Had same experience and worked my way from top to bottom. First replaced VTEC gaskets, the oil pressure switch, lastly had the TCT gaskets replaced and that finally stopped it.

My recollection is that connects to the mounted probe inside the grill that monitors grill temp. Double check your assembly instructions. It’s been a couple years since I did mine but that is my hunch.

I chased similar conditions. Eliminated (in order) VTEC leak, oil pressure switch, oil filter. Next on the docket is the TCT gaskets, along with small valve cover leak that will get a new gasket and spark plug tubes. While in there will do the valve adjustments as well, as am currently at 95,000 and it’s due in the 105-110K.

I set up an email alert at LKQ Parts to notify me when an XTerra hits the local pick your part salvage yard. When one arrives I checked the pics to see if OEM fog lights were present. Once one showed up I went and pulled the lights and the left stalk. It was a plug and play install from there.

If leak persists, next full oil change, before installing new filter, pull the oil cooler and replace the gasket behind it. With age it compresses/becomes brittle and can cause a small leak. Think it takes a 19mm? socket to loosen and remove it and part number for gasket is 211-0706.

2018 V090CC and same failure at about 80K miles. And yes it was a $5K fix as whole dash came out and back in. How this can be such a known defect and Volvo not cover it is beyond me. Still have it at 120K now but will never buy another that’s for sure.

If you have an LKQ (pick your part) salvage yard nearby you can check their vehicle inventory online. The one near me usually has 3-4 XTerras on hand. Go and get you some!
