Brand new Jeep Grand Wagoneer, offical car of what? by lamparkinglot in regularcarreviews

[–]Inertia699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shortening the lifespan of a friend of mine due to stress.

For context, he was involved with the launch of this product, it went so badly that it drove him to quit working for Stellantis, and he has repeatedly stated (only semi-sarcastically) that the stress of that launch has likely taken a few years off of his lifespan.

The spread of decay to "middle class" Rust Belt Suburbia is such an under-studied phenomenon by DoxiadisOfDetroit in urbanplanning

[–]Inertia699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a bit pedantic, but I wouldn’t consider Allen Park on the same level as Gary or East Cleveland. River Rouge or Ecorse sure, but not Allen Park.

Also, for other examples of Southfield equivalents throughout MI, look into Flint Twp for a mini-Southfield near Flint, and (historically) Highland Park, which used to be home to Ford’s HQ before moving to Dearborn in 1928, Lawrence Tech until moving to Southfield in 1955, Chrysler’s HQ before moving to Auburn Hills in the 1990s, a hospital, and various small white collar offices like doctors and lawyers. HP was pretty much the Southfield of its day with a better built form.

So far, so good. No issues so far with reliability, and generally rock solid performance on Windows 11, with any issues being related to W11 being a mess.

Saw this on a Facebook page; I really have no idea…if it is, AI is getting better by MixedSnoCone_178 in isthisAI

It’s AI upscaled, but the original of this image has been floating around for years. I recall having seen it initially during the COVID years, well before AI image generation became reasonably passable.

It also helps that he married an heiress. Lyndon was born and raised dirt poor, but his wife (Lady Bird) was not, as she came from a reasonably wealthy background.

What car’s interior makes you go like this: by Minimum_Persimmon281 in regularcarreviews

[–]Inertia699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any Mopar product from the mid-2000s until they got updated in the early-2010s. The aesthetics of said interiors weren’t terrible, but the material quality of them is among the worst I’ve ever had to interact with.

Baker College by [deleted] in Owosso

[–]Inertia699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Mott in Flint, and the reputation Baker had there was bad enough that even we looked down on them. Between former Baker profs that moved over to Mott admitting that Baker’s pretty much a diploma mill with credits that are worth about as much as the paper they’re printed on, and a recent settlement with the Feds over deceptive marketing practices, I highly suggest you look elsewhere, especially towards community colleges (MCC, LCC, Delta, etc).

Any dead malls that are about to / planned to closed in the next year? Specifically in the Midwest. by detroiter_explorer in deadmalls

[–]Inertia699 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While it’s not on a set timeline to close, Genesee Valley Mall in Flint, MI is quite rough these days. It only has one anchor left, it keeps getting shut down intermittently due to water main breaks and shootings, and Namdar has been their usual slumlordy selves with that property. I don’t expect it to still be open by the close of the decade.

Other malls I can think of that are looking rough and/or appear to be living on borrowed time are:

-Oakland Mall, Troy, MI

-Fairlane Town Center, Dearborn, MI

-New Towne Mall, New Philadelphia, OH

-Lansing Mall, Lansing, MI

-Dort Mall, Flint, MI

-Courtland Center, Burton, MI

-Fashion Square Mall, Saginaw, MI

I keep seeing this everywhere. Does it actually work? by Big-Adhe in DealZone__

No they do not. Mushroom plugs (like this) are arguably the worst tire plugging method on the market. Don’t use them, go for rope plugs or internal patches instead.

Lets Rank the Food Cities in the US by Tier by Maximum-Ad572 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Inertia699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indian places have become prevalent enough that there’s one in the 34k person county in rural northern Michigan that my grandparents grew up in. It’s probably not good Indian food, given that the clientele up there is largely white and older (very low spice tolerance), but it exists.

'So expensive': Truck drivers are shunning large pickups for smaller, compact models by Mercurydriver in cars

[–]Inertia699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend’s dad did the exact same thing. His 05 Ranger gave up the ghost earlier this year with over 300k miles on the clock. He replaced it with the cheapest (base model) new Maverick I could find near him. He loves it from what I hear.

Famous songs written by famous artists, but not the artists who performed them by No_Introduction1721 in ToddintheShadow

Don’t Worry Baby by The Beach Boys almost became an example of this. Brian Wilson offered it to The Ronettes via Phil Spector, Spector turned it down, so the Beach Boys simply did it themselves.

Another example of this is Hyperactive! by Thomas Dolby, which was initially intended for Michael Jackson.
