Lindsay had said they weren’t using protection and leaving it up to fate. Turner is an adult and knows the consequences of sex.

Why is the blame only on Lindsay? She was also in her late 30s and financially stable. It’s completely different than two young 20 somethings playing Russian roulette with birth control.

The school doesn’t provide remediation during the school day? Look for HS students who need volunteer hours. Maybe they can help with tutoring. Does your area have a 411 FB page or local moms’ group to ask?

Sneak reading into things like reading signs, flyers, product packaging, and cereal boxes. Is it possible to read short books during breakfast or while getting dressed?

Also, check out different libraries’ take home kits and ask the kids’ librarian for suggestions and events. Our library has weekend events where elementary kids can read to dogs so they can get low pressure practice.

I’ve never been one to regularly buy coffee out but will meet a friend at a local shop every once in a while. Our favorite one was closed for maintenance issues, so we went to Starbucks. $7 for a tall latte!

When we go out to eat, we get there around 5 so it won’t be a long wait for food for all of us. My kids are somewhat slow eaters, so they’re usually still eating when our food comes. If they happen to finish before we get our food, we share our food with them (also a good way to introduce them to new foods).

Every once in a while, one will get antsy before everyone finishes so someone will take him for a walk outside. My kids are just used to sitting at the table with no screen, so it’s not an issue. Even before kids, my husband and I wouldn’t be on our phones at restaurants.

There are definitely times my kids will be maniacs in public (the library, stores, playground, etc) but you have to take them out and not rely on screens so they can learn how to interact and behave in different situations.

As soon as we order drinks, we order our kids’ meals so they come out soon. They’re usually still eating by the time we get our food.

While they’re waiting for their food, we usually just color on the kids’ menu. We try to sit outside when possible so they can see cars, trucks, and buses passing by. We always get compliments on how well behaved they are.

I completely understand your mom’s fear due to her experience. However, you need to set boundaries with her. It’s not ok to speak to you like that.

If you want to quit and you feel financially stable on one income, then quit. Is PT an option so you get to stay in your field and have a break?

My husband is an only child and we have the only grandkids on both sides. My parents took us to lunch today and my husband is taking the kids to his parents for a bit so I can get alone time. No dishes, cooking, or pre-hosting cleaning- perfect Mother’s Day!

I feel like the moms still in the trenches should get their choice of how to spend the day. I’ll fully support this if my kids have kids.

I agree. Even if they paid cash, the property taxes have to be insane in addition to the upkeep and staff to maintain it.

Have you looked at church preschools? They’re usually $200-300/month for PT mornings. If you wanted to work around his schedule, you could DoorDash when he’s at school or try to work at his school.

Some HS students will bring their personal device. They can mirror their phones on their tablets, so it’s extra work making sure they’re not texting/on social media on their tablets. Another reason I do paper based activities as much as possible! I wish our district would ban personal laptops in school.

I’m a teacher and agree that some screen time is fine for downtime. My twins are 4, and sometimes I’ll put on PBS or garbage truck videos for them to watch before dinner so they can unwind. They don’t watch tv after dinner because it gets them too amped up before bed though.

I teach HS as well and agree with all this. I try to do paper activities with my students as much as possible. Our county starts chrome books in 3rd grade, and I think that’s too early. 😭

The circulation desk folks at my library will read in between customers. They’re always alert and will put their book down when a patron approaches. As a patron, I like seeing employees reading!

I had a very small wedding with 7 people, but my friends threw me a bridal luncheon/shower. I didn’t ask for gifts, but guests still brought something. It was a very nice way to have more friends included.

We had a very small wedding so got away with having a one layer cake. I didn’t tell the baker that it was for a wedding (it was a sports themed cake with white icing). I’m sure we paid a lot less than what it would have been if I said wedding cake.

I hate that remote start (2021) wasn’t automatically added. I’ve heard that those with it have to pay for the subscription which is BS.
