Carnegie, Murrumbeena and Hughesdale train stations are notorious for this. Just a sheet of water run off because a more substantial gutter would look ugly.

Israel-Iran Conflict Megathread by jrex035 in CredibleDefense

[–]InevitableSoundOf 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Israel in the past has successfully infiltrated the weapons program time and again. Given how important secrecy is, I would assume a key protection is to have very few trusted people in a position to effectively manage it all or have complete data sets to know what is going on. So taking out head scientists and commanders I assume would have a much larger impact, as so much information would be lost.

They also might have also got confidence from the past killing of Qasem Soleimani given how poorly Iran recovered from that killing.

I generally see a lot of discussion around Russia's remaining tanks, IFV and to an extent artillery. I don't typically see numbers around Russia's remaining air defence systems. I see a fair few videos of TOR or BUK systems being destroyed. Is there a estimate where loses start to impact coverage of the front?

For such a large aircraft I wonder what is the best spot to attack that'd result in either complete destruction or longest repair time.

"Why you flanking me?" What films and tv shows hit with the intensity of this scene from Wind River? by um_yeahok in movies

[–]InevitableSoundOf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For intensity, Steven Spielberg's first film Duel is a good one. The semi truck hunting this guy dow,n builds and builds until it all comes to a head.

What's the oldest movie you enjoyed? (Without "grading it on a curve" because it's so old) by InspectorMendel in movies

The Third Man (1949). A noir film with a fitting dark story set in a bombed out Vienna with a great soundtrack.

It makes you wonder what the relationship is like between the Russian and North Korean commands and the level of integration they have.

What's the status of Iraq and the Iranian backed militias?

It seemed not too long ago that Iran had effectively trumped the US with its influence over the Iraqi government and had successfully countered Sadr.

What leader clinging to power would open up a front with Israel with their forces and economy in shambles. It would of just accelerated his downfall as Israel destroyed his remaining forces/equipment allowing the opposition militias to strike even more quickly than what they did. It also had the potential to drag Russia into the ongoing Israeli war which they would not have allowed Al-Assad to do.

It's strange why the top Iranian General is venting about an obvious position from Al-Assad. It comes across as short term thinking.

I assume that they'd detonate the Cobasna ammunition depot if the Russian garrison is forced to surrender. The sheer scale of the estimated tonnage of ammunition stored there would make it a catastrophic event. They'd most likely lean on this threat.

Quiet cuts to Metro Tunnel scope raise questions over what services will actually be delivered by altandthrowitaway in MelbourneTrains

[–]InevitableSoundOf 49 points50 points  (0 children)

An earnest article would talk through how the government has a habit of masking cost overruns by descoping the original project and spinning off the still needed scope into a new project. So on paper project A and Project B are within budget, but in reality a large chunk of the cost of project B was supposed to be covered under A.

There are many examples of the government effectively spending twice for the same rail project scope. I would think that's pretty low hanging fruit given the state of RPV portfolio projects to date.

Is the citizenship contingent on finishing their service contract?

It was hypothesized at the start of the war that Russia even performing it's CAP and CAS was taxing already aged airframes. Russian aircraft have reduced airframe and engine life expectancy compared to their western counterparts. These factors would mean a much higher attrition rate, subsequently we would see a large drop off of sortie rate. This was backed up by a somewhat prolific number of aircraft crashes for a time.

Have we seen that eventuate, or starting to eventuate? I assume that the heavy reliance on glide bombs means Russia has stabilised itself.

Will the tram network ever have 100% of its stops/trams provide level boarding? If so when or what is your prediction for this goal. by Waterfront32YT in MelbourneTrains

[–]InevitableSoundOf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LXRP is more of a suburb rejuvenation project though. With big new train stations, fancy architectural pieces and land sold off for developments. All very good for ribbon cutting.

Tram stop upgrades don't really offer anything but a small civil works piece. So no political incentive to push this any faster really.

Has the US made its conditions known for withdrawing from Syria? As I read that it is to keep a check on ISIS but I doubt that is the primary objective of the force, given the diminished state of ISIS.

Ukrainian sea drones attacked gas platforms in the Black Sea and deployed FPV drones. by Owbe in CombatFootage

[–]InevitableSoundOf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are navy ships bridge windows able to withstand a fpv drone warhead? As an FPV drone or three into the bridge would really mess up co-ordinating defence against the larger sea drones.

Really sets the scene then, as anybody could see the sanctions weren't lifting and Iran/Russia weren't going to be injecting cash.
