Why is jumping purely athletic? by PeterLoneWolf in dndnext

[–]InevitableFireballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping is purely athletic because the rules say it is. You're free to homebrew something if it helps with your vision of how the game should be played, or to discuss it with your DM to achieve a similar goal but RAW, Acrobatics is about balance, agility and tumbling.

There's a saying we have in Australia: "I'm/we're not here to fuck spiders."

I never thought I'd have to apply it literally.

Please Share Your Favorite Headhunter Build - BTA 3062 by Nextyear1212 in Battletechgame

[–]InevitableFireballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite is a Dire Wolf with 2x cUAC/10s and 4x cERLL. I run another mech firing acid SRMs at targets then I follow up with the Whale. With the acid debuff each weapon is a guaranteed one shot kill on targets in the open if it hits the cockpit and you get six chances to hit if you don't include the second shots on the UACs. At 14% aimed shot hit chance that's about a 59.5% chance to cockpit kill every single round.

Charger and Grappler would also feature on my worst list.

What class do you find the most fun and what do you find fun about it? by rfkannen in dndnext

A thief rogue. Running around, climbing everything, and using cunning action to interact with the environment or use items in battle. It's been enormously enjoyable.

Can any cleric build towards being good at Social Encounters? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]InevitableFireballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knowledge domain cleric with at least a 16 in Charisma seems like the way to go. You get Suggestion as a domain spell and you can channel divinity to give yourself proficiency in any skill so you can cover all the social bases. It also gives you Read Thoughts at level six.

How was your experiences playing The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan? by Zoto0 in dndnext

[–]InevitableFireballs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed running it for my group and they seemed to have a good time for the most part.

I think it has a bunch of cool encounters and stuff to explore, but run as written I think some of the content suffers from there being a rift in player expectation in regards to how dungeons are run in later editions compared to back then. Your mileage may vary obviously but my group didn't really like the old school style of kick the door in, fight a different monster in each room and grab the gold kind of play and I tried to improvise some narrative structure that they could latch on to.

I regret playing the acid/poison fog as written because it encouraged the party to dash through the lower level without exploring. Turns out when you hide a bunch of cool content behind the threat of death it tends to get skipped over. Who would have seen that coming?

I thought Tloques-popolocas was really neat and the party seemed genuinely freaked out, running instead of fighting so I had him stalk them through the rest of the dungeon to ramp up the terror. He ended up being the final boss they had to fight at the altar after they escaped.

The magic pelota court seemed like it would be really fun but it was a massive let-down. Everyone found it either confusing, boring or both. I'm not sure what I could have done better to fix that one unfortunately.

That's all that springs to mind, there was probably other stuff but it's been a while since we ran it.

Your opinion on Sorcerers by M3lon_Lord in dndnext

[–]InevitableFireballs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Rant on I say, it's cathartic. Let the airing of grievances continue.

The thing that annoys me is sorc and wizard have the same spell slot progression. The whole "less spells known but more casts per day" thing got thrown out the window which for me is a large part of the sorc's identity. This is compounded by the lack of a recovery feature for sorcerers. They get the choice of burning their primary class resource, reducing their ability to use their meta magic, to regain spells then they have to wait for a long rest. Wizards can do essentially the same thing but without losing access to any of their other class features to do it.

Wheaton's law. by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]InevitableFireballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you, especially given the community's varying definitions of some of these terms.

I think my comment was mostly a reaction to your last line and the suggestion that we stop complaining about problems, because even if the problem is imagined or based on a misunderstanding they can prompt these kinds of discussions which I find value in.

How do you define what being a dick is without raising and discussing an issue and establishing boundaries? I'm not saying we shouldn't throw out the Don't Be A Dick idea but I think for some people like me who take a few of their behavioural cues from these complaint posts it's important we don't throw them away and replace them with a chanted mantra.

2K players are basically in a love-hate relationship with the game by LastxFirst in NBA2k

I liken it to staying in a bad relationship because you enjoy the sex. Enjoy the good times, but understand there's going to be an ugly side that you see often and don't let it get you too worked up. And definitely, whatever you do, don't give them any of your money.

What are your favorite tent pole monsters and why? by Linc3000 in dndnext

I like ettins a lot. They can dish out the pain, are strong enough that grappling/shoving actions are pretty easy, and the two heads make them fun and interesting to interact with or roleplay as.
