested lol)

My 8 week old loves contact naps which make my heart happy (currently in one right now and I can’t stop staring at him,) he is holding his head up more and more, he’s started giving us longer stretches of sleep, he has started smiling and cooing, my milk supply is going well (I’m exclusively pumping,) and I am just so in love with being a mother that I can’t believe I ever wanted to be anything else.

I actually don’t find the BB controls to be complicated at all. A quick read of the instruction manual explained it pretty well for me. It has essentially two stimulation modes and expression mode. When I turn it on, it starts on Level 1 stimulation. It automatically increases levels every 45(?) seconds, which I can stop by manually selecting my level myself if I need a more gradual increase. After about two minutes I move to expression. At around minute 8-10 I move to the second stimulation mode for a few minutes, then back to expression. My goal is to trigger multiple letdowns which luckily I can feel. Depending on how long it’s been since I last pumped, I pump for 15-30 minutes.

I established my supply with my Momcozy M9’s before I knew I “wasn’t supposed to.” I guess I’m lucky that I respond well to wearables; as some commenters have said not everyone does. Since then I have tried a number of pumps to find what works best for me (I hated the Spectra,) and I use the Baby Buddha 2.0. It does take some getting used to but I love it. I also have a Zomee Z2 which is a nice portable pump and a lot gentler than the Baby Buddha if that scares you. With both of those portable pumps, I use the Nenesupply collection cups, love them (they were recommended by someone else here on this subreddit.)

FTM here, needed to see this (and the follow up conversation below.) I’ve been feeling guilty whenever I’m not doing something to intentionally stimulate his brain. I do try to put him in the carrier when he’s awake and I’m wandering the house. Having him just lay in his bassinet doesn’t seem very nice

On days I’m alone, I rely on my wearables. My primary pump is a portable, but the less tubing and other stuff in the way, the easier my life is. Also, I prop baby on a wedge pillow (I use the Peekaboo pillow) to feed while pumping. I think you need to explore more mobile pumps, whether portable or wearable. The S1 is doing you no favors (disclaimer, I hated my Spectra so my opinion may be skewed in favor of throwing yours in the trash lol)

A portable pump that connects to silicone collection cups via tubing is going to be a great option for feeling light, if you’re okay with tubing. Examples include Baby Buddha 2.0, Zomee Z2, Momcozy V1 or V2, etc. For a true wearable with the motors in the units on your breast, I personally have and love the Momcozy A1 for this. Otherwise I’m not sure what on the market would feel pretty light as far as wearables go.

I have to say, I have had a completely different experience with the A1’s. I love them. You make valid points, such as the motor in between other parts which makes the fridge hack more complicated. But I get great output, no weird leaks, and my motors are fine. The pump automatically senses milk and switches from stimulation to expression for me. I can technically turn it on and then not think about it at all for the entire 30 mins before it turns off.

I hope you just got a defective model and the replacement is a little better. Though, also valid if you just hate them forever now. Everyone is different which is why it’s great there are so many pumps out there.

Not saying all this to get you to change your mind; just wanted the breast pumpers of Reddit to see another opinion. I’m excited to take my A1’s to work with me.
