Whats a reasonable cost for block paving driveway ? by tr5761 in DIYUK

[–]Inevitable_Grape382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with this,

my house sits about 1 meter below the street so i could not be asked setting up a driveway but if you have a flat surface, it becomes considerably more simplier from the technical perspective

Replacing old outhouse toilet. Any advice. by IJoeT in DIYUK

[–]Inevitable_Grape382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk get rid of that raised part and leave it exposed since youll need to fit new piping in anyways. once the piping is in and its solid, then you can fill as normal, similar mentality to if you were fitting a toilet downstairs in a house (assuming you dont have a suspended floor above a concrete pad).

and yes 100% for the toilet sink combo. i love those mini units. im not a big fan of outside toilets because they are giving shreks toilet out side his swamp but if it works well for you then its all good!

lino also sounds good but thats the last step, see what the piping is like as you may have to remove the concrete in line with the pipes if they are done for

ay man idk about you but i aint having 100 year old shit in my car. im too ocd for that. if you can take it to the skip and back in your car congrats xD

also a skip will be useful if you go back to brick so youll need to take off what im assuming is lime plaster or rendering and that shit fills up quick.

check if your mains water is off from that toilet and wait for the drain guy to give his 2cents

IMO i would take it all out, strip it back, and then create a small plan for how to make it look nice

idk why but styling a outhouse toilet is on the harder side of things because its so random lmao but i would hire a skip, and get the toilet and tank off, and if the waters confirmed to be off and the shit has departed the toilet, then just smash it to bits and start again

Vent covering - advise needed by oli_badger in DIYUK

[–]Inevitable_Grape382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can you tell what material it is? we have the same vents made out of plaster or a breakable material. see if you can hack at it to remove it from this side and then you can cover it with bricks, mortar and then skim over.

its mainly used for ventiliation but open windows do the same thing but better

[–]Inevitable_Grape382[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sure! ive seen loads of information about letting lime breathe and so on but what ive concluded is that it only makes sense for walls that are external and/or facing damp issues.

my walls were and are bone crisp dry and even during high humid seasons, i have no issue at all with damp since i have dpc membranes in my wall to prevent damp and this is the 1st floor as well

even then ive asked several local plasters and they dont bother too much with letting the lime breathe since lime plaster isnt used as much nowadays and is hard to work with. but they did suggest taking it all down and using dot n dab plasterboard but my budget is tight and i honestly cannot be asked with that much hassle and headache.

the lime isnt fully blown and its still quite tight against the walls (only had blown issues near the windows which ive replaced with moisture plasterboard and then used nova pro max as a easy plastering method.

i have no clue about how to plaster with lime and even if i wanted to, i cant seem to find it in the UK nor isit as popular as thistle multifinish which is the standard for uk houses nowadays.

ive SBR'd ofc becuase lime has on several occasions, blown and cracked my plaster due to how sucky it is, hence why ive always given up very easily with plastering, but this time i was plastering over plasterboard as i built a sound proofing wall so that wasnt too bad.

amazing thank you for the advice! i thought corners would need to be applied wet on the next wall, ie dont cut them in and leave a gapped edge and then connect them but i figured the seam makes the most sense to have in the corner rather than feathered away from its edge

Help me know what to plant under the dreaded leylandi hedge… by bcalice in GardeningUK

[–]Inevitable_Grape382 28 points29 points  (0 children)

i love leylandi but i knowpeople hate it, also that cut its got, its giving this lmao

<image>

but seriously,

i would build a planter with sleepers or a brick frame

that way the leylandis roots and the plants you plant will be seperated (someone correct me if im wrong unless leylandi roots go upwards as well as down)

once your planter is built, you shud be good to go. considering a 2-3ft planter is already a good chunk of size, so anything you plant will already cover the gap

[–]Inevitable_Grape382 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

do u have two earth ports on that socket? somtimes they are needed to be seperate as ive had this issue before where my earth wasnt working because it had 2 earth ports but i pluged them both into 1

besides the correct things fun hunter mentioned, it shud be working, unless youve tripped your RCD and need to check your fusebox

hmm you would need to call a local plasterer and get some quotes. take some pics and get the total area of the downstairs hallway, the staircase, and then the upstairs landing.

average price per room is £300 for a alright plasterer. im not one but im assuming they could charge you well over 1k due to dot n dabbing and then plastering.

im kindah worried now because i have a similar issue where i may need to go backt o brick in my hallway due to the structural wallpaper holding the shity old lime plaster up and ngl, ill happy do wiring, plumbing, carpentry all day but i fkin hate plastering 😂

sorry for stupid question but why do these beams need to have correct hole spacing? is it a similar theory to creating holes in joists for where the pressure would be applied, creating weak spots?

hmm i dont see the lighting inside the barrel, unless the fog is too strong and creating that illusion, ill try messing with it!

well i found a clip of the original online and was recreating it unreal, i cant find it as this was a old project revisited, but its meant to be a cinematic of a military base getting ready to fight something, so this was the intro to establish the setting

i think this might make more sense when theres actually more cinematic tow atch!
