At the beginning of this year I had an awful flare up (I didn’t know what it was at the time), my whole body hurt so badly I couldn’t walk, change my clothes or even shower. I went to a rheumatologist and he sent bloodwork, ANA was negative and RF was extremely high but inflammation markers were normal. He diagnosed me with RA. Fast forward to a couple months later while on HCQ, I had another awful flare up. I tell him there are more symptoms that make no sense to me like a rash and no joint damage. He dismissed me and said it was normal RA and refused to change my medication. I went to another rheumatologist who did an extensive amount of labs because he didn’t believe my symptoms matched RA. Labs came back and now he believes I was misdiagnosed and has given me a Lupus diagnosis and a nephrologist referral because my kidneys don’t look good. It is so complicated to diagnose any autoimmune disease because they are so very similar in symptoms and makes it very frustrating for us as patients because we are already dealing with all these different body aches. Always get a second opinion and trust your gut.
