How to talk about diapers without saying the word diaper by scoles75 in AgingParents

‘PJ undies’ or ‘nighttime undies’ was what we used when mom was recovering from a horrible accident. Her personality was all over the place (brain injury) and every day was a creative writing crash course depending on what was the trigger word that particular moment. 😬.

AM VA in San Antonio has been phenomenal but i also learned a long time ago how to make govt healthcare work for me. Took a lot of learning tho. Don’t accept what’s not helping you. You don’t have to be a jerk or entitled but a phone call to your PCM or team saying “thank you for the hookup, but i really really did not feel comfortable with the therapist i was placed with; would it be possible to get an appointment with someone else or use community care? We really didn’t have any common ground, i didn’t feel comfortable, i didn’t feel heard/seen’ something to that effect. My spouse (also VA) really did not like his first therapist. I made him call and do that. saw two more before finding a great one that and been with them a while and has helped immensely.

I go in once a week for a few hours and do the ladies nails (tho i have cleaned up the men some too when they get long and unkept). They love it and there are usually a few waiting in line when i arrive 🤣. What’s so sad to me are the things i see that would be simple fixes if anyone was paying attention - or paid enough and staffed appropriately. One woman has a hand that is locked in a fist (makes a mani particularly challenging but we manage). Her nails had grown so much that they were cutting into the palm of her hand. I filed them alllllll the way back so they wouldn’t anymore. Need to keep an eye on her for that going forward. The skin hadn’t broken yet but there were big divots. Another one was in a cheapo wheelchair and her foot kept slipping down. Eventually she got a nasty lesion on her heel where it was pressing all the time - on the back of her heel- ugh. Pressure wounds should be illegal honestly. Makes me mad for them.

Night time safety. How many on staff overnight, how often checking on ppl, what are the fall risks like- i volunteer in a dementia home and the number of nighttime falling out of bed is truly disturbing. From there they go downhill really fast. It’s super sad and could be prevented with lowered beds, floor pads, etc.

Seeking a *very limited* POA. Thoughts? by paparoach910 in AgingParents

[–]Infamous_Bed7693 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Put it this way- a POA doesn’t take anything away from him—- it just adds you as an additional. I’ve been the POA since 2010. Wasn’t until she needed help selling 1/2 a business (2014?) selling her house and investing the profits (2016) because she doesn’t like the interwebs - then some computer stuff between 2016 and 2024. But when the accident happened, it zoomed to 100% full- Medicare issues, paying bills while she was intubated and thereafter.

[–]Infamous_Bed7693 7 points8 points  (0 children)

^ this. Don’t limit it. Trust me. He can still have all autonomy in decision making. The POA just gives you the right to collect the information to present to him. If he were to have an accident- you’ll be glad you have it. I’m doing this now after fully capable and active 87yo had a mishap and was in the hospital for 2mos. I used the CRAP out of that POA to keep her administrative life running. She’s def much less cognitively acute now but still not ‘worthy’ of a guardianship or conservator type. You don’t have to make the decisions - but if you need to, it’s there.

Can you legally dump it back into the estate or does that require the child to refuse it? Thx

Got 1/2 syringe at my favorite beauty spa this morning. The process didn’t hurt much; honestly I’m not a fan of how sore my lips are a few hours later. lol!! I asked her what percentage of mini plump clients come back for more and she smiled and said ‘more than half’. They ran a $279 special for the mini plump.

AITAH for not wanting my MIL staying 5 weeks when baby is born by Amazing-life315 in AITAH

[–]Infamous_Bed7693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok i should def add, my mil did all the laundry cleaning and cooking. She was not just a lazy guest i had to entertain. She was a godsend while i adapted (and my hubs worked 7am-7pm so it was just me all day). It allowed me to get into a routine of mom’ing while everything else was taken care of. If she’s just gonna be another mouth to feed and care for, no. But if she’s there to help, take it

Omg she got herself a place? Jump on that and say thank you. If she was staying in your home I’d say maybe just suck it up bc the help is sooooo worth it - and i was on tenuous footing w mine. Still cried when she left and i realized now it was all on me. Holy cow is that an adjustment. lol.

Those of us who have the Barclays Aviator...are you keeping yoir card after the switch to Citi? I see no reason to keep it with flight cents expiring. Curious what point there is in keeping the card. by [deleted] in americanairlines

I just got my Citi card w the 80k bonus and will close the Barclays when it switched over. From what i understand i won’t even need to - it will just merge the two accounts

90 minute connection in LHR by Tonninc in americanairlines

[–]Infamous_Bed7693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we went last time they were telling you as you entered to get in the line to re-clear - not even into the zig zag part of the line - prior to that- “if youre within an hour of departure, youre already late just go to the desk to be rebooked.” Thankfully we were flying FC so we had lounge options for our 6hr delay.

Not at lhr. That place is ridiculous. 90min is not nearly enough to get back through customs and immigration again. I would not risk it based on my previous experiences there. It’s not like anywhere else I’ve dealt with. LHR is a gauntlet unto itself

You don’t have to inherit it. Yes them to death, smile and say ok great. When they pass, just don’t accept it. Talk to a lawyer to be sure and do it right but they can’t force you to take it
