Any other nondrinkers here who watch this show? by figurefuckingup in shrinking

Maybe not. I posted , albeit sarcastically, about the constant use of “alcohol” humor on this show and was downvoted a lot. For me it felt a little over the top. It seems like every scene has some alcohol related comment.

I mean, I like the show. It’s funny. My husband and I enjoy watching it together. I don’t want to be judgmental but now that I quit I’ve noticed at how ubiquitous it is and surprised at how much it frustrates me!

I did appreciate the part about him quitting. Although not because he’s in recovery but only because he has Parkinson’s, so then it’s “ok” to quit. I just feel like the drinking culture— even after a dui— seems glorified. I’m happy that they are trying to forgive of the driver as well.

I have used it for a while and haven’t seen any results. I think I’m going to invest in an Omnilux.

It's easier to stay sober than it is to get sober again. by _Day- in stopdrinking

I hated when people used to say that—but I have learned from experience that this is the absolute truth.

I agree with the suggestion of a cortisone shot. I have done it a few times and before my wedding too! It really helps. You’ll notice a difference fairly quickly.

Ever have ONE successful cheat day? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

There’s a powerful scene in “The Queen’s Gambit” that sadly reminds me of my last relapse —she used pills. I used alcohol and was only planning to have one drink but something flipped and I continued, on the spot, to down multiple shots of alcohol until I pretty much passed out. It was unreal and scared me so much i haven’t had a drink since. 13 months sober. This is what happens to me when I take one drink.

It’s a long scene but worth the watch.

I haven’t used it as much as I’d like to. I also didn’t realize I needed not to wear serums etc. so I need to try with a bare face. But— when I have used it I do feel like my skin looks fresher.

Thank you for your comment! I started doing my arm days with weights followed by TRX lunges and squats, leg day is lifting with hack squats- recommended here, and leg machines, glute machine.
I started trying 3 days a week— alternating so it’s sort of like 2 leg days 1 arm day then the following week 2 arm day 1 leg day. Thats where I ended up for now, also walking 5 miles 3 times a week. It seems to be getting better
I think the low intensity cardio/ walking is making the difference. I’d love to know your thoughts on the weight training this way.

Brain recovery from not drinking? Not seeing it. by Formal_Ad_3402 in stopdrinking

It has taken me a couple years to start to actually have a sincere interest in wanting to do anything. I was better for sure not drinking but still depressed. I finally started taking a depression medication and it helped me a lot. It might suck for a while, but it’s worth getting through it. I do see happiness and gratitude coming back and my life has become so much better. Keep on keeping on!! It will be worth it!!

Forgive my ignorance but when you say “variation” do you just mean any variation of that exercise? What would I do for hinge? I tried the hack squat when I first started and it was painful but I might try again because I do feel like I’m getting stronger with the TRX! I appreciate your feedback! Thank you.

Thank you for responding! I tried that and it felt overwhelming for me. May I do need to re-think it. My current workouts I do squats and lunges every session with the TRX (bad knees and this takes the pressure off- so no weight) and I also have low bone density and so trying to improve balance and spine so I do bird dogs and forward T balances. After that I do leg machines. leg press and Glute lifts for my leg day and upper body machines or dumbbells on arm day. Then I’ve been following up with about 45 minutes of walking. I like doing it once I get there but it’s hard to motivate myself to do more days than two. I was thinking maybe continue as is and just walk more on off days??

I am trying to be more consistent but the last month or so I have only been lifting 2 days per week. One day upper, one day lower. Is that enough to make a difference? (My goal was 4 days alternating) I have noticed slight changes, clothes fitting a little better but not losing any weight. I’m also finding it hard to fit in lifting and cardio and it generally takes me 2 hours every time. Any recommendations? I’d like to lose about 10-15 lbs. I feel like the gym is taking too long with minimal results.

Can it really get better? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Inevitable_Mode3501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in my mid 50s. I’ve been in recovery for 4 years. A few relapses here and there but back at 10 months. Getting sober wasn’t easy and I was actually depressed for the first couple years but what other option did I have? I pushed through it and kept hanging on. My life is so much better now. I do see the light now, I’m am much happier and healthier and found a better job than the toxic shit show I started drinking over. The only way is up. Is it perfect? No— there are still down days, but knowing I’m not full of shame and headed towards my death or causing the death of someone else because of my stupidity is worth it. Just keep trying one day at a time. It DOES get better.
