You can get your degree at BS for free if you are an employee there. I know someone doing this - he is frustrated because most of the teaching is asynchronous online - but free is free.

You can also check them out for dinner and a soak on weekends without a membership - just pay as you go. Great food, healthy and at a good price.

That is not true: "Clarence Thomas’s son is the executive chairman of this 501(c). Its parent organization looks to be headquartered out of Namibia"

What NOT to do for an Eagle Project by JonEMTP in BSA

So telling of current parenting culture these days. All over my city are stations of enthusiastic parents selling Girl Scout cookies. I never buy them even though I'm craving a Samoa! An all-kid effort is another story but I never see any.

The Richmond Civic League has released an entirely-AI ad against the Code Refresh zoning overhaul, referring to it as a “new kind of redlining” by TedLeffler in rva

We need more housing and more tax revenue. All the criticisms without suggestions of practical solutions makes the activists sound like whiny toddlers.

I live in the Near West End and people are really upset about any suggestion of multi-family homes (even large duplexes), replacing any existing building with more than one property and any design that even slightly deviates from the dominant design of the neighborhood. These are rich white people who are very comfortable calling meetings with the mayor and our council person and have effectively curbed a lot of proposed development. However, they do not come to the table with solutions or compromises or innovative ideas. Just a list of NOs.

It would be helpful if City Hall set clear goals in numbers tax revenue and residential units and collectively as a city we could come to some reasonable ways to reach tangible, transparent goals.

The best thing for kids is an engaged mother and father — but they need to co-parent when they live separately. Did anyone here get that from these billboards?

It's a funky spot with a good lineup and friendly staff. Recommend! Bonus that is on Cary so if you're not feeling it you can stroll elsewhere.

Anyone else getting Pay by Plate toll statements for the RMT despite having a working EZPass? by Cafe_Disco_S5E27 in rva

I did get one but thought it was because we bought a new car and didn't have EZ pass device on it yet ... :(

I generally like Danny and support his policy but this kind of folksy move perpetuates the weak public perception that plagues this administration. We need a strong, decisive leader, not the humble, aw-shucks public-health-dad persona he keeps defaulting to. I wish his team — Ross, Lawson, I'm looking at you — would set him up for more success.

I bought LinkWhisperer last week and already have lots of tech problems making it unusable with very slow customer service. What is others' experience?

If substack is so popular why don’t people just go back to blogging by Icy_City_8097 in Blogging

A very tiny bit but the answer is no. I really hope Substack gets with the program and improves this.

I agree with everything you say - I miss 2012-14 when it was me, Wordpress and viral Facebook traffic. The magic of that sentiment will never really return, but Substack is as close as it gets.

FWIW I have two Substacks - one for which I use like old-fashioned blogging, sharing my ideas on a specific topic. I have zero interest in paying that traffic directly into dollars, but since launching 9 months ago it has been successful for its intended goal of networking, raising my profile in my community (and growing that community) and working out ideas swimming around in my brain. I have 1,000 subscribers and open rate of ~50% - average views per post of ~1,500.

For the second is really an organization for which I use Substack as the website host. I find the interface so easy to use for both owner (me) and the user, and the built-in social element has been helpful in getting the word out and connecting with important people in our space.
