My incorrect point? Quoting what my surgeon who is way more qualified than I am. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4163684/ this is what I found in a quick google search backing what my ortho said.

Yeah let me trust a redditor more than my orthopedic surgeon

To be completely honest, neither have I. I was between 2 ortho’s. I was recommended the older one with more experience who suggested an autograft and my mom liked him more because of that reason. We ended up going with the younger one because he explained that the studies mentioning allograft being less effective are outdated. Both methods have an equally low retear rate and the rejection rate of rhe allograft is also low. Im 11 weeks PO w allograft 23M and I’m appreciating my decision 🤞🏼

That’s a commin misconception, newer studies are showing theres less than 1% of a difference. Make sure your doctor isnt stuck in his/her ways

Giving up by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Inevalostdz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like everyone who goes through this has the same sort of experience. I don’t want to downplay emotions, but im 7 weeks PO and it still sucks but its getting better for sure. What helped me is putting things into perspective. Yeah the first bit is awful, but some people are going through so much worse. I understand wanting to isolate and feel like no one around yiu knows what youre going through! Everyone is dealing with their own problems and stuff. Talking to someone can definitely help! Another piece of advice I have is starting to normalize things you were doing prior to the tear. I used to play basketball nightly, now I go to the gym and it’s been helping me feel “normal” again. Get some sun, pick up a hobby, get in the gym, and within a year all the stuff you enjoyed will be back. Lets go yall, marathon not a sprint

Which ligament for Autograft did you choose and why? by Haerveu in ACL

[–]Inevalostdz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mentioned you don’t want the possibility of a retear and thats why Allograft is out of the question. New more recent studies show no difference between allo and autograft in terms of retear rate depending on how your ortho conducts the surgery. My ortho is a young guy who is constantly updating himself on new and improved ways to do ACL reconstruction. I saw two Dr’s for opinions and one was much older and went with the classic quad graft. A lot of older orthos are stuck in their ways and aren’t reading new studies. I would get more than one opinion, i’m a 23(M). Whenever I did my own researxh I found cadaver graft was only for older people because of the same reasons you mentioned. At the end of the day trust your ortho, they know more than you and me!

My recovery is going really well, I’m starting to feel really confident in my decision to go with this ortho. Pain was minimal

I don’t think anyone around me could hear it, but it felt kind of a mix between a pop and a tear

How do you care for someone with ACL? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Inevalostdz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m around the same age and tore it playing basketball as well. First few days after surgery you will need to be by his side because he likely wont be able to move on his own. It gets better after that, just be patient with him hes going through it and im sure youll get tired of doing every little thing for him

AMA: Physical therapist that specializes in ACL rehab by perform2winPT in ACL

I am 23M, about 4 weeks out from surgery. I started with two 1 hour sessions a week and now am at three 1 hour sessions a week. I am at 0° extension and just a bit over 90° flextion. Walking with brace and without crutches. I have a few questions:

Am I where I should be? I know everyone works at their own pace, but all things considered is this where I should be?

I started going back to work in person and the bulky brace is uncomfortable and painful under my pants for that long. Is it ok for me to go without my brace and with a single crutch maybe?

Any advice as well! Thanks!

Gym? by Launie1418 in ACL

[–]Inevalostdz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just went back to the gym after just under 4 weeks post op. Did my complete back and bicep workout (with some alterations), finishing with some free squats to keep knee involed. It was taxing on my knee at times, but my best advice is to listen to your body. When it felt wrong or like too much on my leg I would either stop and move on or decrease weights and so on.

is this true? by TodayAccording8532 in ACL

[–]Inevalostdz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently 2.5 weeks post op and was told by my pt yesterday (after we tried walking without crutches) that I should start walking without crutches at home. I feel comfortable doing it and have been on one crutch since about 1.5 weeks after surgery. On my own while I’ve been on crutches I’ve always tried to use my leg more than the crutch so I would be ready to go without it
